The meeting, held on May Day, gave Boakye Agyarko the opportunity to commend Dr Bawumia for what he described as his dedicated service to both the NPP and Ghana.

Discussions also centred on the future of the party and preparations toward the 2028 general elections.

During the engagement, Boakye Agyarko, accompanied by members of his campaign team, formally informed Dr Bawumia of his intention to embark on a nationwide tour in pursuit of his National Chairman ambition.

He also reaffirmed his support for the former Vice President and stressed the need for unity within the party to secure victory in the 2028 polls.

As part of his campaign activities, Boakye Agyarko is expected to begin his nationwide tour in the Ashanti Region next week, where he is anticipated to engage party executives, grassroots supporters and stakeholders on his vision for the NPP.

Disqualified Atiwa East NPP members seek forgiveness, appeal for reinstatement ahead of 2028 https://www.adomonline.com/disqualified-atiwa-east-npp-members-seek-forgiveness-appeal-for-reinstatement-ahead-of-2028/ Fri, 01 May 2026 11:42:56 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657685 Some disqualified members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Atiwa East Constituency of the Eastern Region are appealing to the party’s leadership to reconsider their status and reinstate them as delegates ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The appeal comes as the party continues its vetting process for members seeking to occupy various constituency-level positions.

In Atiwa East, about 26 members were disqualified after it was established that they had supported an independent candidate in previous elections—an action deemed to be in violation of party regulations.

However, the affected individuals say they are remorseful and are pleading for forgiveness in the interest of unity and progress within the party.

One of the disqualified members, speaking on behalf of the group, appealed to Mahamudu Bawumia and the party’s national executives to consider their plea and allow them back into the party’s fold.

According to them, bringing all members on board will strengthen the party’s grassroots support and enhance its chances of securing victory in the 2028 elections.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Vetting Committee in the constituency, Perry Appiah, indicated that the vetting process has so far been smooth, with strong support from the Member of Parliament and local party executives.

He noted that the committee has not encountered major challenges in carrying out its mandate.

The development is ongoing efforts within the party to strike a balance between enforcing discipline and fostering reconciliation as it prepares for future political activities.

BoG GHS15.6bn loss: Yesterday’s whistleblowers have become today’s defenders – Oppong Nkrumah https://www.adomonline.com/bog-ghs15-6bn-loss-yesterdays-whistleblowers-have-become-todays-defenders-oppong-nkrumah/ Fri, 01 May 2026 08:17:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657625 Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi and former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has criticised the government’s handling of the Bank of Ghana’s financial performance, accusing the current administration of abandoning principles it once championed in opposition.

His comments come on the back of expectations that the Bank of Ghana will announce a loss of about GHS15.6 billion for the 2025 financial year.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Topstory, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah argued that the justification being offered by the majority that the losses are the result of measures to stabilise the economy and bring relief to Ghanaians, mirrors arguments they previously rejected when they were not in power.

According to him, the shift in posture exposes what he describes as inconsistency in governance.
“Yesterday’s whistleblowers have become today’s defenders. The cosmetics with which they’ve been managing things are beginning to wear off. And what is left now is government side that is defending the things that they complained about when they were in opposition,” he stated.

The debate over the central bank’s financial position has intensified in recent days, with the majority maintaining that the losses are a necessary cost of macroeconomic stabilisation efforts, particularly in the wake of recent economic challenges.

However, critics insist that the development raises questions about transparency, fiscal discipline, and accountability in the management of the country’s finances.

The anticipated announcement by the Bank of Ghana is expected to further fuel discussions on the broader state of the economy and the effectiveness of ongoing policy interventions.

Sabotage won’t get me sacked – Ejisu MCE asserts after attack on her https://www.adomonline.com/sabotage-wont-get-me-sacked-ejisu-mce-asserts-after-attack-on-her/ Thu, 30 Apr 2026 18:32:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657496 Ejisu Municipal Chief Executive, Jerryne Asante, says sabotage and attacks against her will not lead to her removal from office by President John Dramani Mahama.

Her comment follows a recent violent incident at the Ejisu Municipal Assembly office, which she says occurred after she halted the alleged illegal sale of state land reportedly involving some Ejisu NDC executives.

Speaking on Nhyira FM’s ‘Kro Yi Nsem’ show on Thursday, April 30, Ms. Asante defended her decision to stop what she described as an attempted illegal takeover of state property by party executives, including Regional Women’s Organiser Gloria Huze.

“As MCE, it is my duty to ensure that all state properties under my jurisdiction are protected, as mandated,” she told the host, Barima Kofi Dawson-Akokoa.

She added that she will not allow anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to take the law into their own hands or seize government property.

Jerryne Asante described the attack as an act of sabotage intended to pressure the Presidency into dismissing her.

She insisted she will not be removed from office over the incident, as long as she continues to uphold the government’s “Resetting Agenda” and ensures proper governance practices.

“I am acting in line with the government’s agenda. I will not be sacked over this,” she stated.

She further cautioned some Ejisu NDC executives, warning that their actions could damage the party’s reputation and bring embarrassment to the government if not checked.

“Some Ejisu NDC executives justify their actions by claiming NPP executives also took over state land and warehouses when they were in power. But this is what the NPP did, and it led them into opposition. We must not repeat it,” she said.

The Ejisu MCE also dismissed claims that her recent hospital admission was linked to the alleged attack at her office.

While confirming she has been admitted, she clarified that her condition is not related to the incident.

“I have been admitted to hospital, but it is not related to the attack,” she added.

Gov’t behind Angel Maxine, represented by NDC lawyer – John Ntim Fordjour https://www.adomonline.com/govt-behind-angel-maxine-represented-by-ndc-lawyer-john-ntim-fordjour/ Thu, 30 Apr 2026 11:21:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657267 Member of Parliament for Assin South, John Ntim Fordjour, has alleged that elements within government are backing activist Angel Maxine in the ongoing controversy surrounding Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ bill.

Speaking in an interview on Star FM Ghana, he claimed that the activist is being represented by Oliver Barker-Vormawor, whom he described as “a known NDC lawyer” with ties to government.

“I don’t want to glorify him because he’s just a tip of the iceberg. The bigger people who are behind him and doing all these things, the government machinery, and I have all, and I have cause to believe so. When my lawyers wrote to him to retract what he wrote back, represented by a known lawyer, a lawyer that is a known NDC member, a lawyer that is visibly a key member of the government’s delegation to the recent United Nations General Assembly that forcefully sponsored the resolution of the passage of the reparation resolution. We saw the more key parts of that delegation, key part of government delegation that represented Ghana, the government, at UN in the full company of the president,” he said.

He further linked the situation to Ghana’s participation at the United Nations General Assembly, suggesting that developments following the trip influenced the government’s stance on LGBTQ+ issues.

“And you remember it was just this UN trip which returned brought about the government’s sudden U-turn on LGBT matters. And so there’s a lot. That is your suspicion. There’s no suspicion. I mean, it is clear. When Angel Maxine started going on his madness on this matter, it was Jubilee House presidential staffers who started promoting this matter. How many sponsors are championing the bill? Ten. So why didn’t they attack everybody championing the bill? Why did they single out one person? Why did they single out the pastor among them? Why did they single out the NPP among them? Because an NDC lawyer is the one defending NDC key member of government delegation and is visibly accompanying President Mahama at the UN General Assembly.”

The lawmaker questioned why only certain individuals backing the bill were targeted, arguing that political motivations may be at play.

“And these are the agencies that support these things. So is it a coincidence that they go for United Nations General Assembly?”

He also criticised what he described as a shift in government priorities after the UN engagement.

“And right from that General Assembly that he was visibly accompanying the president, they come back. The president holds an engagement with CSOs and says that the LGBT matter that has been on the front burner for years now, which became his major campaign message in the run-up to the election, is no longer a priority because of basic needs—basic needs that did not arise yesterday, basic needs which were not absent at the time he promised in opposition that this bill was a priority and was going to pass it, suddenly taking a U-turn from the bill. Is it a coincidence?”

NDC’s prudent economic management shields Ghana from global shocks – Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/ndcs-prudent-economic-management-shields-ghana-from-global-shocks-asiedu-nketia/ Thu, 30 Apr 2026 06:47:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2657137 Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says prudent economic management by the government has helped shield Ghanaians from severe hardship despite rising global pressures.

He said measures introduced within the government’s first year in office had stabilised the economy and reduced the impact of external shocks, particularly those linked to heightened global tensions.

Mr Nketia made the remarks during the party’s thank-you tour of the Upper East Region.

He, however, warned that ongoing tensions in the Middle East could negatively affect Ghana’s economy if they persist, especially through rising global oil prices.

Mr Asiedu Nketia expressed optimism that sound economic policies implemented by President John Dramani Mahama had helped stabilise the local currency and cushion the effects of external shocks.

“If this war does not stop and prolongs, we may get to a point where our gains will be eroded, but because of the prudent measures taken within this first year, we are able to manage the situation,” he said.

He explained that although crude oil prices on the international market had increased significantly, the relative stability of the Ghana cedi against the US dollar had prevented a sharp rise in domestic fuel prices.

According to him, if the cedi had remained weak at around GH¢17 to the dollar, as he claimed the previous administration left it, Ghanaians would have been paying far more for fuel.

“If the dollar were still around GH¢17 and you multiply it by the current international oil price of about $100, we would not be able to breathe. Fuel prices would have been extremely high,” he stated.

He added that the government’s success in stabilising the exchange rate had helped moderate the effect of global price hikes, making fuel costs more manageable for citizens.

Mr Asiedu Nketia further revealed that the government had been compelled to suspend a planned GH¢1 fuel levy intended to help clear energy-sector debts because of current global economic pressures.

He warned that suspending the levy could lead to continued accumulation of energy-sector debts, but stressed that the decision was necessary to ease the burden on Ghanaians.

“We had to suspend the levy because of the high prices. That means the debt will continue to accumulate, but we cannot allow the burden on the people to worsen,” he explained.

