Inspector Hance Atubra of the Tarkwa Divisional Police Headquarters has been promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector for his bravery and role in saving lives during a fire outbreak at Aboso in the Western Region.
The promotion was approved by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, following Inspector Atubra’s courageous intervention during the incident on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
The fire, which broke out at the Aboso Main Lorry Station, engulfed several shops and caused significant damage to property.
Inspector Atubra, who was the first police officer to arrive at the scene, immediately took action to assist persons who were trapped within the affected area.
He helped evacuate victims from the danger zone to safety while efforts were being made to contain the fire and prevent further loss of life and property.
His swift response and bravery were reportedly commended by eyewitnesses who witnessed the incident and saw him risk his safety to assist those in danger.
Following the incident, his actions were brought to the attention of the Police Administration, resulting in a recommendation for his promotion in recognition of his courage, quick response and commitment to protecting lives and property.
The Police Administration has described the promotion as a recognition of the values demonstrated by Inspector Atubra in the line of duty.
The elevation to Chief Inspector, according to the Police Administration, underscores its commitment to rewarding officers who distinguish themselves through exceptional courage, dedication and professionalism.
The incident has also highlighted the important role of police officers in emergency situations, particularly when their immediate intervention can make a difference in protecting lives and preventing further destruction.
