The Paramount Chief of the Kenyasi No. 1 Traditional Council in the Ahafo Region, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, has donated GH¢80,000 to the Asutifi North District Hospital to support the operationalisation of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system aimed at improving healthcare delivery.
Presenting the cheque to the management of the hospital, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri noted that the continued use of paper folders for patient records in this digital age is outdated and poses numerous challenges for both healthcare workers and patients.
According to him, the donation will be used to procure computers and other necessary equipment to facilitate the implementation of the Electronic Medical Records system, which has become a standard practice in many health facilities across the country.
He stressed that government alone cannot address all the challenges confronting healthcare institutions and assured the hospital of the traditional council’s continuous support to enhance quality healthcare services for residents of the Asutifi North District and beyond.
The Paramount Chief further stated that the traditional council would closely monitor the utilisation of the funds to ensure they are used for their intended purpose.
“We will continue to support the hospital whenever the need arises, but we also want to ensure that this money is used solely for the implementation of the electronic medical records system to improve healthcare delivery,” he said.
Receiving the cheque on behalf of the hospital, the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Obed Benyin-Mensah, expressed appreciation to Nana Osei Kofi Abiri and the Kenyasi No. 1 Traditional Council for the generous support.
Speaking to Adom News, Dr. Benyin-Mensah said the transition from paper-based records to an electronic system would significantly improve efficiency and protect patient confidentiality.
He explained that the use of paper folders often leads to delays in retrieving patient information, misplaced records, and breaches of privacy, among other challenges.
According to him, the introduction of the Electronic Medical Records system will streamline operations, improve record management, and ultimately enhance the quality of healthcare services provided at the facility.
Dr. Benyin-Mensah described the donation as timely and laudable, adding that it would go a long way in modernising healthcare delivery at the hospital.