The NDC Chairman called on Ghanaians to remain hopeful and prayerful, urging a resolution to global conflicts to help stabilise economies worldwide and sustain Ghana’s recovery efforts.

He emphasised that continued prudent management of the economy would be key to protecting the gains made so far and ensuring long-term stability.

She was in her car – A/R NDC Women’s Organiser denies attack on Ejisu MCE [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/she-was-in-her-car-a-r-ndc-womens-organiser-denies-attack-on-ejisu-mce-audio/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 15:39:21 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656935 Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser, Gloria Korshior Huze, has rejected allegations that she and other constituency executives attacked the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu, describing the claims as false and misleading.

Her comments come after the Jerryne Asante alleged that she was attacked on Monday, April 27, 2026, by some constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (National Democratic Congress), following tensions over a warehouse issue at the Ejisu Municipal Assembly.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Huze insisted that there is “no truth” in the allegations and insisted the situation has been misrepresented.

“The truth is just one, whatever she is claiming, there is no truth in it,” she said.

She explained that the controversy relates to a Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) warehouse in Ejisu, where some party executives allegedly moved sacks that were going waste in order to clear the facility for storage purposes.

According to her, the executives cleaned the warehouse and later intended to use parts of it for development-related items, including youth employment and school feeding materials.

“We realised there were sacks going waste, so some executives went there to clean the place and move them out. We were only trying to make the place usable,” she explained.

Madam Huze further claimed that the MCE was aware of the arrangement, stating that the warehouse has multiple compartments.

“She knew about it because the warehouse has five sections. When we were cleaning, she insisted she wanted part of it for youth employment and school feeding items, so she was allocated two portions, while we took three,” she said.

She added that tensions began when she was informed that the MCE had allegedly brought police officers to lock up the warehouse.

“I drove there to confirm. When I arrived, I checked our portions and everything was intact,” she stated.

According to her, the situation escalated when officials later told her to vacate the premises.

“They said the Assembly was taking over the warehouse and that I should remove the items. I told them the items are government property and I would not allow them to be taken out. That is how the misunderstanding started,” she explained.

Madam Huze stressed that she did not directly confront the MCE during the incident.

“I was not even confronting the MCE. I was speaking with the former constituency chairman, Yaw Agyarko. She was in her car at the time,” she clarified.

She insisted that claims of an attack on the MCE are inaccurate.

“I was surprised when I heard I had attacked her. She was not even part of the confrontation. It was an argument with others, not her,” she added.

The incident has since sparked tension in Ejisu, with reports indicating that the dispute centers on control and use of the COCOBOD warehouse within the municipality.

She has fought all party executives – Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser fires back at Ejisu MCE [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/she-has-fought-all-party-executives-ashanti-regional-ndc-womens-organiser-fires-back-at-ejisu-mce-audio/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 14:48:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656946 Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser and School Feeding Programme Coordinator, Gloria Korshior Huze, has accused the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu of harassment and unfair treatment, following tensions linked to a disputed warehouse at the Ejisu Municipal Assembly.

Her comments come after the MCE, Jerryne Asante was reportedly involved in a confrontation on Monday, April 27, 2026, over allegations surrounding a warehouse break-in involving some constituency executives of the National Democratic Congress (National Democratic Congress).

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Huze insisted she had reported the MCE’s conduct to the police, describing her actions as “not good.”

“I told the police that the way the MCE is behaving is not good,” she said.

She alleged that since assuming office, the MCE has had repeated clashes with party executives in the constituency.

“Since she became MCE, she has fought with all party executives, including me, the regional women’s organiser in your constituency,” she stated.

Madam Huze further stressed her long-standing political involvement in Ejisu, stressing that she is not a minor figure in the constituency.

“I have been former constituency women’s organiser, parliamentary candidate here in Ejisu, and I served as women’s organiser from 2000 to 2014. So I am not a small person in Ejisu to be treated like this,” she said.

She also alleged that the MCE previously demolished a wall she had built on her plot of land near the railway area for her business.

“I had a plot at the railway, and I built a wall around it to do oil business. The MCE came to destroy the wall and demolished it,” she claimed.

According to her, even after rebuilding the structure, it was allegedly destroyed again.

“I did the wall again, and she still came back to destroy it. So I told the police that she is doing all that because of her personal interest,” she added.

The controversy comes after a viral video showed a heated exchange between alleged NDC executives and police officers inside the MCE’s office.

Madam Huze, who also serves as Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, was seen in the video during the confrontation.

The incident has heightened tensions in Ejisu, with conflicting accounts emerging over the cause of the dispute involving the warehouse and municipal authorities.

You’ve no authority over stool lands – Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser blasts Ejisu MCE [Listen] https://www.adomonline.com/youve-no-authority-over-stool-lands-ashanti-regional-ndc-womens-organiser-blasts-ejisu-mce-listen/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 14:43:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656950 Ashanti Regional NDC Women’s Organiser, Gloria Korshior Huze, has raised concerns over the role of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ejisu in matters relating to stool lands, insisting that the MCE does not have authority to directly interfere in traditional land issues.

Her comments come after tensions over a disputed land matter in the Ejisu Municipality involving the MCE, Jerryne Asante.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Madam Huze argued that while the MCE has jurisdiction over the municipality, she is not a representative of the Krapa stool lands.

“The Municipal Chief Executive is responsible for Ejisu, but not a representative for Krapa stool lands,” she said.

She explained that land matters involving stool lands should ordinarily be handled through traditional authorities and not solely by the MCE.

“When it comes to land issues, the MCE is not a representative. She is MCE for Ejisu, not Krapa hene,” she stated.

Madam Huze questioned why, if complaints were made to the MCE by chiefs, she was not contacted directly before any action was taken.

“If indeed the chiefs went to complain that I have taken their lands, what prevented the MCE from calling me to discuss it? Why go behind me to destroy my property?” she asked.

She further argued that as a regional party executive, she should have been engaged directly if there were any issues concerning her activities.

“If she is a good leader, she could have called me to inform me about any development. I have not challenged any chief over that land,” she added.

Madam Huze also questioned why the matter was not formally reported to the police if there were allegations of wrongdoing.

“If I had chased chiefs from the land with guns, why didn’t they report it to the police instead of going to the MCE?” she queried.

Her remarks follow ongoing tensions in Ejisu over alleged disputes involving a warehouse and land use, which have sparked conflicting accounts between local political actors and municipal authorities.

Security concerns force NDC Chairman to suspend North East ‘Thank You Tour’ https://www.adomonline.com/security-concerns-force-ndc-chairman-to-suspend-north-east-thank-you-tour/ Wed, 29 Apr 2026 07:29:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656727 The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has suspended his scheduled “Thank You Tour” of the North East Region following heightened security concerns linked to a recent attack on a military convoy in Bawku.

A senior member of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) confirmed to JoyNews that the decision was taken after consultations over the deteriorating security situation, particularly after a violent incident in Binduri, where unknown assailants reportedly attacked a military escort convoy.

The cancellation affects the two-day tour, which was scheduled to begin on April 29 with visits to Yagaba, Walewale, and Nalerigu, before continuing on April 30 to Bunkpurugu, Yunyoo, and Chereponi.

According to the source, security agencies advised against proceeding with the visit as a precautionary measure to safeguard the NDC National Chairman, party supporters and the general public.

“Anytime there are disturbances, there are spillover effects. To be safe, we have decided to avoid the trip and focus on finding a lasting solution to these issues,” the source disclosed.

“We cannot downplay the situation, but there are other equally important engagements.”

The “Thank You Tour” forms part of Mr Asiedu Nketiah’s post-election outreach activities aimed at appreciating party supporters across the region for their commitment and contributions.

The sudden suspension has reportedly disappointed many party supporters who had prepared to welcome the Chairman across the six constituencies.

The Bawku area has remained volatile in recent times due to recurring violence, with the latest attack on military personnel further escalating tensions and prompting heightened security measures across parts of the North East and Upper East corridors.

As of now, the NDC leadership has yet to officially announce new dates for the regional tour. Residents and party supporters have been urged to remain calm as authorities continue to monitor the security situation.

Oforikrom MP describes GRIDCo CEO’s removal as “smokescreen” https://www.adomonline.com/oforikrom-mp-describes-gridco-ceos-removal-as-smokescreen/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 15:02:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2656158 The Member of Parliament for Oforikrom and a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Michael Kwasi Aidoo, has described the removal of Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) CEO, Ing. Mark Awuah Baah, as a “smokescreen”.

He said the government is avoiding a proper approach to solving the real issues in the power sector.

His comments follow an announcement by Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, that the Energy Minister had directed the GRIDCo boss to step aside.

The directive came after a fire incident at the Akosombo Power Control Centre last week, which triggered widespread power disruptions across parts of the country.

Top ECG managers in the Ashanti Region are also alleged to have been transferred.

Reacting to the development in an interview with Barima Kofi Dawson-Akokoa on Nhira FM’s Kro Yi Mu Nsem on Monday, April 27, the Oforikrom MP said the decision would not resolve Ghana’s recurring power crisis.

“I see the sacking of the GRIDCo CEO as a smokescreen because an issue has come up, so we need to use someone as a scapegoat. In fact, I am told there is going to be a reshuffling of ECG leadership in Kumasi, and this will not solve the problem,” he stated.

He called on the government to seek lasting solutions to the power crisis rather than dismissing and transferring engineers who are working to keep the national grid stable.

Mr. Aidoo cautioned against dragging politics into the energy sector, particularly the removal of technical staff on political grounds.

“Should the power outages persist following this action, will it necessitate further reshuffling?” he questioned.

“There is a pressing issue that requires resolution. We must desist from dismissing technical personnel based on alleged political affiliations and suspicions of sabotage. We shouldn’t politicise our technical people working in the power sector.”

The lawmaker identified negligence, inadequate planning, and insufficient stakeholder engagement in transformer installations as the causes of the recent intermittent power cuts, locally known as dumsor.

