The Accident and Emergency Centre of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has resumed the admission of new cases following a temporary congestion that affected operations at the facility.

Management says the congestion situation at the centre has improved significantly, allowing emergency services to return to normal operations.

A coordinated intervention involving the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate and leadership of health facilities across the region was implemented to redistribute cases and ease pressure on the hospital.

Under the arrangement, patients were redirected to other health facilities within the region to ensure uninterrupted emergency care and prevent overloading of the centre.

The development comes after a brief disruption that raised concerns about patient flow and emergency response capacity at the hospital.

The situation has since been brought under control with collaboration from partner facilities and health authorities in the region.

The easing of congestion has restored full admission services at the Accident and Emergency Centre, allowing the facility to continue providing emergency healthcare services to patients.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene noted that the incident underscores the importance of ongoing government efforts to expand healthcare infrastructure and strengthen referral systems in the Ashanti Region.

He referenced key ongoing projects, including the resumption of work on the KNUST Medical Centre with over GHS 400 million in GETFund support, as well as the construction of a Cath Lab facility at KATH aimed at improving specialised care.

He also mentioned planned updates on the Sewua Regional Hospital, Afari Military Hospital, and other key health infrastructure projects, which are expected to further reduce pressure on major health facilities.
