The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Krachi West in the Oti Region, Prosper Addo, has cautioned caretakers of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) against treating resources allocated to beneficiaries as personal property, urging them to manage such support with integrity and accountability.
He gave the caution at a donation ceremony where 72 PWDs in the municipality received items and financial assistance aimed at improving their livelihoods and promoting self-reliance.
The support package included refrigerators, fufu pounding machines, industrial sewing machines, hair dryers, cassava grinding machines, a baking oven, agrochemicals, as well as cash to support beneficiaries in their respective trades and daily needs.

According to Prosper Addo, the donations form part of efforts to enhance the living conditions of PWDs and ensure they are given the opportunities and tools needed to thrive.
He stressed that the assistance was carefully provided to meet specific needs and should be used strictly for its intended purpose.
“These donations are not just items; they represent hope and support for our PWDs,” the MCE stated.
“It is crucial for caretakers to understand their role in safeguarding these resources and ensuring they are used for their intended purpose. Misappropriation of these items undermines the very essence of government efforts to uplift the lives of PWDs.”

Prosper Addo expressed concern that some items meant for PWDs could be diverted or misused by caretakers, a situation he warned could defeat the purpose of the intervention and deny vulnerable beneficiaries the full benefit of the support.
He therefore appealed for transparency and responsible oversight from families and guardians to help sustain the impact of the initiative.

On their part, the Chairperson of the federation, Christiana Alegi Addai, and several beneficiaries commended the government for the support, describing it as timely and practical.
They noted that the items and cash assistance would contribute significantly to improving livelihoods, expanding small businesses, and strengthening independence among PWDs.
