The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has opened applications for the recruitment of 400 revenue collectors as part of efforts to strengthen revenue mobilisation and support the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
The recruitment exercise is expected to create job opportunities while enhancing the Assembly’s capacity to improve internally generated revenue and support development projects across the capital.
Announcing the initiative, the Mayor of Accra, Michael Kpakpo Allotey, said successful applicants would be deployed to various sub-metropolitan areas, markets, transport terminals, business districts and other approved revenue collection points within the metropolis.
According to him, the exercise forms part of measures aimed at blocking revenue leakages and promoting a more transparent, accountable and efficient revenue collection system.
He noted that improved revenue mobilisation is essential for the delivery of critical services such as sanitation management, road maintenance, drainage construction, street lighting, market development and public health interventions.
Mr Allotey explained that Accra plays a key role in the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy policy due to its concentration of commercial centres, markets, hospitality facilities, transport services and other economic activities that operate beyond traditional working hours.
He said a stronger revenue collection system would help provide resources to improve urban infrastructure, support businesses and create an enabling environment for sustained economic activity.
The Mayor further disclosed that selected applicants would undergo training in revenue collection procedures, digital payment systems, customer relations, accountability, reporting mechanisms and ethical conduct before deployment.
He also urged residents and business operators to report any unauthorised persons attempting to collect money on behalf of the Assembly.
The recruitment is expected to contribute to job creation while enhancing the Assembly’s efforts to improve service delivery and accelerate development within the Accra metropolis.
