President John Dramani Mahama has called on global investors to change their perception of Africa, stressing that the continent should be viewed as a major investment opportunity rather than a risk.
Speaking at the 12th edition of the Africa Debate in London on Wednesday, June 3, President Mahama described Africa as the next frontier for global growth, innovation and long-term value creation.
He urged investors to look beyond traditional narratives of uncertainty and instead focus on the continent’s growing economic potential, youthful population, rapid urbanisation and expanding consumer markets.
“To the investors gathered here today, Africa is not a risk to be managed. Africa is an opportunity to be seized,” President Mahama stated.
According to him, the future of global economic growth will increasingly be shaped by emerging regions, with Africa playing a central role due to its untapped productive capacity and expanding population.
“The next phase of global growth will not be driven solely by mature economies. Emerging regions will increasingly shape it as populations expand, urbanisation grows, consumption rises, and untapped productive capacity is realised, and Africa represents that frontier,” he said.
The President’s remarks formed part of a broader investment and diplomatic visit to the United Kingdom, during which he engaged British officials, met members of the Ghanaian community and participated in a series of business forums aimed at strengthening economic partnerships.
The visit is expected to deepen investor confidence in Africa and promote stronger economic ties between Ghana, the United Kingdom and the wider international business community.
