NPP-USA wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the First Lady, H.E. Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, for keeping to her promise by seeing to the establishment of a Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
This lifesaving center, also known as the Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II Center, was a project Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo embarked on after watching Seth Kwame Boateng’s documentary, Next to Die, which depicted the gruesome state of maternal care in our country specifically at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
The documentary did not only depict the sad state of our healthcare system, it also highlighted an attitudinal problem of Ghanaians where resources are left to waste at the expense of precious lives. A maternal unit started many years ago had been left to rot while mothers and their children died.
Our First Lady stood up like every mother should, collaborated with corporate entities and individuals to raise funds and resources to build a facility that will save lives, keep families together and restore the dignity of maternal care at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. The successful completion of this modern center in less than a year truly demonstrates her commitment to women and children in our country.
We are also encouraged by the pledge of her organization, the Rebecca Foundation, to provide the facility with every support to ensure it is well maintained.
NPP-USA is proud of our First Lady and her organization for all the humanitarian work they have done and continue to do throughout Ghana. Her act of kindness has provided the means for mothers to care for themselves and their children in the most dignified way. We can boldly say that she is championing and advancing a vision to heal humanity, particularly, women and children.
May the God Lord bless our First Lady and guide her and the Rebecca Foundation through all their endeavors.
Thank you!