He further noted that the previous NPP administration installed a lot of transformers to sustain power supply, suggesting that current challenges stem from policy discontinuity and inadequate maintenance.

“ECG advises on how to fix and upgrade transformers. Based on that advice, former MD Dubik Mahama procured these transformers and other ECG equipment. So the NDC government should have carried out this maintenance last year to prevent the power crisis, but they failed to do so and instead accused Samuel Dubik Mahama of over-procurement,” he said.

“I feel that government negligence, poor planning, and lack of engagement with experts led us into this energy crisis,” Mr. Aidoo stated.

We know your capabilities – NPP Council of Elders back Paul Afoko https://www.adomonline.com/we-know-your-capabilities-npp-council-of-elders-back-paul-afoko/ Mon, 27 Apr 2026 06:49:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655894 The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reaffirmed Awentami Paul Afoko’s leadership abilities, citing his proven track record in party reorganisation.

During a high-level consultation in Kumasi, the elders described Afoko as a “household name” whose past strategies significantly improved the party’s fortunes. Many present said they had witnessed firsthand how his organisational acumen translated into electoral gains for the NPP.

With concern mounting over the party’s declining support in the five northern regions, the Council urged Afoko to take up the mantle and work in tandem with NPP flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to reclaim lost ground ahead of the 2028 general elections.

“We have experienced your leadership and we know your capabilities,” the Council declared. “The task before us is clear: help bring the north home when you become National Chairman. Work closely with Dr. Bawumia so that together, you can make a meaningful impact and leave an indelible mark on this party.”

Mr. Afoko, who is engaging party kingmakers and advisors nationwide ahead of his official announcement, expressed gratitude for the kind words and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the NPP despite past challenges.

“The Ashanti Region remains the heartbeat of the NPP, and I am open to your advice because you are the ones running the party,” Afoko said.

“I am deeply worried about our current state. But this is not the time to apportion blame for the 2024 defeat. Every one of us must accept responsibility. We cannot sit back and watch the party slide backwards. Our only option is to unite, pool our experience, and work collectively to return the NPP to power in 2028.”

He called on members across all levels to share their knowledge and collaborate in rebuilding a stronger and more formidable party.

Adom-Otchere says NDC uncomfortable with OSP’s independence https://www.adomonline.com/adom-otchere-says-ndc-uncomfortable-with-osps-independence/ Sat, 25 Apr 2026 15:32:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655658 The host of Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom-Otchere, has stated that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) appears uneasy about the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), which he says operates with a level of independence from political influence.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue, he argued that the party’s current posture towards the OSP is driven less by legal interpretation and more by discomfort with how firmly the office enforces anti-corruption laws.

He referenced ongoing public and legal debates over the mandate of the OSP, including a case before the Supreme Court challenging aspects of its legal foundation and prosecutorial authority.

According to Adom-Otchere, the NDC did not raise objections to the OSP while in opposition, including during the vetting of Attorney-General Dr. Dominic Ayine. He, however, noted a change in position now that the party is in government.

“The reason why they are complaining about the OSP now is because of the OSP’s indicative independence to politicians. They saw the OSP do it to the NPP, they enjoyed it. They have seen that this OSP is not shifting. He will do it to NDC and they are afraid,” he said.

His comments come after a High Court in Accra directed the Attorney-General to take over all criminal prosecutions initiated by the OSP, on the basis that the office lacks the authority to independently prosecute criminal cases.

The development also comes amid an ongoing legal challenge filed by private citizen Noah Adamtey against the Attorney-General, questioning the constitutional scope of the OSP’s powers. The suit argues that prosecutorial authority under the Constitution rests solely with the Attorney-General under Article 88.

The case has intensified national debate over Ghana’s anti-corruption framework, with the Supreme Court expected to determine the legal boundaries between the Office of the Special Prosecutor and the Attorney-General’s Department.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem: NPP executives boycott election committee inauguration; petition party https://www.adomonline.com/tarkwa-nsuaem-npp-executives-boycott-election-committee-inauguration-petition-party/ Fri, 24 Apr 2026 07:35:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655288 There is growing confusion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency of the Western Region over the elections committee.

Some constituency executives, as a result, boycotted the inauguration of the party’s polling station elections committee over alleged breaches of the party’s guidelines for the formation of such committees.

They contend that the breaches were constitutional and a deliberate attempt to stampede the process in favour of some preferred persons within the constituency.

Speaking to the media, Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng explained that the decision to ignore some former constituency executives, assemblymen associated with the party, former Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCES), and polling station executives, but rather fill the committees with some young polling station executives aligned to certain individuals and presented as opinion leaders, is disingenuous and an act that seeks to undermine the process and create chaos.

He cited an example of places like Cyanide and Kwabedu electoral areas. “You appoint staff of Mireku Duker as election committee members and christen them opinion leaders, knowing very well that the same people created chaos even during the polling station registration, is a bad decision,” he said.

The NPP executive further alleged that the move is deliberately intended to disqualify persons who are not openly supportive of certain individuals, adding that it will only create confusion in an exercise that seeks to build the party.

The dissatisfied members have now petitioned the party at the national level to dissolve the committees and have them properly reconstituted.

The petition, signed by Augustine Quaicoe, the Constituency Organiser; Frank Gyemfi, Second Vice Chairman; and Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng, the Financial Secretary, explained that the setting up of the committees did not follow the NPP’s guidelines. It added that their decision to petition the party’s national leadership follows the failure to resolve the issue at the constituency and regional levels.

Mr Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng called on the national executives of the NPP not to see the petition as an expression of minority dissent but a principled call for fidelity to party rules. “The Party must not be allowed to collapse on the altar of extreme autocracy disguised as expediency or majority will,” he cautioned.

Meanwhile, the petition noted that:

“Contrary to the express provisions of the Party’s guidelines, the Constituency Secretary, Mr Fuseni Amadu, acting in concert with certain associates, unilaterally selected individuals who do not fall within the categories envisaged by the regulations…

No meeting of the Constituency Executive Committee was convened to deliberate upon or approve the selection of the Electoral Area Elections Committee members.

Persons who are merely aligned to particular interests at the polling station level were improperly designated as ‘opinion leaders’ and presented as members of the Committee, thereby circumventing the intent and letter of the guidelines.

At the inauguration of the Committee, the Regional Secretary, Mr Henry Amankwa Afrifa, openly admitted that he exerted pressure on the Constituency Secretary and the Regional representative to hastily submit names due to time constraints, after failing to comply with the guidelines to submit the names at least four days before the opening of nominations, hence resulting in the abandonment of due process.

Furthermore, the names presented at the inauguration differed from previously submitted ones, and this was done without any consultation or approval from the appropriate party organs.

The Constituency Organiser formally raised concerns with both constituency and regional leadership; however, no lawful or satisfactory resolution was provided.”

For these reasons, the petitioners want the party to declare the committees null and void and reconstitute them.

Below is the petition

DATE: 23rd April, 2026

SUBJECT: FORMAL PETITION FOR NULLIFICATION AND RECONSTITUTION OF ELECTORAL AREA ELECTIONS COMMITTEE – TARKWA-NSUAEM CONSTITUENCY

1. INTRODUCTION

We, the undersigned, being officers and committed members of the Party in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, respectfully petition your high office for urgent intervention in relation to grave procedural irregularities and breaches of the Party’s Rules and Regulations governing the constitution of Electoral Area Elections Committees.

This petition has become necessary following repeated but unsuccessful efforts to have these concerns and many infractions addressed at both the constituency and regional levels.

2. LEGAL AND REGULATORY FRAMEWORK

We respectfully draw your attention to the Rules and Regulations for Polling station Elections Committee

The Polling Station Elections shall be conducted by three (3)member Polling Station Elections Committees across the Constituency within the scheduled dates.

. The Polling Station Elections Committees for each Constituency shall be appointed by the Constituency Executive Committee and

the Regional Steering Committee provided they are registered Party Members in the Constituency where they are to conduct theelections.

          •         The Constituency Executive Committee shall furnish the Regional

Steering Committee and the National Secretariat with the list of the Polling Station Election Committees at least one (1) week before the opening of nominations for the Polling Election

These provisions are mandatory and are designed to ensure transparency, fairness, and institutional accountability.

3. STATEMENT OF FACTS

3.1 Contrary to the express provisions of the Party’s guidelines, the Constituency Secretary, Mr. Fuseni Amadu, acting in concert with certain associates, unilaterally selected individuals who do not fall within the categories envisaged by the regulations.

3.2 No meeting of the Constituency Executive Committee was convened to deliberate upon or approve the selection of the Electoral Area Elections Committee members.

3.3 Persons who are merely aligned to particular interests at the polling station level were improperly designated as “opinion leaders” and presented as members of the Committee, thereby circumventing the intent and letter of the guidelines.

3.4 At the inauguration of the Committee, the Regional Secretary, Mr. Henry Amankwa Afrifa, openly admitted that he exerted pressure on the Constituency Secretary and the Regional representative to hastily submit names due to time constraints, after failing to comply with the guidelines to submit the names at least 4 days before opening of nomination hence resulting in the abandonment of due process.

3.5 Furthermore, names presented at the inauguration differed from previously known submissions, and this was done without any consultation or approval by the appropriate Party organs.

3.6 The Constituency Organiser formally raised concerns with both constituency and regional leadership; however, no lawful or satisfactory resolution was provided.

4. ISSUES FOR DETERMINATION

From the foregoing, the following issues arise for determination:

          •         Whether the Polling Station  Elections Committee in Tarkwa-Nsuaem was constituted in accordance with the Party’s Rules and Regulations;

          •         Whether the failure to convene a Constituency Executive Committee meeting invalidates the selection process;

          •         Whether “urgency” can lawfully justify non-compliance with mandatory procedural requirements;

          •         Whether the inauguration of the Committee, under the circumstances, is valid and sustainable.

5. ARGUMENTS

5.1 It is a well-established principle of organizational governance that where a procedure is prescribed by rules, failure to comply renders the resulting act null and void.

