Speaking on Citi FM on Monday, June 8, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr Nana Ayew Afriyie, said while the grievances of health professionals were understandable, patients in urgent need of care should not be made to suffer as a result of the dispute.

He criticised the handling of the suspension of KATH’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr (Med) Paa Kwesi Baidoo, arguing that the Health Minister’s response was unnecessarily harsh.

According to him, a more measured approach would have been preferable given the circumstances surrounding the situation.

“In the context of the issues, our position is fairly clear. Using a sledgehammer to kill an ant was not the immediate step that should have been taken by the Minister. We also think they should go back to work. Under the circumstances, we can only appeal to them because sustaining the strike over a period, with loss of lives, is not something that can be replaced. So we are appealing to them to return to work,” he said.

Dr Afriyie further stressed that resolving the standoff requires dialogue rather than escalation, urging all stakeholders to engage constructively to restore normal operations at the hospital as quickly as possible.

He also encouraged government to consider interim arrangements with private health facilities to reduce pressure on the public system during periods of industrial action.

“There are a lot of private hospitals that the government can designate under public-private partnership arrangements,” he noted, adding that such collaborations could help strengthen healthcare delivery and ensure continuity of care during disruptions.

The strike was triggered by the suspension of Dr Baidoo, a decision health workers have described as unjust and damaging to morale at the facility.

Political Analyst calls for CID, EOCO probe into alleged award-buying by appointees https://www.adomonline.com/political-analyst-calls-for-cid-eoco-probe-into-alleged-award-buying-by-appointees/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 19:54:10 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670669 Political analyst Dr. Bernard Tutu-Boahen has urged the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service and the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate claims that some ministers who were honoured at the 6th Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Awards allegedly paid money to receive the awards.

According to him, only a proper investigation can establish the truth regarding whether awardees paid money to be selected as the best-performing officials in various ministries.

The awards ceremony was held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, where government officials were honoured for what organisers described as excellence in public service delivery and leadership.

At the event, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo received the Best Regional Minister Award, while Lands and Natural Resources Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah was named Best Male Performing Minister.

Deputy Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Toffey, was adjudged Best Deputy Minister, while Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey received the Best Female Minister Award.

The ceremony brought together government officials, traditional leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate leadership and public service performance.

However, following the event, some appointees allegedly claimed that organisers contacted them to pay large sums of money in order to be selected for awards, claims they reportedly declined.

The allegations have since generated public controversy, with some critics questioning the timing of the ceremony amid reports of flooding and affected communities losing property.

Days after the event, President John Dramani Mahama, through his Secretary, Dr. Callistus Mahama, issued a directive instructing ministers of state, chief executive officers of state institutions, and other political appointees to refrain from participating in or accepting awards from private organisations without prior authorisation from the Office of the President.

According to the Presidency, many of these organisations are largely unknown, have unclear credentials, and lack transparent or verifiable criteria for assessing public officials.

Reacting to the issue on Adom TV’s The Big Agenda, Dr. Tutu-Boahen said the President’s directive suggests he may have taken notice of concerns he did not approve of.

He argued that if the President suspects wrongdoing in the awards process, the matter should be referred to the CID and EOCO for investigation.

Dr. Tutu-Boahen further stated that a full investigation and publication of findings would help clear public doubts and address speculation surrounding the awards.

He added that it would have been preferable if the President had handled the matter discreetly rather than issuing a public directive.

TEIN-KsTU lists tertiary students’ gains under Mahama government https://www.adomonline.com/tein-kstu-lists-tertiary-students-gains-under-mahama-government/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 19:31:54 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670654 The Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) of the NDC has said that a series of interventions introduced under President Mahama’s administration are significantly easing the financial and academic pressures on tertiary students across the country.

The group made the remarks during the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) TEIN branch’s freshers’ orientation and welcoming ceremony, where new students were introduced to the network’s role in advocating for student welfare.

Addressing the media on the sidelines of the event, TEIN-KsTU President Abigail Amenyah highlighted the “No-Academic-Fee” policy as one of the most impactful measures introduced so far.

She explained that the policy has substantially reduced the upfront cost of enrollment at the beginning of the semester, allowing many students to register without the financial strain that previously led to deferrals and dropouts.

She further praised the expanded Student Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) Plus programme, saying it has improved the speed and efficiency of loan disbursements while widening access to more applicants.

“For many years, financial constraints prevented a large number of Ghanaians from pursuing tertiary education. However, following the introduction of the ‘No Fee Stress’ initiative, which fully covers the academic fees of all first-year students, tertiary enrollment has seen a significant boost. The policy has eased the upfront financial burden on families and opened doors for students who previously could not afford to enroll,” she said.

