Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr. Henry Quartey, has announced that his outfit has initiated a pilot project to provide insurance cover for families of police officers who may suffer any damage in line of duty.
The announcement follows the shooting of Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi of the Atomic Hills Police Station at Kwabenya last Sunday.
Police officers in the past have complained about lack of insurance cover to take care of them and their families should the unforeseen happen to them in line of duty.
But addressing officers at the station where the incidence occurred, Mr. Quartey, said the ministry has initiated processes to address those complaints.
He added that the police and other security agencies are on top of their game and are working round the clock to arrest the perpetrators of the crime.
Seven suspected armed robbers were freed when the gunmen attacked the station. The names of the seven were given as Atta Kwadwo, Prince Osei, Dickson Ofori, Chibuzor Akwuba, Edem Rocken and Kofi Darko.
There is currently a manhunt for all seven of them and the attackers.