5.2 The complete omission of the Constituency Executive Committee from the selection process constitutes a fundamental procedural defect that cannot be cured by subsequent actions.

5.3 The justification of urgency, as admitted by the Regional Secretary, cannot override mandatory provisions of the Party’s regulations. Expediency must not supplant legality.

5.4 The substitution of qualified categories of persons with improperly designated individuals undermines the integrity, credibility, and fairness of the electoral process.

5.5 The cumulative effect of these breaches points to a pattern of unilateralism and procedural disregard that threatens internal democracy and Party cohesion.

6. LOSS OF CONFIDENCE

We respectfully state that we have lost confidence in:

          •         The Constituency Chairman, Mr. Benjamin Assabill, for failing to exercise oversight and assert leadership;

          •         The Constituency Secretary, Mr. Fuseni Amadu, for acting outside the bounds of established procedures;

          •         The Regional Secretary, Mr. Henry Amankwa Afrifa, and the Regional representative, Kwame Armah for condoning and facilitating procedural breaches.

7. RELIEFS SOUGHT

In view of the above, we respectfully pray that the National Secretariat:

          1.       Declare the composition and inauguration of the Electoral Area Elections Committee in Tarkwa-Nsuaem null and void;

          2.       Order the immediate cancellation of the said Committee;

          3.       Direct that a properly constituted Constituency Executive Committee meeting be convened to select eligible members strictly in accordance with Party guidelines;

          4.       Ensure strict compliance with the Rules and Regulations governing Electoral Area Elections;

          5.       Take appropriate administrative or disciplinary measures where necessary to safeguard the integrity of the Party’s processes.

8. CONCLUSION

The strength of the Party lies in its adherence to rules, fairness, and collective responsibility. Any deviation from these principles, particularly under the guise of urgency, poses a significant threat to unity and electoral success.

We therefore respectfully urge your office to act decisively and expeditiously to restore procedural integrity and confidence in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency.

SIGNED:

          •         Augustine Quaicoe – Constituency Organiser

          •         Frank Gyemfi – 2nd Vice Chairman

          •         Kwadwo Antiedu Kwarteng

Trobu Youth Organizer of NDC Agabus declares bid for Gt Accra deputy youth organizer role https://www.adomonline.com/trobu-youth-organizer-of-ndc-agabus-declares-bid-for-gt-accra-deputy-youth-organizer-role/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 17:28:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2655185 The Trobu Constituency Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Eric A. Afeme, popularly known as Agabus, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of Deputy Regional Youth Organizer for the Greater Accra Region.

In a declaration of intent released to party members, Afeme described his decision as a continuation of a long-standing journey of service to the party.

He emphasized his commitment to advancing the interests of the NDC youth wing, highlighting over two decades of active involvement in party structures and grassroots mobilization.

Afeme, who currently serves as the Trobu Constituency Youth Organizer, stated that his experience has equipped him with the organizational and leadership capacity required to mobilize and strengthen the youth base across the region.

He noted that his roles within the party have sharpened both his “organizational and human acumen,” positioning him to effectively coordinate youth activities at a higher level.

Outlining his vision, Afeme pledged to focus on nurturing young talents, enhancing collaboration among youth organizers, and improving welfare systems for young party members.

He also stressed the need to deepen stakeholder engagement to sustain the vibrancy and unity of the party in Greater Accra.

“I am taking up this position with the greatest responsibility, honour, and commitment,” he stated, while calling on party faithful to support his bid.

His declaration comes at a time when internal mobilization within the NDC youth wing is intensifying ahead of expected regional reorganization processes.

The youth wing remains a critical arm of the party, led nationally by figures such as George Opare-Addo, who also serves as Ghana’s Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment.

Afeme concluded his message with an appeal for unity and collective effort, urging members to work together to protect and build on the gains of the party.

His candidacy is expected to add to the growing contest for key youth leadership positions within the Greater Accra Region.

Boycott South African products now — Afigya Kwabre MP on treatment of Ghanaians https://www.adomonline.com/boycott-south-african-products-now-afigya-kwabre-mp-on-treatment-of-ghanaians/ Thu, 23 Apr 2026 10:18:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654949 Member of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North and Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Energy Committee, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has called on Ghanaians to boycott South African products and businesses over recent developments in South Africa.

Speaking on Badwam on Adom TV, he described the situation as unacceptable and urged immediate action from Ghanaians.

According to him, reports of hostility towards Africans, including Ghanaians, in South Africa should not be tolerated.

“What is happening in South Africa is a complete nonsense and should not be tolerated,” he said.

He argued that if Ghanaians are not welcomed or are mistreated in South Africa, then there is no reason to support South African businesses operating in Ghana.

He specifically called for a boycott of South African-owned products and establishments, including malls and other businesses within the country.

“With immediate effect, Ghanaians should start boycotting their products and businesses,” he added.

Collins Adomako-Mensah further noted that South Africans live and operate businesses in other African countries without facing similar treatment, stressing the need for fairness and mutual respect.

The OSP must stay but must up their game – Dafeamekpor https://www.adomonline.com/the-osp-must-stay-but-must-up-their-game-dafeamekpor/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 19:09:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654724 The Member of Parliament for South Dayi and Majority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, has said the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) should not be scrapped, but must improve its performance to be effective in the fight against corruption.

Speaking in an interview on JoyNews, Mr Dafeamekpor made it clear that his position is not a change of stance, but a call for reforms to strengthen the institution.

“I think it should stay… it should stay,” he said.

He said that the OSP must expand its presence across the country and act more proactively, especially at the regional and district levels.

“If they can up their game, if you can open the regional offices, if you can open district offices and be checking more frequently at those levels, it shouldn’t take the Auditor-General to move from Accra… for us to be hearing the leakages a year after they have occurred,” he stated.

According to him, delays in detecting financial irregularities defeat the purpose of setting up anti-corruption institutions.

“Then we haven’t done anything,” he added.

Mr Dafeamekpor said that prevention is critical in tackling corruption and warned that the current system is too reactive.

“Prevention is key to the anti-corruption fight. You are not preventing,” he said.

On the legal dispute involving the OSP and the Attorney-General, he acknowledged the office’s decision to file a notice of appeal and seek a stay of execution, describing it as within their rights.

“It’s their right to appeal,” he said, but added that the law is clear on the effect of such actions.

“A mere filing of a process does not stay the execution of a court order,” he explained.

He advised the OSP to take steps to ensure the matter is addressed quickly by the courts.

“What they should do is to apply for an abridgement of time to have that motion for stay quickly heard,” he said.

The Majority Chief Whip added that until a stay is granted, the Attorney-General is justified in proceeding with actions related to the case.

“But until it is stayed, I believe the Attorney-General will proceed,” he said.

He also dismissed suggestions of a major conflict between the two institutions, saying the situation has been overstated.

“I don’t see where the fight is. We are really creating a fight that does not exist,” he said.

Hundreds turn up for NPP’s “Yensuro Ahunahuna” demo in Sunyani [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/hundreds-turn-up-for-npps-yensuro-ahunahuna-demo-in-sunyani/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 12:45:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654532 The streets of Sunyani were awash with party colours on Wednesday as supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) staged a massive “Yensuro Ahunahuna” (We Are Not Intimidated) demonstration.

Clad in black, red, white and blue, demonstrators marched through principal streets, chanting “Yensuro Ahunahuna” to signal defiance and resilience in the face of what they describe as political intimidation.

The protest, which drew hundreds of party faithful, is part of growing agitation within sections of the NPP, as supporters demand fairness, transparency and respect for internal party processes.

Adom News’ Christian Ofori Kumah reported that the protest was peaceful, but participants remained resolute, warning that they will sustain pressure until their concerns are addressed.

Participants carried placards with bold inscriptions and sang party songs, creating an atmosphere charged with both protest and solidarity. Some protesters said the demonstration was meant to send a clear message that they would not be silenced or sidelined.

The demonstration is in response to what the NPP has described as growing intimidation and a clampdown on free speech.

The protest follows the arrest of the Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, over allegations of offensive conduct, false publication and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.

Although he has since been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties, party officials insist the development raises serious concerns about freedom of expression and democratic governance.

Agenda 111: It is not realistic to complete all 111 hospitals in four years – Mintah Akandoh https://www.adomonline.com/agenda-111-it-is-not-realistic-to-complete-all-111-hospitals-in-four-years-mintah-akandoh/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 11:54:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654468 The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has indicated that the current administration may not be able to complete all hospitals under the Agenda 111 initiative due to financial and practical challenges.

Speaking in an interview on Citi FM’s Breakfast Show, the Minister explained that although government remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure, it must take a pragmatic view of projects inherited from the previous administration led by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

He noted that the scale of the Agenda 111 programme, coupled with the different stages of completion at the time of transition, makes it unrealistic to promise full completion within a short timeframe.

Mr Akandoh pointed out that while some of the hospital projects are nearing completion, others are still at early stages and will require considerable time and resources.

“If we say that we will be able to complete all the Agenda 111 projects, which are over 100, within one year or even four years, it is a lie. Let’s be realistic. I started saying this even in opposition, and you heard me loud and clear that there was no way we were going to complete these 111 hospitals within the timeframe the president gave us,” he said.

The Agenda 111 initiative, introduced under the Akufo-Addo administration, was designed as a flagship policy to address gaps in Ghana’s healthcare system.

The programme aimed to construct 111 hospitals across districts, regional capitals and specialised locations to improve access to quality healthcare, particularly in underserved communities.

NPP’s ‘Yen Suro Ahunahuna Demo’ in Sunyani comes off today https://www.adomonline.com/npps-yen-suro-ahunahuna-demo-in-sunyani-comes-off-today/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 07:25:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654271 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to stage a demonstration in Sunyani today, Wednesday, April 22, to protest what it describes as the unwarranted arrest of some of its officials.

The party’s National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, explained that the protest, dubbed the “Yɛn Suro Ahunahuna Demo,” is being organised by the Sunyani East Constituency.