Abigail added that reforms at the SLTF are also yielding results.

“The Student Loan Trust Fund has shown marked improvement in the efficiency of disbursements, and the growing number of beneficiaries reflects its increasing impact on supporting students through their academic journey,” she noted.

She also highlighted the Free Tertiary Education for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) initiative, which covers full tuition and academic fees for students with disabilities from first year through to graduation.

She described it as a landmark step toward building a more inclusive and sustainable financial aid system.

“This programme reduces barriers to higher education and ensures that students with disabilities have the resources they need to complete their academic journey without interruption,” she said.

“These interventions show the administration is listening. They are directly easing both the financial and academic strain that has affected student performance and retention in recent years,” she stressed.

She argued that tertiary students have received greater relief under the current NDC administration than under the previous NPP government, expressing confidence that Ghanaian youth would reward the party at the polls.

“I am confident that Ghanaian youth will turn out in large numbers to vote for the NDC in the next elections, ensuring that the party retains power. During the NPP’s tenure, tertiary students faced severe financial and academic challenges, with many struggling to meet fees and access support. But through the commitment and hard work of the Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, the government has taken decisive steps to turn things around,” she stated.

As Guest of Honour, Emmanuel Reagan Fynn, Ashanti Regional Organiser of the NDC and Regional Director of the National Service Authority, commended the freshers for joining TEIN, adding that the NDC has a consistent record of providing equal opportunities to all members regardless of background.

“They have made a good decision by joining TEIN, as it is the most effective political student wing across all tertiary institutions,” he said. “They will never regret their decision, because the NDC does not discriminate; we provide equal opportunity to every member.”

Fynn urged TEIN-KsTU members to actively publicise the government’s student-focused interventions, even to their counterparts in TESCON, the opposing student wing.

He argued that broader awareness of these policies would help the network rally support and secure votes for the NDC in the upcoming general elections.

While encouraging political engagement, he also reminded students to prioritise their academics.

“No matter how active you are in student politics, your studies must come first, because academic success is the primary reason for being in tertiary education,” he cautioned.

I will be the first Ashanti Regional Chairman to become NPP National Chairman – Wontumi https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-be-the-first-ashanti-regional-chairman-to-become-npp-national-chairman-wontumi/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 19:12:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670632 Aspiring National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has said that his record of service and achievements within the party make him a strong candidate to lead the NPP at the national level.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Chairman Wontumi urged party delegates to base their decision on commitment and competence rather than any other consideration.

“When it comes to the National Chairmanship, we should vote based on commitment and competence,” he said.

The Ashanti Regional Chairman recounted his rise through the ranks of the party, noting that he became the first constituency chairman in the Ashanti Region to be elected regional chairman and subsequently helped the NPP return to power.

“I am also the first constituency chairman in the Ashanti Region to become regional chairman who brought the party to power,” he stated.

Chairman Wontumi further pointed to what he described as another historic milestone he hopes to achieve in the party’s leadership.

“No one from the Ashanti Region has become National Chairman. I will be the first,” he declared.

According to him, his election would mark the first time an individual who has served as both constituency chairman and regional chairman in the party’s stronghold would rise to the position of National Chairman.

“I will be the person who has been constituency chairman and regional chairman who would become National Chairman from our stronghold,” he said.

The NPP National Chairman hopeful maintained that his experience at various levels of the party has prepared him to lead its efforts to rebuild and recapture power in the next general election.

A new Wontumi has emerged, I’m ready to lead NPP back to power – Chairman Wontumi https://www.adomonline.com/a-new-wontumi-has-emerged-im-ready-to-lead-npp-back-to-power-chairman-wontumi/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 19:04:09 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670621 Aspiring National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, has said that the challenges he has faced throughout his political career have prepared him to lead the party to victory in the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, the three-time Ashanti Regional Chairman said he has been transformed by his experiences and is now better equipped to guide the NPP through its rebuilding process following its 2024 electoral defeat.

“Now you have a new Wontumi. The problems and the challenges have built me and set me to be ready to lead the NPP to victory,” he declared.

Chairman Wontumi highlighted his two decades of service to the party, describing his political experience as one of his strongest qualifications for the position.

“I have been in this for 20 years. I have been regional chairman three consecutive times. I have the party constitution at heart,” he said.

According to him, the NPP must learn from the mistakes that contributed to its loss in the last election and focus on reconnecting with its grassroots supporters.

“I am coming to alleviate us from the pain of the election we lost. We have learnt from our mistakes. We are going to correct all of them. We must listen to what the people want and take action on it,” he stated.

