The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has emerged winners of the 2026 Civil Service Inter-Ministerial Women’s Football Tournament, adding a sporting highlight to the ministry’s activities during the 2026 Civil Service Week celebration.
The team secured the title after defeating the Ministry of Defence in an exciting encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match was decided by a stunning free-kick goal, with the Gender Ministry side holding their nerve to claim victory and lift the trophy.
The football triumph formed part of a broader week of activities organised to commemorate the 2026 Civil Service Week, which brought together Ministries, Departments and Agencies under the theme, “The Resetting Agenda for Sustainable Development in Ghana: The Civil Service’s Responsibilities.”
The celebration focused on the role of the Civil Service in turning government policies into practical development outcomes, while encouraging professionalism, teamwork, innovation and improved public service.
Beyond the football tournament, the Gender Ministry participated in several activities throughout the week.
Management and staff took part in a clean-up exercise at the ministry’s premises and surrounding areas, highlighting the importance of workplace cleanliness and environmental sanitation.
The ministry also showcased its work at the Civil Service Policy Fair and Exhibition at the Accra Sports Stadium, where members of the public and other participants had the opportunity to learn about its programmes, policies and interventions in gender, children and social protection.
The Chief Director, Dr. Marian W. A. Kpakpah, visited the ministry’s exhibition booth, interacting with staff and reviewing the initiatives and materials on display.
Adding a lighter touch to the celebrations, the ministry joined forces with the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition for the cooking competition, where the teams prepared fufu with goat light soup.
The women’s football victory therefore provided a fitting competitive finish to the ministry’s participation in a week that combined service, teamwork, community engagement and institutional collaboration.