According to him, the demonstration is in response to what the party views as growing intimidation and a clampdown on free speech.

“Following a series of what we consider unwarranted arrests, the party is organising this demonstration. We are not afraid of these actions or the criminalisation of free speech. We believe democracy is under attack,” he said.

The protest follows the arrest of the Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, over allegations of offensive conduct, false publication, and the circulation of statements deemed likely to incite fear and panic.

Although he has since been granted bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties, party officials insist the development raises serious concerns about freedom of expression and democratic governance.

The NPP says the protest is intended to send a strong message against what it describes as attempts to silence dissenting voices.

Aspiring NPP Women’s Organiser questions NDC’s 24-Hour Economy, Women’s Bank https://www.adomonline.com/aspiring-npp-womens-organiser-questions-ndcs-24-hour-economy-womens-bank/ Wed, 22 Apr 2026 07:17:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654273 An aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Women’s Organiser hopeful for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Hilda Afua Asamani, has questioned the pace and visibility of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government’s flagship 24-hour economy agenda and related programmes aimed at women’s development in the area.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, Ms Asamani said residents—particularly market women, young entrepreneurs and unemployed youth—had expected early, practical rollouts after the NDC campaigned strongly on job creation and improved livelihoods ahead of the 2024 elections.

However, she argued that more than a year into the government’s tenure, many people in Nkwanta South are yet to see tangible initiatives directly linked to the widely publicised policy promises.

“Ghanaians were promised a 24-hour economy and stronger support systems for women to create jobs and improve household incomes,” she said.

“But after more than a year in office, people are still asking when these promises will move from slogans to action.”

Ms Asamani called for the establishment of a functional 24-hour market in Nkwanta South, stressing that extended trading hours could create new income opportunities for traders and small businesses while easing pressure on daytime-only commerce.

She noted that women make up a significant portion of the constituency’s informal sector and would be among the primary beneficiaries of a well-structured system that supports safe nighttime operations, including improved lighting, enhanced security, sanitation and reliable transport.

She also urged the government to take concrete steps toward establishing a dedicated Women’s Bank—or an equivalent financing arrangement—to support women-led enterprises.

According to her, limited access to affordable credit remains a major challenge for traders, farmers and small-scale entrepreneurs, many of whom rely on high-interest informal loans that reduce profits and hinder business growth.

In her assessment, the perceived slow pace of implementation has created uncertainty among constituents who expected early signs of progress.

She contrasted the situation with what she described as the initial momentum of the Free Senior High School policy under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, arguing that major flagship programmes should be backed by clear timelines, detailed implementation plans and measurable targets.

Ms Asamani therefore challenged the NDC administration to publish constituency-level details on the 24-hour economy strategy and the proposed Women’s Bank, including how Nkwanta South will benefit, which institutions will be responsible, and when residents can expect to see results.

She maintained that beyond national announcements, what matters most to ordinary citizens is whether policies translate into visible improvements—job creation, access to affordable credit, safer trading environments and stronger household incomes.

We will live by every promise we made – Asiedu Nketia assures Upper West Region https://www.adomonline.com/we-will-live-by-every-promise-we-made-asiedu-nketia-assures-upper-west-region/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 20:00:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654227 The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured residents of the Upper West Region that the party will deliver on its development promises following its electoral victory.

Speaking during an interview on Lambussie FM as part of his Thank You Tour of the Upper West Region, Mr Asiedu Nketia expressed appreciation to residents for their continued support and pledged that their confidence in the party would be justified.

“We are not only grateful in words, but we will live by every promise we made. By the end of the four-year term, the region will be better than it was in 2024,” he said.

He outlined several key infrastructure projects expected to improve livelihoods in the region, including major road construction and upgrades to transport networks.

According to him, work is currently ongoing on important road corridors linking the Upper West Region to other parts of the country, with the project divided into multiple lots to speed up completion.

“We recognise the poor state and long stretch of the road, so multiple contractors are working simultaneously to ensure faster delivery,” he explained.

Mr Asiedu Nketia also revealed plans to upgrade aviation infrastructure in the region, including the relocation and modernisation of existing airstrip facilities to meet improved standards.

“We want to ensure easier access to the region, not just for residents but also for economic activity,” he noted.

He emphasised that the NDC government, under President John Dramani Mahama, is focused on delivering tangible results rather than rhetoric.

“We prefer to perform rather than talk too much about what we are doing,” he said.

The NDC Chairman further highlighted the region’s contribution to national leadership, noting that several key government figures come from the Upper West Region.

He urged residents to remain confident in the government’s agenda, assuring them that development interventions would be inclusive and impactful.

I feel a sense of independence for Lambussie – Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/i-feel-a-sense-of-independence-for-lambussie-asiedu-nketia/ Tue, 21 Apr 2026 19:37:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2654190 The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has expressed excitement over the establishment of a radio station in Lambussie, describing it as a significant step towards giving the district its own voice.

Speaking during an interview on Lambussie FM during his Thank You Tour of the Upper West region, he said the platform would help shape local narratives and ensure residents receive information that reflects their realities.

“I feel a sense of independence for Lambussie,” he stated, noting that access to locally generated information is critical to community development.

The NDC Chairman disclosed that he had deliberately avoided media interviews for several months as part of a personal policy during his ongoing thank-you tour, but made an exception due to the importance of the occasion.

“I had decided as a policy to avoid all media interviews till I complete the thank-you tour, but I was compelled to break that tradition,” he said.

According to him, the absence of local media in the past meant that residents relied heavily on information from outside the district, which often did not fully represent their perspectives.

“People’s opinions are generally shaped by what they hear. I wasn’t comfortable that our people were being fed with news from outside the district,” he explained.

Mr Asiedu Nketia emphasised that the new radio station would empower the people of Lambussie to tell their own stories and contribute meaningfully to national discourse.

He described the development as a milestone that would enhance communication, promote accountability, and strengthen local identity.

Speaking on Ekosii Sen on Asempa FM, he emphasised the need for unity within the party as it prepares for future political contests.

“They should come home and let’s work together for the good of the party,” he added.

According to him, internal divisions will not help the party’s progress, stressing that collaboration and togetherness are key to rebuilding and strengthening the NPP.

Sammi Awuku urged members of the movement, many of whom are still part of the party, to set aside their differences and return to the fold.

He noted that the party is open to all members and is willing to engage in efforts that promote unity and collective progress.

No premature declarations or campaigns – NDC tells aspirants https://www.adomonline.com/no-premature-declarations-or-campaigns-ndc-tells-aspirants/ Sat, 18 Apr 2026 12:22:30 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653121 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned its members against prematurely declaring their intention to contest in the party’s upcoming internal elections, warning that such actions could result in disqualification.

The directive follows the party’s approval of guidelines for its internal electoral processes, including a detailed timetable covering elections from the branch level to the national stage.

In a statement, Deputy General Secretary in charge of Operations, Mustapha Gbande, indicated that the party has recently concluded a limited registration exercise for new members, along with a dues payment process to validate membership and determine eligibility to contest.

He emphasised that any declaration of intent outside the approved timelines would constitute a breach of the party’s rules and could lead to disqualification if proven.

“I will like to place on the records, that premature declaration of intentions to contest outside the timelines may constitute an activity outside the guidelines and same could be a potent ground for disqualification of an aspirant at any level, particularly constituency, regional and national level, if such evidence is established,” he cautioned.

Mr Gbande added that the party is committed to maintaining a stable political environment and ensuring that its internal elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.

The NDC has therefore urged all members to refrain from early campaigning and strictly adhere to the laid-down guidelines.

President Mahama kicks off Northern region tour to deepen citizen engagement https://www.adomonline.com/president-mahama-kicks-off-northern-region-tour-to-deepen-citizen-engagement/ Sat, 18 Apr 2026 10:59:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2653095 President John Dramani Mahama is set to begin a two-day #ResettingGhana tour of the Northern region today, Saturday, April 18, 2026.

The visit marks the second leg of the nationwide tour, following an earlier engagement in the Bono Region.

The initiative aims to create a direct platform for citizens to interact with the President and provide feedback on government policies, their impact on livelihoods, and ongoing development projects.

During the tour, residents—led by traditional authorities—will have the opportunity to raise concerns and highlight priority areas requiring government attention.

According to the Presidency, President Mahama will be accompanied by a delegation of ministers of state and heads of key institutions. As part of his itinerary, he is expected to cut the sod for the construction of 24-hour markets and inspect the progress of various development projects across the region.

On Sunday, the President will host a town hall meeting at the University of Development Studies in Tamale. The session is expected to serve as an accountability platform, where government appointees will outline and explain major interventions undertaken over the past year.

The #ResettingGhana tour forms part of the government’s broader effort to enhance transparency, strengthen citizen engagement, and assess the effectiveness of its policies at the grassroots level.

Politicians are afraid of Special Prosecutor; Attorney-General is ‘scared to the bone’ – Janet Nabla (Audio) https://www.adomonline.com/politicians-are-afraid-of-special-prosecutor-attorney-general-is-scared-to-the-bone-janet-nabla-audio/ Fri, 17 Apr 2026 15:50:03 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2652918 The 2024 presidential candidate of the People’s National Party (PNP), Janet Nabla, has waded into the ongoing debate over the powers of the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), claiming that even the Attorney-General is “scared to the bone” of the anti-corruption body.

Speaking on Adom FM Dwaso Nsem, Madam Nabla strongly opposed calls to weaken or scrap the OSP, insisting the office remains a critical tool in Ghana’s fight against corruption.

“Both the NDC and NPP are scared of the Special Prosecutor Office. The Attorney General is scared to the bones about the existence of the OSP and all what he is doing is to cover up the rots going on in the current government. Because while in opposition, they saw what the OSP did, so they know his capabilities,” she said.

Her comments come amid a growing power tussle between the Attorney-General’s Department and the OSP, following legal and political debates over prosecutorial authority.

