Comic actor Funny Face has once again turned a deeply personal chapter of his life into comedy, sharing a humorous recollection of his time in psychiatric care.
Speaking in an interview on Joy Prime, Funny Face recounted his experiences at different facilities, including the psychiatric unit at Korle Bu, as well as Pantang Hospital, where he stayed during his mental health treatment.
Due to his celebrity status, he became a familiar face in the wards and one that many patients would approach during moments of boredom.
According to him, some of the moments that stood out involved conversations with other patients, whom he jokingly described as offering him “advice,” despite their own mental health challenges.
He narrated that at times, he engaged patients in conversations in a way that made them trust him, even as they expressed unusual thoughts and ideas.
“Imagine someone who is crazier than you coming to advise you. I had a friend in there, and after hearing my story, he told me my situation is even worse. Imagine someone who has spent seven years in a psychiatric ward advising me and feeling pity for my condition.”
He added humor to his account by reflecting on how he navigated the environment, saying he often had to act in ways that made others feel understood in order to gain their trust.
“In my quest to make them feel I understand them, I also indulged them. And the nurses would be watching us, marking me that my situation was not getting better. We ate imaginary food on the floor and had weird conversations that made no sense.”
His remarks were part of his reflections on his mental health journey and recovery, which he has occasionally spoken about publicly to raise awareness and share personal experiences.
