Minister-designate for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, has reiterated government’s commitment to improve accommodation for the Ghana Police Service and all other security services across the country with the introduction of the National Barracks Regeneration Programme.

According to the former Deputy Minority Leader, one option to bring the programme to fore is to partner the public sector, but be mindful of ensuring value for money.

Addressing the Appointments Committee in Accra on Saturday January 21, Mr Dery said housing for security personnel “is one of the priority areas” of the government.

“We have stated in our manifesto that there will be a National Barracks Regeneration Programme and a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement is one of the options. …The investment could come through the PPP arrangements but we will do that with the consciousness for value for money and ensure that the country gets the best deal when it comes to this,” he stated.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) during its campaign promised to introduce policies to ease the lives of members of the security services to better perform their duties.