Madam Nabla argued that beyond prosecutions, the mere existence of the OSP serves as a deterrent to corrupt practices among political actors, suggesting that the influence of the OSP cuts across political lines, affecting both major parties.

“To me, I am against scrapping off the Special Prosecutor’s Office. We have to protect it. I didn’t agree with the Special Prosecutor positioning himself as an NDC member when the party assumed power and I was sad. He is an independent body and should have remained as such. Now look at what they are doing to you,” she stated.

Nabla also criticised attempts to limit the prosecutorial powers of the OSP, describing recent developments as worrying for Ghana’s democratic and anti-corruption efforts.

“The court that is supposed to protect our democracy is now holding on to the prosecutorial powers of the Special Prosecutor, on what basis?” she questioned.

Despite her criticisms, she acknowledged that the establishment of the OSP was a significant step in strengthening accountability in governance.

“I respect the NPP even more because they brought the Special Prosecutor’s Office,” she noted.

Nabla maintained that Ghana must protect and strengthen the OSP rather than weaken it, stressing that the fight against corruption requires bold and independent institutions.

Her remarks add to the growing national conversation on the roles of the Attorney-General and the Special Prosecutor, and how best to ensure effective prosecution of corruption-related offences in the country.

The court admitted him to bail in the sum of GH¢30,000 with two sureties. He has also been directed to report to the police every two weeks while investigations continue.

Yakubu was arrested on Monday, April 13, 2026, in connection with ongoing investigations into alleged offensive conduct, publication of false information, and the circulation of statements considered likely to incite fear and panic.

He had earlier been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court on April 14, drawing public attention as investigations into the matter intensified.

Although formal charges are yet to be filed, sources suggest the arrest may be linked to alleged threats said to have been directed at a judge at the Adentan Circuit Court, an issue that has raised concern within legal and governance circles.

He is also alleged to have shared derogatory images of the President and some members of the government.

Investigations are ongoing as authorities work to establish the full facts of the case. The court’s bail conditions are expected to ensure his availability to assist with the probe.

Dr. Lawrence Tetteh explains why he will never enter politics https://www.adomonline.com/dr-lawrence-tetteh-explains-why-he-will-never-enter-politics/ Fri, 17 Apr 2026 11:28:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2652682 International evangelist and Founder of Worldwide Miracle Outreach, Rev. Dr. Lawrence Tetteh, has revealed that he has no interest in venturing into politics, citing the immense pressure and responsibility that come with leadership roles.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, he stated that he would rather remain who he is than become a President, Member of Parliament, or Metropolitan, Municipal or District Chief Executive (MMDCE).

“I would never want to become a President, would never want to become an MP or even an MCE. I like being Lawrence Tetteh,” he stated.

According to him, political leadership comes with significant challenges that many people often underestimate.

He explained that leaders endure intense pressure, particularly during election periods, and are constantly faced with difficult decisions.

“Being a leader is a very big responsibility that we should not take for granted,” he added.

Rev. Tetteh noted that he often prays for national leaders because of the burdens they carry, referencing figures such as John Dramani Mahama and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as examples of individuals who have had to navigate such pressures.

He also highlighted the challenge of dealing with insincere individuals, stating that some people surround leaders for selfish reasons rather than genuine support.

He added that leaders naturally desire to feel competent in their roles, making it important for them to have trustworthy and capable people around them.

Titus-Glover to declare bid for NPP National Organizer position https://www.adomonline.com/titus-glover-to-declare-bid-for-npp-national-organizer-position/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 14:36:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651785 Former Tema East Member of Parliament, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, has announced plans to officially declare his intention to contest for the position of National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The declaration is scheduled to take place on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at 3:00pm via a live broadcast on TikTok and Facebook.

In a formal invitation addressed to party faithful, supporters and the general public, Titus-Glover described the upcoming announcement as the beginning of a renewed political vision focused on repositioning the party for future success.

According to him, his bid will prioritise energising the grassroots base of the NPP, strengthening internal party structures, and fostering unity among members across the country.

He noted that these efforts are crucial in preparing the party for a strong showing in the 2028 general elections, adding that effective organisation at the base level will be key to achieving electoral victory.

Titus-Glover further called on fellow patriots and well-meaning Ghanaians to support what he described as an important journey toward rebuilding and consolidating the party’s strength.

Sosu criticises court directive on Special Prosecutor’s powers https://www.adomonline.com/sosu-criticises-court-directive-on-special-prosecutors-powers/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 12:52:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651741 The Member of Parliament for Madina, Francis-Xavier Sosu, has expressed strong reservations over a High Court directive requiring the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to hand over all ongoing prosecutions to the Attorney-General’s Department pending the determination of a case before the court.

Reacting to the ruling in a social media post, the legislator questioned the implications of the decision on Ghana’s anti-corruption drive.

“I disagree with this decision. How does this support our anti-corruption campaign? What does it add to it? Politics and governance. May God help us. We all want the best for Ghana,” he wrote.

Mr Sosu was reacting to a cryptic message posted by H Kwasi Prempeh, a respected member of civil society who wrote the following after the ruling:

Mr. Special Prosecutor, please don’t appeal, and don’t resign o; don’t! Don’t even fight it in the media. Relax koraa. You and your staff should just sit tight and collect your pay and perks and spend your budget as planned, ok. That, too, counts as public service in Ghana. Don’t kill ‘yaself’ over this! Country broke or no broke, we all dey inside–unequally, of course!

The court’s directive effectively places a temporary halt to the prosecutorial independence of the OSP, requiring that all cases currently being handled by the office be transferred to the Attorney-General until the legal challenge is resolved.

While details of the substantive case before the court remain under consideration, the ruling has sparked debate among legal and governance stakeholders about its potential impact on the fight against corruption.

The OSP, established as a specialised anti-corruption body, has been at the forefront of investigating and prosecuting corruption-related offences, particularly those involving public officials.

The temporary reassignment of its prosecutorial mandate is therefore expected to have significant implications for ongoing and future cases.

GH₵1.2bn Free Primary Healthcare plan ‘misplaced priority’ — Ayew Afriyie https://www.adomonline.com/gh1-2bn-free-primary-healthcare-plan-misplaced-priority-ayew-afriyie/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 10:05:18 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651633 The Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee and Member of Parliament for Effiduase/Asokore, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, has criticised the government’s decision to commit GH₵1.2 billion annually to the proposed Free Primary Healthcare programme, describing it as a misplaced priority.

His comments follow a disclosure by the Minister for Health that at least GH₵1.2 billion will be required each year to roll out the initiative, which seeks to expand access to basic healthcare services nationwide.

Speaking in an interview with Joy News, Dr Ayew Afriyie argued that Ghana already has an established foundation for primary healthcare delivery through Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds and community health workers.

“Who doesn’t know about dietary plans to prevent healthcare? Who doesn’t know about promotive healthcare? There are community health workers and auxiliary nurses who have been educating people all this while,” he stated.

He further raised concerns about the state of existing health infrastructure, noting that several district hospitals continue to operate from outdated colonial-era buildings or repurposed CHPS facilities.

According to him, government should prioritise completing ongoing hospital projects under the Agenda 111 programme rather than committing substantial resources to a new initiative.

“The most important thing is that every place has a CHPS compound. Every place has a health centre. What they lack is state-of-the-art district hospitals,” he said.

“You must think through and ensure that Agenda 111 projects are ongoing. You may not complete all at once, but you can restructure them so that within the next 10 years, most are completed.”

Dr Ayew Afriyie also questioned the rationale behind committing fresh funding to primary healthcare when significant investments have already been made into Agenda 111.

“You’ve invested almost $4.7 billion into Agenda 111 and not fully utilised it, yet you plan to spend $1.2 billion annually on primary healthcare,” he added.

He maintained that while strengthening primary healthcare is important, government must adopt a balanced and pragmatic approach that prioritises existing infrastructure gaps alongside new policy initiatives.

Put bill before him, he will sign – Yilo Krobo MP backs Mahama on LGBTQ+ law https://www.adomonline.com/put-bill-before-him-he-will-sign-yilo-krobo-mp-backs-mahama-on-lgbtq-law/ Wed, 15 Apr 2026 06:18:59 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651461 Member of Parliament for Yilo Krobo, Albert Tetteh Nyakotey, has defended President John Mahama over concerns about the status of the controversial LGBTQ+ bill.

He insists the President will assent to it when it is formally presented.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Tuesday, the MP aligned himself with the presidency’s recent position that the issue is not an immediate national priority.

The presidency has come under scrutiny after indicating that LGBTQ matters are currently not a priority for the government, sparking debate about its commitment to the proposed legislation.

But Mr Nyakotey said the President’s position must be understood within context.

“I will say yes, I agree with the President. What I heard the President say was that the bill is not a priority now, and whether it’s a priority or not depends on the context.”

He pointed to developments under former President Nana Akufo-Addo to explain the sensitivity surrounding the issue.

“During the time of President Akufo-Addo, we remember on the 31st of January, I think 2021, there was an advocacy centre that was opened at Osu. And then not long after, the President was interviewed, and he said that LGBTQ rights were bound to be granted. This is what he said at the time.”

According to him, those comments triggered public anxiety and strong reactions.

“So naturally, there was a lot of agitation because people did not have confidence in the President that he was going to do the right thing. Once we had the elections, the agitations went down.”

Mr Nyakotey argued that President Mahama has since made Ghana’s position clear on the international stage.

“And if you remember, even on your news item of March 27, 2026, in the US, the President insisted, and defended the stance of Ghana and the stance of the government, that the international community should not come and impose any ideas on us.”

He stressed that the President has already signalled his readiness to act once the legislative process is complete.

“So the President defended it and said that once it gets to him, it’s going to be signed.”

The MP clarified that the current delay is procedural, not political.

“This is a private members’ bill, which is initiated by a group of individuals. So today, as we are speaking, there’s no document before the President to sign.”

He maintained that once the bill is properly transmitted, there will be no hesitation from the presidency.

