Ghanaian dancehall artiste Stonebwoy has pushed back against the perception that Ghanaian men are stingy, arguing that their spending habits are largely influenced by careful financial calculations.
The musician made the remarks during an appearance on Madam Joyce’s Cocktails and Takeaways podcast, where he discussed stereotypes surrounding Ghanaian men and their approach to spending on women.
Stonebwoy said the widely held perception that Ghanaian men are unwilling to spend should instead be understood as a reflection of their ability to assess their financial situation before committing to expenses.
“Ghana boys are not stingy, we have seen the narrative you guys have been putting out there, now if you go on Google, it’s registered,” he said.
According to the artiste, some men are labelled stingy because they are unable to meet financial demands that exceed what they can afford.
“I think to be very honest, ladies of today want men to spend weytin them no have,” he said.
Stonebwoy advised men to be realistic about their financial capacity and avoid making promises they cannot fulfil.
He also encouraged men who genuinely want to treat their partners or loved ones to honour commitments they voluntarily make, while being prepared to accept the financial consequences.
The dancehall artiste compared the spending habits of Ghanaian and Nigerian men, suggesting that Nigerian men are generally more willing to take financial risks when spending on women.
He, however, stressed that the decision to spend money on a partner ultimately depends on an individual’s priorities, financial capacity and willingness to bear the consequences of such choices.
