The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed satisfaction with the High Court’s decision to grant bail to its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe Abronye, following his arrest and detention.

The Accra High Court on Thursday granted Abronye bail in the sum of GH¢100,000 with two sureties. As part of the conditions, his travel documents were seized.

Speaking after the ruling, NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua said although the party disagrees with the circumstances surrounding Abronye’s arrest and detention, it is pleased with the court’s decision on bail.

“We are happy that justice has been served,” he said, adding that the outcome aligns with the party’s consistent position on the matter.

Mr. Kodua explained that although the NPP disagreed with how the case began, the party respects the court’s decision and is satisfied with the bail conditions granted.

He noted that the Attorney General did not oppose the bail application when it was moved in court on Thursday, questioning why that position was not taken during the proceedings on Wednesday.

“The counsel for Kwame Baffoe Abronye moved the application and the Attorney General did not oppose it… why didn’t they do it yesterday?” he stated.

He maintained that the defence team is satisfied with the outcome, describing the conditions attached to the bail as manageable.

“The court has granted the bail application subject to some conditions, which should not be a problem for the accused,” he said.

He further insisted that the case should not have escalated to its current stage, describing it as a misdemeanour that should not have attracted such strict processes at the lower court.

“We have been very consistent from day one that this is a case of misdemeanour, which bail should not have been an issue at all at the circuit court,” he noted.

He added that the legal team is considering further action regarding the earlier proceedings, including a possible petition to the Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, over aspects of the trial process.
