Ghana international goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi emerged as the most effective shot-stopper at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico following an outstanding individual campaign.
The St. Gallen goalkeeper topped the tournament’s goals prevented rankings with a score of 2.35, a metric that measures how many goals a goalkeeper prevented based on the quality of shots faced compared to the number of goals conceded.
Ati-Zigi also finished as Ghana’s highest-rated player among those who played at least 100 minutes, earning an average match rating of 7.21.
The 29-year-old featured for just 135 minutes after starting the Black Stars’ opening group-stage match before suffering an injury that ruled him out of Ghana’s second game.
Despite his campaign being cut short, Ati-Zigi’s performances between the posts ranked among Ghana’s standout positives at the tournament.
The Black Stars reached the Round of 32 for the first time since the 2010 FIFA World Cup before their campaign ended with a narrow defeat to Colombia.
With the World Cup now over, Ati-Zigi is expected to turn his attention to Ghana’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group C alongside Ivory Coast, Gambia and Somalia as they seek to secure qualification for the continental tournament.