The NPP national chairman hopeful said he is prepared to make personal sacrifices for the party’s success.

“I don’t mind losing everything for the NPP to win Election 2028,” he stressed.

Chairman Wontumi also argued that his election would send a strong message to ordinary party members that hard work and commitment can open doors to leadership positions within the party.

“If I am made chairman, it will debunk all the allegations that if you don’t have a certificate, you can’t rise through the ranks in the NPP. It will give everyone hope that if you work in the party well, you can rise to higher positions,” he said.

He further pledged to bridge the gap between the party’s grassroots base and its intellectual and professional class, saying both groups would be crucial to the NPP’s future success.

“The grassroots, for the first time, will partner with academia,” he noted.

Chairman Wontumi promised to adopt an inclusive leadership style if elected, describing himself as a leader who listens and works with all factions of the party.

“I am going to be a chairman for everyone—a working chairman, a grassroots chairman and a listening chairman. The NPP is going to work again. We will work collectively,” he said.

Mahama must demand quarterly KPI reports from all institutions https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-must-demand-quarterly-kpi-reports-from-all-institutions/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 14:32:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670523 Ghana has achieved stability. Now every institution must be measured on productivity, jobs and growth.

Ghana stands at an important turning point.

After years of economic turbulence, painful reforms, and difficult sacrifices by businesses and citizens alike, the country is finally beginning to experience the benefits of macroeconomic stabilization. Inflation is easing, exchange rate volatility has reduced considerably, investor confidence is gradually returning, and fiscal discipline is becoming more visible.

These gains did not happen by accident.

The Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Ghana deserve recognition for implementing the difficult measures required to restore confidence in the economy. Through fiscal reforms, debt restructuring, tighter monetary management, improved reserve positions, and a renewed focus on stability, Ghana has successfully laid the foundation upon which future growth can be built.

However, stability alone does not create prosperity.

Stability alone does not create jobs.

Stability alone does not industrialize a nation.

Stability alone does not transform the lives of millions of young Ghanaians seeking opportunity.

The next national challenge is therefore clear: how do we convert economic stability into economic productivity?

The answer lies in the successful implementation of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy.

The 24-Hour Economy Requires Institutional Discipline

The 24-Hour Economy cannot be achieved through speeches, slogans, or policy announcements.

It requires measurable action from every ministry, department, agency, regulator, district assembly, state-owned enterprise, utility provider, development finance institution, and public authority.

This is why President Mahama must demand quarterly Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports from every public institution in Ghana.

Every institution must be able to demonstrate how its activities are contributing to:

– Job creation

– Industrial growth

– Export expansion

– Agricultural productivity

– SME development

– Youth employment

– Investment attraction

– Infrastructure readiness

– Digital transformation

– Business competitiveness

The era of measuring success by budgets spent and meetings attended must come to an end.

The new measure must be economic impact.

Every Institution Must Answer One Question

Every quarter, every public institution should be required to answer one simple question:

“What measurable contribution have you made towards Ghana’s economic productivity and 24-Hour Economy agenda?”

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Agribusiness should report on factories activated, exports facilitated, and SMEs supported.

The Ministry of Finance should report on productive sector financing, investment incentives, and private sector mobilization.

The Bank of Ghana should track productive lending, financial inclusion, digital payments growth, and SME credit expansion.

The Ministry of Energy should report on industrial power reliability and support for shift-based operations.

The Ministry of Transport should demonstrate improvements in logistics efficiency and night-time movement of goods.

The Ministry of Education should show how technical institutions are preparing workers for modern industry.

District Assemblies should account for jobs created, industrial land prepared, business permits issued, and local investment facilitated.

Every institution must have a measurable role.

The Private Sector Must Feel the Difference

Ultimately, the success of the 24-Hour Economy will not be measured in government reports but in the experience of businesses.

Can a factory operate multiple shifts without power interruptions?

Can a farmer access processing facilities and markets?

Can an exporter move goods efficiently?

Can an SME obtain affordable financing?

Can a young entrepreneur start and scale a business without unnecessary bureaucracy?

These are the questions that matter.

The private sector must feel a visible improvement in the operating environment.

Building on the Foundation Already Created

The Bank of Ghana and the Ministry of Finance have already done much of the heavy lifting required to stabilize the economy.

The foundation is stronger than it was just a few years ago.

The cedi is more stable.

Inflation is moderating.

Investor confidence is improving.

The fiscal outlook is strengthening.

These gains must now be protected and amplified through growth-oriented policies.

The 24-Hour Economy offers the opportunity to transform economic stability into economic expansion.

But success will require discipline, coordination, and accountability across the entire public sector.

