Nigerian actor and filmmaker Ramsey Nouah has shared his impressions of Accra and Kumasi, describing the two cities as having distinct lifestyles and social atmospheres.
The veteran actor said he found people in Kumasi to be more down-to-earth and approachable compared with those in Accra.
Ramsey Nouah made the comments during an interview on Angel FM after arriving in Kumasi to feature in an upcoming movie by Ghanaian actor and comedian Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win.
Drawing a comparison between Ghana’s two major cities and Nigeria’s Lagos and Abuja, the actor described Accra as a city associated with wealth and a “big boy” lifestyle, while he likened Kumasi to Lagos, which he characterised as a hub for hustlers and entrepreneurs.
“Accra is more like a place for the big boys, but Kumasi is for hustlers and entrepreneurs. People are more down-to-earth in Kumasi than in Accra,” he said.
He explained that his observation was based on the different lifestyles and attitudes he had encountered in the two cities.
“Lagos is the hustlers’ place. Abuja is the people that are eating and enjoying the big money, and they act like they are the big boys. Lagos are more like the entrepreneurs. It feels like the same thing here,” he said.
Ramsey Nouah further cited an interaction during his interview as an example of what he perceived to be the difference between the two cities.
He noted that the interviewer’s suggestion to take one of their colleagues out for fufu reflected what he considered to be Kumasi’s more down-to-earth character.
“You want to take my sister to eat fufu; now in Accra they won’t take her to eat fufu, they’ll take her to an expensive place like La Chaumière,” he said.
Ramsey Nouah is currently in Kumasi to feature in Kwadwo Nkansah Lil Win’s upcoming movie.