“I believe strongly that once we transmit a document or put a before the President, the President is going to sign it.”

Asiedu Nketia rejects tribalism claims, defends merit-based appointments https://www.adomonline.com/asiedu-nketia-rejects-tribalism-claims-defends-merit-based-appointments/ Tue, 14 Apr 2026 06:48:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651030 The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has dismissed allegations that the governing party is tribalistic, insisting that appointments under the NDC are guided strictly by competence and national interest rather than ethnic considerations.

Addressing party executives and grassroots supporters at Asawase in the Ashanti Region as part of his ongoing “Thank You Tour”, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the NDC’s philosophy is rooted in inclusiveness and equal opportunity for all Ghanaians, regardless of background or ethnicity.

The tour, which marks the second phase of post-election engagements following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections, began in Asawase, a stronghold of the party and the constituency of Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak.

He noted that recent criticisms from members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), who accused the NDC of sidelining Ashantis in the appointment of some District Chief Executives (DCEs) from northern Ghana, were inconsistent with the party’s long-standing commitment to merit-based governance.

According to him, under President John Dramani Mahama, appointments are made based on ability, experience and capacity to deliver, not on ethnic identity or regional origin.

He stressed that all appointees are first and foremost Ghanaians, and that the party does not discriminate between citizens from different parts of the country.

Mr Asiedu Nketia further argued that excluding qualified individuals on the basis of origin would itself amount to discrimination, especially in the distribution of public office.

He contrasted the NDC’s approach with what he described as past practices by political opponents, where non-indigenes in certain areas were allegedly sidelined after elections in favour of locally aligned candidates.

He also questioned the consistency of the opposition’s stance, noting that the same critics who oppose the appointment of northerners in the Ashanti Region have previously supported candidates from northern Ghana for national leadership positions.

According to him, the NDC’s governance approach prioritises performance and accountability, with appointees retained based on results and removed when they fail to meet expectations, regardless of background.

He added that the government remains focused on economic recovery and stabilisation following what he described as a challenging economic situation inherited by the administration.

While acknowledging concerns from some supporters about the pace of economic relief, he urged patience, explaining that rebuilding the economy remains the immediate priority for national benefit.

Mr Asiedu Nketia also highlighted the party’s electoral gains in the Ashanti Region, describing the performance as unprecedented.

He credited the success to strong grassroots mobilisation and improved campaign coordination, including enhanced polling station monitoring to reduce electoral irregularities.

He expressed appreciation to supporters in Asawase and across the region, assuring them that the NDC would continue to pursue inclusive governance and balanced development across the country.

Abronye DC and Abubakar Yakubu granted bail https://www.adomonline.com/abronye-dc-and-abubakar-yakubu-granted-bail/ Tue, 14 Apr 2026 06:09:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2651003 The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, and the party’s Sunyani East Communications Officer, Abubakar Yakubu, have been granted bail by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.

Abronye DC was reportedly arrested in connection with alleged threats made against a presiding judge at the Adenta Circuit Court, while Baba Amando was taken into custody over claims of false publication.

Speaking to journalists in Accra on Monday, April 13, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, called on the police to exercise restraint and professionalism in carrying out their duties.

Also addressing the media, the National Organiser of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, criticised the arrests, describing them as a calculated attempt by the government to divert public attention from what he termed its poor performance.

He argued that the government is under mounting pressure due to unfulfilled promises, including the passage of the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, tackling unemployment, reducing the cost of doing business at the ports, and executing the ORAL agenda.

According to him, these challenges have led to what he described as the harassment of members of the opposition party.

NPP’s Abronye DC arrested by police again https://www.adomonline.com/npps-abronye-dc-arrested-by-police-again/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 19:56:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650989 The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has apprehended the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC, following a series of controversial public statements.

The outspoken politician was reportedly picked up on Monday, 13th April 2026, to assist with ongoing investigations into allegations of offensive conduct conducive to the breach of the peace, false publication, and conduct likely to cause fear and panic.

While the police have yet to issue a formal charge sheet, sources close to the investigation suggest that this latest legal entanglement is significantly tied to alleged threats directed at a presiding judge at the Adenta Circuit Court.

The nature of the alleged threats has raised eyebrows within the legal community, coming at a time when judicial independence is a subject of intense national debate.

This is not the first time the NPP firebrand has found himself in the crosshairs of the law. This arrest follows a similar incident in September 2025, where Abronye was detained on charges of offensive conduct.

News of the arrest spread rapidly through the capital on Monday, sparking reactions within the ruling party.

Supporters of the Regional Chairman often view his rhetoric as a necessary boldness in political communication, while critics argue that his statements frequently cross the line into illegality.

The Ghana Police Service is expected to provide a detailed briefing on the specifics of the investigation within the next 24 hours. Until then, the Bono Regional Chairman remains in custody as detectives process the statements and evidence gathered so far.

NDC Flagbearer race tightens as Asiedu Nketia maintains lead – Global InfoAnalytics Poll https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-flagbearer-race-tightens-as-asiedu-nketia-maintains-lead-global-infoanalytics-poll/ Mon, 13 Apr 2026 12:00:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650734 A new poll by Global InfoAnalytics indicates a tightening contest among leading contenders for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.

The survey, released by the firm’s Executive Director, Mussa Dankwah, on Monday, April 13, 2026, shows that Johnson Asiedu Nketia continues to lead in what is described as a “top-of-the-mind” baseline assessment of potential candidates.

Despite maintaining the top spot, his advantage appears to be narrowing. The poll reveals that his lead has dropped from 16 percentage points in Week 1 to 10 percentage points in Week 2, indicating growing competition within the party.

In the latest findings, Asiedu Nketia secured 29 percent support. He is followed by Cassiel Ato Forson with 19 percent, while Haruna Iddrisu garnered 11 percent.

Julius Debrah and Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang each recorded 8 percent in the survey.

The poll also highlights a significant portion of undecided voters, with 24 percent of respondents yet to choose a preferred candidate, suggesting that the race remains fluid.

In comparison, Week 1 results had placed Asiedu Nketia at 28 percent, with a larger undecided bloc of 36 percent, while other contenders trailed behind.

The findings suggest that although Asiedu Nketia remains the frontrunner, the gap is narrowing as other aspirants gain ground, amid lingering uncertainty over who will ultimately enter the race.

Local Government Minister pushes for constituency offices for all MPs to deepen decentralisation https://www.adomonline.com/local-government-minister-pushes-for-constituency-offices-for-all-mps-to-deepen-decentralisation/ Sun, 12 Apr 2026 08:36:33 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650346 The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Ahmed Ibrahim, has called for the establishment of dedicated constituency offices for Members of Parliament across the country to strengthen grassroots governance.

According to him, such offices would serve as accessible platforms for constituents to directly engage their MPs, ensuring that concerns are addressed promptly while improving communication between lawmakers and the people they represent.

He made the remarks at a traditional and stakeholders’ forum held in Kasoa, where a new constituency office for the Awutu Senya East MP, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunor, was commissioned.

The Minister described the facility as a step in the right direction, noting that it would enhance the MP’s ability to interact with residents and respond effectively to local issues.

He stressed that replicating such initiatives nationwide would promote decentralisation and bring governance closer to the people.

He further urged stakeholders and relevant authorities to support the initiative to ensure that all constituencies benefit from improved access to parliamentary representation.

Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Local Government Committee of Parliament, Queenster Pokua Sawyer, clarified that plans to construct stores at the demolished Kasoa Old Market site were initiated under a previous administration and not by the current Awutu Senya East MP.

Agenda 111 was a corruption machinery under NPP; $2bn needed to complete all — SIF Boss https://www.adomonline.com/agenda-111-was-a-corruption-machinery-under-npp-2bn-needed-to-complete-all-sif-boss/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 19:35:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650123 Chief Executive Officer of the Social Investment Fund, Abass-Adams Nurudeen, has taken a swipe at critics claiming that the Mahama-led government has abandoned Agenda 111 projects commissioned by the previous administration.

Members of the opposition New Patriotic Party in the Ashanti Region have, for months, criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for allegedly failing to operationalise hospitals under the initiative.

They argue that the Akufo-Addo-led administration commissioned health facilities including Kokoben, Sewua, and Trede hospitals before exiting office.

However, speaking on Nhyria FM’s Kro Yi Mu Nsem on Thursday, April 9, 2026, Mr. Nurudeen dismissed the allegations, describing Agenda 111 as unplanned projects initiated by the NPP.

“The NPP never considered establishing Agenda 111 hospitals. It was the COVID-19 pandemic that drew their attention to such projects. If you look at their 2016 manifesto, there was nothing indicating they would construct these hospitals,” he told host Barima Kofi Dawson.

Mr. Nurudeen insisted that the projects allegedly commissioned had not been completed, stressing that they lack essential facilities such as electricity and other medical installations needed for operation.

He explained that the previous administration failed to secure sufficient funding for completion, leaving the current government with the burden of finishing the projects.

“Many of the facilities they commissioned cannot be operational because they lack essential amenities like electricity, making it difficult to employ health professionals,” he said.

Mr. Nurudeen further alleged that Agenda 111 became a “corruption machinery” at the presidency under the previous administration, claiming that contracts were awarded by the Chief of Staff instead of the Ministry of Health.

He also alleged that over $500 million was spent on the projects, an amount he said could have completed more than 50 fully equipped hospitals.

According to him, the current government will require over $2 billion to complete all Agenda 111 infrastructure projects.

“Because of corruption, they wasted $500 million and our assessment indicates that we need $2 billion to complete all the projects. Meanwhile, the economy we inherited is bad, with over $30 billion in debt. This year alone, we are paying about ¢50 billion in debt servicing,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mr. Nurudeen says the government is working to secure the necessary funds to complete the projects.

