A 10-room-self-contained flat at Obuasi-Akaporiso in the Ashanti region has been razed down by raging fire.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known. No casualties were recorded.

According to the landlord, Elder Fosu Poku, the fire extended from a nearby building while they were still in bed after a watch night service, Saturday morning.

“I went to the market with my wife before I went to bed after the church service but around 10:am while I was asleep in the hall, my son came screaming the house was on fire,” he said in an interview with Adom News.

Confirming the incident, the Obuasi Municipal Fire Commander, ADO Oscar Opoku, said the extent of destruction was beyond them and they had to call for assistance from other fire stations.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Management Organisation Coordinator, Gado Tahiru and his team, whose timely intervention brought the situation under control, has pledged to assist those affected.

“I will commend the residents for this assistance during the outbreak and the quick response of the fire service but the flat cannot be maintained because the fire was intense and is likely to weaken the structure, so it must be pulled down. But, moving forward, I will discuss with the Member of Parliament and District Chief Executive to find out what help we can offer.” he said.
