Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has voiced concern over the potential absence of Mohammed Kudus from Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, warning that it could significantly affect the team’s attacking strength.

The 25-year-old midfielder is currently recovering from an injury that may rule him out of the tournament in North America, raising uncertainty over his availability for the Black Stars’ campaign.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, Gyan described Kudus as a key figure in Ghana’s setup, highlighting his creativity, vision, and intelligence in the final third as qualities that set him apart.

He noted that Kudus’ influence in attack is not easily replaceable and said his absence would be strongly felt if he fails to recover in time for the tournament.

Despite his concerns, Gyan urged Ghana’s technical team to act swiftly by identifying tactical alternatives and strengthening squad depth to ensure the team remains competitive at the global stage.

The country’s all-time leading scorer at the World Cup added that while Kudus’ injury is unfortunate, Ghana must remain focused and adapt strategically ahead of matches against Mexico and other high-profile opponents.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. The Black Stars—set for their fifth World Cup appearance—will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