Nii Lantey Vanderpuye eyes NDC National Chair if Asiedu Nketia steps aside https://www.adomonline.com/nii-lantey-vanderpuye-eyes-ndc-national-chair-if-asiedu-nketia-steps-aside/ Fri, 10 Apr 2026 19:31:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2650120 The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has revealed his intention to contest for the National Chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), subject to the decision of the party’s current chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia.

According to Mr. Vanderpuye, his decision follows extensive consultations with key stakeholders, as well as a period of personal reflection, prayer, and fasting. He noted that he has engaged widely with supporters, who have encouraged him to step forward should the opportunity arise.

In an interview with Adom News, he explained that his political ambition is not in competition with the current chairman but is instead guided by respect and party unity. He emphasized that his final decision will depend largely on whether Mr. Asiedu Nketia, popularly known as “General Mosquito,” decides to seek re-election.

“I have thought about it, prayed about it, fasted, and discussed it with my constituents, and they all agree that I should contest,” he stated. “If the party opens nominations and my big brother, the current National Chairman, decides not to run again, then I am ready to step forward and contest for the position.”

Mr. Vanderpuye, however, made it clear that he would defer to the incumbent should he decide to seek another term. In that scenario, he said he would instead contest for the 1st Vice Chairman position, reaffirming his commitment to serving the party in any leadership capacity.

“I repeat, if he goes for the chairmanship position, then I will rather go for the National Vice Chairman role. But if he does not, then I will contest for the National Chairman position,” he added.

He further disclosed that while Mr. Asiedu Nketia is still considering his next move, he is also preparing himself in anticipation of the party’s decision to open nominations.

Mr. Vanderpuye’s declaration is expected to intensify internal discussions within the NDC as the party gradually approaches its next round of internal elections.

In his third public critique of the agreement, Mr. Cudjoe argued that Ghana risks paying billions of cedis annually under what he describes as an opaque and potentially costly arrangement.

He disclosed that earlier estimates suggested the country could pay about GH₵2.8 billion yearly under a 20 percent revenue-sharing model.

However, new information indicating a possible 13 percent revenue share could still result in payments ranging between GH₵3.28 billion and GH₵3.95 billion annually, depending on revenue projections.

According to him, these figures raise serious concerns about whether the country is paying for genuine incremental gains or simply sharing revenue that would have been generated naturally.

Mr. Cudjoe further questioned the rationale behind engaging a foreign private vendor to manage a critical AI-powered customs system, despite what he described as Ghana’s growing local digital capacity.

He cited several digital initiatives implemented under the previous administration, including the Ghana Card, mobile money interoperability, and the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), as evidence that local expertise can deliver cost-effective solutions.

He also warned of a potential “moral hazard,” arguing that a revenue-based compensation model could incentivise aggressive tax collection practices that may burden traders and consumers.

Mr. Cudjoe is therefore backing calls by the Traders Advocacy Group Ghana for full disclosure of the contract, following reports that access was denied under the Right to Information Act.

Mahama, NDC deceived Ghanaians on LGBTQ stance – Nana B https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-ndc-deceived-ghanaians-on-lgbtq-stance-nana-b/ Thu, 09 Apr 2026 19:42:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649655 The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has accused President John Dramani Mahama and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) of deceiving Ghanaians and religious leaders over their stance on LGBTQ issues.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Boakye claimed the NDC used the matter as a campaign tool, portraying the NPP as supportive of LGBTQ rights to win votes.

He questioned what he described as a shift in position by key government figures, including the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George, and the Foreign Affairs Minister, Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Mr Boakye also criticised the government’s handling of international engagements on LGBTQ matters, alleging inconsistencies in its posture.

He further stated that many religious leaders who supported the NDC based on its earlier position are now disappointed, insisting that the government has failed to live up to its promises.

“Because Lincoln University has withdrawn its honorary degree, the president now says it is no longer a priority. The religious leaders are now disappointed. Mahama has disappointed the clergy, religious leaders and Ghanaians. Wherever Akuffo Addo is, God is fighting for him,” he said.

Independent candidates can defeat NPP, NDC with strong organisation – A Plus https://www.adomonline.com/independent-candidates-can-defeat-npp-ndc-with-strong-organisation-a-plus/ Thu, 09 Apr 2026 06:08:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649280 The Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus, has taken aim at the organisational strength of Ghana’s two dominant political parties.

He argues that determined independent candidates can outperform them with the right structures in place.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on Wednesday, April 8, he suggested that both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lack effective grassroots organisation in many constituencies.

“NPP and NDC, they are not organised. If you have serious individuals in constituencies, they will beat them,” he said.

A Plus attributed his own success in the 2024 general election to meticulous planning and the establishment of a solid constituency network, which he described as “unbeatable.”

He noted that this level of preparation enabled him to secure an early victory, with his results reportedly among the first to be declared nationwide.

He further emphasised the importance of preparation and knowledge in politics, explaining that his academic background played a key role in shaping his approach.

“After about 45 minutes of the election, I wrote on Facebook that I had won because I won’t go to GIMPA, study research methods, and not know what I am doing on the grounds. That school fees will never go free,” he stated.

He added that his decision to spend years studying before entering politics was deliberate, as he sought to build a strong understanding of strategy and governance.

“That is why I spent a certain number of years going to school before entering politics. I wanted to get a certain understanding of things,” he explained.

A Plus backs Mahama’s leadership but… https://www.adomonline.com/a-plus-backs-mahamas-leadership-but/ Thu, 09 Apr 2026 06:07:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2649284 The Gomoa Central MP, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has expressed support for John Dramani Mahama’s leadership, while insisting that his position is not rooted in party affiliation.

He explained that his endorsement of the President is based on personal conviction and performance rather than loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

A Plus noted that he had long been confident that a second term under President Mahama would yield positive results, pointing to what he sees as encouraging developments so far.

“I believed strongly that John Mahama’s second term was going to be what it is now. So far, so very good, but it doesn’t make me NDC,” he said.

He further indicated that his political views are not tied to any single party, drawing parallels between his support for Mahama and his previous admiration for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

“I am a strong supporter of John Mahama, same as Akufo-Addo,” he stated.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV, A Plus emphasised that he recognises leadership potential across both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stressing that competence should take precedence over partisan identity.

“There are so many people in both political parties that I like, who I think can be presidents of Ghana. But that doesn’t make me NDC. There are also people in the NPP that I think, given the opportunity, will perform,” he said.

He added that Ghana’s progress depends on leadership that prioritises national development above political divisions, underscoring the need for a leader capable of driving meaningful transformation in the country.

Akwatia MP condemns sensational headline on Mahama’s Big Push programme https://www.adomonline.com/akwatia-mp-condemns-sensational-headline-on-mahamas-big-push-programme/ Tue, 07 Apr 2026 15:26:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2648693 The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has criticised the Daily Guide over what he describes as a misrepresentation of comments made by President John Dramani Mahama regarding the government’s Big Push programme.

Speaking on Accra-based UTV, Bernard Baidoo expressed disappointment that a national newspaper would publish a headline suggesting the President said the programme would benefit “side chicks,” insisting that such a claim distorts the actual message.

According to him, the President’s remarks focused on the economic impact of paying contractors under the Big Push initiative. Mahama used examples to illustrate how money, once paid to contractors, circulates through the economy, benefiting families, churches, businesses, and other sectors.

He clarified that the mention of “side chicks” was only part of a broader illustration of economic circulation and not the focus of the President’s statement.

Bernard Bediako Baidoo also noted that the President spoke about how contractors, when paid, could invest in assets such as vehicles, which in turn benefits car dealers and other sectors of the economy.

“The President never said the Big Push would benefit ‘side chicks’; he was explaining how paying contractors will circulate money across the economy,” he said.

He questioned the editorial judgment behind the publication, stating that the essence of the President’s message was about the importance of paying contractors to stimulate economic activity, not the sensational angle highlighted.

He added that he expected the Daily Guide to focus on the substance of the message rather than what he described as a misleading and unfortunate headline.

Afenyo-Markin slams school feeding contractors  for snubbing local rice farmers https://www.adomonline.com/afenyo-markin-slams-school-feeding-contractors-for-snubbing-local-rice-farmers/ Sat, 04 Apr 2026 08:22:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2647741 The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has criticised government-linked contractors, accusing them of sabotaging Ghana’s agricultural backbone by importing rice in defiance of presidential directives.

Addressing the Kwahu Business Forum on Friday, April 3, 2026, the Minority Leader described the sidelining of local farmers as a calculated subversion of national food security goals. He argued that while the state has publicly championed the “Buying Ghana” agenda, the reality reflects a systemic preference for imported grains, leaving local warehouses with unsold produce.

The controversy centres on the School Feeding Programme, a multi-million-cedi initiative intended to provide a guaranteed market for Ghanaian rice growers.

However, according to Mr Afenyo-Markin, contractors awarded supply deals are bypassing local silos in favour of cheaper imported alternatives.

“Contractors engaged to supply the School Feeding Programme with locally produced rice are bypassing farmers who had prepared their produce following a direct presidential directive,” he stated.

He noted that the situation has had a severe impact on the rice value chain, with many farmers—who had ramped up production in anticipation of ready markets—now facing mounting debts and post-harvest losses.

Mr Afenyo-Markin further criticised the lack of transparency at the National Food Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), revealing that despite repeated petitions from agricultural groups, the identities of contractors involved remain undisclosed.

“The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has repeatedly requested that NAFCO publish the names of those contractors. NAFCO has not responded,” he said, adding: “What has been described is not a market failure. It is a procurement betrayal.”

The Minority Caucus has signalled plans to pursue a parliamentary inquiry aimed at compelling the release of all active supply contracts and identifying beneficiaries involved in the procurement process.

Mr Afenyo-Markin warned that such lapses not only undermine the economy but also erode trust between the state and rural communities.

Without immediate reforms to ensure that state-backed programmes genuinely support local producers, he cautioned that Ghana’s drive toward self-sufficiency will remain elusive.

“Let us choose accountability over secrecy,” he concluded, urging government to align its procurement practices with its stated commitment to protecting the livelihoods of local farmers.
