Manager of the “Terrenger Lions” of Senegal, Aliou Cisse says he is very happy with his sides performance in Russia irrespective of their elimination from the World Cup Thursday June 28, 2018.

Senegal lost 1-0 to Colombia in their final group game and could not be part of the last sixteen following new FIFA rules on fair play.

Japan who was also on 4 points as the African side qualified ahead of the Senegalese for accumulating fewer cards in all three group games but the only African manager at the tournament says he is still proud of his boys.

“It’s the law of football. We didn’t qualify because we’ve earned more yellow cards, but I’m proud of my lads, they’ve worked hard for this tournament and I think we’ve showed we can have a bright future,” Cisse said.

“I think the players knew all about it. I’m not going to ask my players to go on the pitch and try to avoid being issued yellow cards. Football is a contact game.”

Senegal will down in history as the first nation to be eliminated in a FIFA world Cup competition on the basis of the new fair play rule.
