General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has disclosed he will gladly accept if he is considered as the running mate for the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama in the 2020 general election.
“There is no race for a running mate and there will never be one but I will gladly accept if I am considered as the running mate for the flagbearer,” he said.
According to General Mosquito as he is popularly known in political circles, though he will not reject it, he is not obliged to lobby for the position because he sees it to be an offering to the person deemed fit.
Speaking in an interview on Joy News’ Pulse programme, Mr Nketia was of the view that the flagbearer is the right person who has all party human resources available to him in choosing the running mate.
“It is not something I hope for because you cannot hope for something when it will not be given to you. You can only hope for a seat you are contesting for but if I am deemed fit to perform that role I will accept it because I have never rejected any role imposed on me,” he said.
He added that “I have rejected only two appointments which were ministerial appointments under the Mills and Mahama administrations.”
