The Ahafo Wangara Association and Education Fund has been launched in Goaso to support the educational development of young people within the Wangara community in the Ahafo Region.
The initiative, launched under the theme “Showcasing Culture, Supporting Education and Inspiring the Future,” seeks to mobilise financial and other forms of support from individuals, businesses and organisations to assist Wangara youth in their education.
Speaking at the launch, the President of the Council of Wangara Chiefs in Ghana, Masaba Yussif Fanyinamah III, said the association would work to create better educational opportunities for young people in the community.
He explained that the fund would provide assistance to deserving students while helping to improve their prospects for the future.
Masaba Yussif Fanyinamah III also disclosed that the association would organise cultural programmes and other activities aimed at preserving and promoting Wangara traditions.
He said such programmes would particularly target young people, including students, to help them understand, appreciate and preserve their cultural heritage.
The Chairman of the Ahafo Wangara Association, Ali Baba Mohammed, described the initiative as timely, citing concerns about the educational performance of Wangara youth in the region.
Speaking to Adom News, he called on parents to take a greater interest in the education of their children and provide the necessary support to enable them to succeed.
The Paramount Queen Mother of Goaso, Nana Afia Serwaa, also encouraged the association to make the celebration of Wangara culture an annual event.
She said regular cultural celebrations would give the younger generation an opportunity to learn about their heritage and develop pride in their identity.
Nana Afia Serwaa further suggested that the annual celebrations could also be used as an avenue to raise funds to support the education of needy Wangara youth.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North, Joseph Akparibo, who spoke on behalf of the Ahafo Regional Minister, Members of Parliament and other Municipal and District Chief Executives, commended the Wangara community for the initiative.
He assured the association of government’s support as it works towards achieving its educational and cultural objectives.
