Members and supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region have held a solidarity vigil in support of the party’s Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.

The supporters, dressed in NPP-branded shirts and waving party flags, gathered at Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign office in Asokwa as preparations were completed for the vigil.

The event is intended to demonstrate solidarity with Wontumi, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence following his conviction in the Samreboi illegal mining case.

The party has maintained its support for Wontumi and indicated that it would pursue the available legal avenues to challenge the conviction and sentence.

The vigil comes amid continued discussions within the party over Wontumi’s imprisonment, with supporters using the gathering to express their loyalty to the Ashanti Regional Chairman.

The atmosphere at the Asokwa venue has been marked by party colours, flags and messages of support as NPP members rally behind their regional chairman.
