Entertainment analyst and artiste manager Lawrence Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bulldog, has praised dancehall musician Stonebwoy for his relentless efforts to promote Ghanaian music and culture on the international stage.
According to Bulldog, Stonebwoy’s commitment to expanding the Ghanaian music brand globally is unmatched, describing his efforts as one of the most significant contributions by a Ghanaian artiste in recent times.
Speaking in an interview shared on social media, Bulldog said Stonebwoy’s international exploits reminded him of the pioneering impact of legendary Ghanaian music group Osibisa.
He specifically highlighted Stonebwoy’s recent concert at the OVO Arena Wembley in London, describing it as a major milestone for the artiste and Ghanaian music.
Bulldog said the significance of the performance went beyond the size of the audience, arguing that the decision to secure such a prestigious venue and successfully stage a concert there deserved recognition.
“Since the inception of Ghanaian music, no artist has worked harder than Stonebwoy in promoting and pushing the Ghanaian brand. You see what Stonebwoy did in the UK, very few artistes have done. Stonebwoy had a show at OVO Wembley Arena. Even if no one came, I would salute him,” he said.
He praised Stonebwoy for taking the bold step of booking the venue, travelling with a full team and delivering a major production.
According to him, such a move demonstrated ambition, courage and leadership, qualities he believes are important in taking Ghanaian music to new international markets.
Bulldog, however, acknowledged the contributions of other leading Ghanaian artistes and stressed that praising Stonebwoy should not be seen as an attempt to undermine their achievements.
Addressing comparisons with Shatta Wale, he said the accomplishments of both artistes should be assessed on their individual merits.
“I will not diminish Shatta Wale’s impact; if I do, I would diminish my own impact… But this is not about Shatta. His mandate was to host a show at that arena to prove that he could do it,” he said.
Bulldog maintained that Stonebwoy’s performance at the OVO Arena Wembley should be recognised as a significant achievement in his career and part of his wider contribution to projecting Ghanaian music internationally.
