The Deputy Chief Imam at Mehame, Nuhu Ahmed, has called on Imams across the Ahafo Region to intensify efforts to combat drug abuse among the youth, describing the situation as alarming.
He made the call during a graduation ceremony held in Mim where 19 persons from across the region graduated as Imams.
Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Ahmed expressed concern over the growing rate of drug abuse among young people in the region, warning that the trend poses a serious threat to society.
According to him, the newly graduated imams must introduce fresh ideas and strategies to help address the menace and safeguard the future of the region.
“The rate at which the youth are abusing drugs is alarming and poses a serious threat, therefore the graduated Imams must come with fresh ideas and measures to help fight it effectively,” he stated.
He further noted that drug abuse remains a major challenge within zongo communities in the region and urged the imams to prioritise education and awareness creation in tackling the problem.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Mosi in Mehame, Naaba Abdulai Mohammed, together with the Municipal Chief Executive for Asunafo North Municipality, Joseph Akparibo, appealed to the youth in Muslim communities to remain disciplined and help change negative perceptions associated with zongo communities.
According to them, the frequent association of zongo communities with violence and riots must come to an end.
They also highlighted the cordial relationship between Muslims and Christians in the region, describing it as a positive sign for peace and development.