A National Scorecard for Growth

President Mahama should establish a national 24-Hour Economy Performance Dashboard monitored directly by the Presidency.

Every ministry, agency, district assembly, regulator, utility, and state-owned enterprise should submit quarterly KPI reports linked to national productivity targets.

Institutions that perform should be recognized and rewarded.

Institutions that fail to support the programme should be identified and assisted to improve.

Transparency will create urgency.

Urgency will create action.

Action will create results.

The Time for Delivery Has Arrived

Ghana has spent years fighting for economic stability.

The nation cannot afford to stop there.

The challenge now is to create jobs, grow industries, increase exports, strengthen local enterprises, and unlock opportunities for millions of young people.

The foundation has been laid.

The economy is becoming more stable.

The time for preparation is over.

The time for delivery has arrived.

President Mahama must therefore demand quarterly accountability from every institution because the success of Ghana’s 24-Hour Economy will depend not only on the strength of the policy itself, but on the readiness, commitment, and performance of the institutions responsible for delivering it.

History rarely remembers governments for the policies they announced. It remembers them for the results they delivered.

Ghana has won the battle for stability. The greater battle now is for productivity, jobs and shared prosperity. The success of the 24-Hour Economy will not be determined by promises made at launch ceremonies, but by measurable outcomes delivered in factories, farms, ports, offices and communities across the country.

If every institution is held accountable every quarter, urgency will replace complacency, performance will replace bureaucracy, and results will replace rhetoric.

Because economies do not grow because governments make declarations

 They grow because institutions deliver.

And history will judge this era not by the ambition of its vision, but by the discipline with which that vision was executed.

Abronye DC’s bail restored after surrendering passport to court https://www.adomonline.com/abronye-dcs-bail-restored-after-surrendering-passport-to-court/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 13:09:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670503 An Accra Circuit Court has restored the bail conditions of NPP Bono Regional Chairman Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, after he complied with a directive to surrender his passport.

The court had on June 4, 2026, remanded Abronye in police custody for failing to hand over his passport as required under his bail conditions in an ongoing criminal case.

During proceedings on Monday, June 8, counsel for the accused, Daniel Martey Addo, informed the court that all bail conditions had been met.

The registrar confirmed that the passports had been deposited on the morning of Friday, June 5, 2026, and the court subsequently restored his bail.

The court, however, cautioned Abronye that any further violation of his bail terms would result in its revocation.

Abronye DC is facing a charge of false publication brought against him by the State. The High Court had granted him bail last month after he was remanded following his arraignment, with the passport surrender listed among the conditions attached.

Is Ashanti Region being punished? – Minority raises political bias concerns over delayed hospital operations https://www.adomonline.com/is-ashanti-region-being-punished-minority-raises-political-bias-concerns-over-delayed-hospital-operations/ Mon, 08 Jun 2026 07:21:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2670269 The Ranking Member of Parliament’s Health Committee, Dr Nana Ayew Afriye, has questioned whether political considerations are influencing delays in the full operationalisation of major health facilities in the Ashanti Region.

He argued that the government is focusing on suspending officials instead of addressing the root causes of the “No Bed Syndrome” at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

This comes as medical doctors at KATH in Kumasi announced an indefinite withdrawal of services in protest against the Health Minister’s directive to suspend the hospital’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

The doctors say the minister’s decision, which directed the hospital’s Board to suspend the CEO for two weeks, is unjustified and undermines efforts to safeguard patient care. They took the decision following an emergency meeting on Friday, June 5, 2026.

In a statement, the Minority Caucus described the suspension as “unfortunate, reactionary, and failing to address the underlying structural failures confronting Ghana’s health sector.”

Dr Ayew Afriye argued that while every preventable death must be investigated, blaming a single hospital administrator ignores long-standing systemic challenges within the health sector.

He said the pressure on KATH is largely due to delays in bringing key health infrastructure projects into full operation, including the 500-bed Afari Military Hospital and the 250-bed Ashanti Regional Hospital, which were intended to ease congestion at KATH.

“It is therefore difficult to understand why a government that inherited these critical facilities would choose to suspend a hospital CEO rather than accelerate the full operationalisation of these hospitals and strengthen referral arrangements,” he stated.

The lawmaker noted that the government’s own 2026 Budget acknowledges that the Sewua Hospital remains among key health infrastructure projects requiring urgent attention.

He questioned whether political considerations were influencing the delay in completing such projects.

“Is the government’s failure to fully operationalise these hospitals due to political considerations?” he asked.

“Many Ghanaians are beginning to wonder whether the apparent lack of urgency in bringing critical facilities such as the Sewua Hospital into full operation is influenced by the fact that the Ashanti Region is not considered a major electoral stronghold of the governing NDC,” he added.

