Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has expressed satisfaction with his team’s discipline and tactical understanding, insisting Ghana are on an upward trajectory as preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup continue.
Ghana were held to a 1-1 draw against Wales on Tuesday night at the Cardiff City Stadium in a friendly that forms part of their final phase of preparation for the global showpiece.
Speaking after the match, Queiroz highlighted the players’ responsiveness to his instructions as a key positive, despite the result not going their way.
“What really pleased me a lot is the way the players listened to my instruction; my game plan; they were very respectful,” Queiroz said.
The Portuguese coach remains confident that continued work on his tactical approach will yield improvements as the squad builds cohesion ahead of the tournament.
Ghana will conclude their pre-World Cup preparations with a final friendly against Jamaica on June 10, a fixture expected to serve as the last major test before the tournament kicks off.
At the World Cup, the Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. They begin their campaign against Panama at BMO Field on June 17, before facing England six days later and wrapping up their group fixtures against Croatia on June 27.
The four-time African champions will be aiming to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run in 2010, having suffered early exits in recent editions of the tournament.