Dr Ayew Afriye called on government to provide clear answers and ensure that access to healthcare is not influenced by partisan considerations.

He also referenced the 100-bed Trede District Hospital and the 100-bed Kokoben-Oforikrom District Hospital, both commissioned in 2024, noting that they were intended to reduce pressure on KATH but remain largely non-operational.

Despite significant public investment, he said KATH continues to face congestion, overstretched staff and severe bed shortages.

“It is therefore difficult to understand how government can justify suspending the CEO of KATH for challenges arising from excess demand when two fully completed 100-bed hospitals, specifically built to absorb that demand, remain unable to provide the services for which they were constructed,” he said.

Dr Ayew Afriye maintained that the “No Bed Syndrome” is fundamentally a capacity, infrastructure, referral and resource allocation issue rather than a leadership problem at KATH.

“Punishing one hospital administrator may create headlines, but it will not create additional beds, equip emergency wards, recruit specialist staff, or decongest referral centres,” he stated.

He called for the reinstatement of the KATH CEO, urgent operationalisation of completed hospitals in the Ashanti Region, and broader stakeholder consultation in addressing the crisis.

“The health sector requires solutions, not scapegoats,” he added, stressing that while the suspension may align with a political narrative, it does little to resolve the deeper challenges facing healthcare delivery in Ghana.

NDC dismisses reports of cabinet reshuffle, urges public to verify information https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-dismisses-reports-of-cabinet-reshuffle-urges-public-to-verify-information/ Sat, 06 Jun 2026 16:12:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669889 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and other platforms claiming that the government has undertaken a cabinet reshuffle, describing the information as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on June 6, the party urged the public to disregard the reports and refrain from sharing unverified information.

According to the NDC, the claims form part of deliberate attempts to spread misinformation and create unnecessary confusion among the public.

“As we all strive to curb the menace of deliberate misinformation, some individuals will stop at nothing to poison the atmosphere,” the statement said.

The party stressed that any official communication regarding government decisions should be verified through authorised channels before being circulated.

It noted that Felix Kwakye Ofosu remains the official spokesperson for the administration and should be the primary source of information on matters relating to government announcements.

“The official spokesperson for this administration is Felix Kwakye Ofosu. Kindly verify any such information through his official channels before sharing it,” the statement urged.

The NDC further cautioned the public to be responsible in their use of social media and other communication platforms, warning that the Cyber Security Act provides sanctions for the dissemination of false information.

“The Cyber Security Act can have serious implications, so let us all be mindful and responsible in our communication,” the statement added.

Focus on performance, not political ambitions — Mussa Dankwah tells Ministers https://www.adomonline.com/focus-on-performance-not-political-ambitions-mussa-dankwah-tells-ministers/ Sat, 06 Jun 2026 09:46:05 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669811 The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Mussa Dankwah, has urged government ministers to remain focused on delivering results in their respective portfolios rather than being distracted by political ambitions.

His comments come amid a public disagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) over claims regarding the release of more than GH¢1.6 billion for agricultural programmes this year, with both sides presenting conflicting figures on budget allocations.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Friday, June 5, 2026, Mr. Dankwah said ministers must prioritise performance, stressing that the success of individual appointees is directly tied to the performance of the government as a whole.

“You know that your success is hinged on the performance of your government. And if that is the case, then I expect every minister to focus on performance,” he said.

He added that where challenges arise within ministries, they should be addressed internally through cabinet discussions rather than being played out publicly.

“If you feel there are maybe challenges to your ministry, I think that’s for me an issue that I should be talking about. They can discuss it among themselves as a cabinet and see how best to resolve those issues,” he noted.

Mr. Dankwah acknowledged that political ambitions among public officials are inevitable but cautioned that such aspirations should not overshadow governance responsibilities.

“Yes, ambitions are there. And somebody may think that somebody may try to scupper his ambition and they have the right to raise red flags,” he said.

His remarks come amid growing speculation about potential contenders in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearership race ahead of the next electoral cycle.

He noted that while Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson enjoys strong support among the general public, the dynamics differ among party delegates, who ultimately decide the flagbearer.

“Now, if you look at the public, the general public, as to who they prefer to lead NDC, it is Ato Forson on 32 per cent, Asiedu Nketiah on 25 per cent, Haruna Iddrisu on 23 per cent, Prof Jane Naana on 14 per cent, and others on 5 per cent,” he said.

“The public doesn’t vote to elect NDC flagbearers. When it comes to the delegates, Ato Forson is not leading. The man who leads is General Mosquito, 29 per cent. Ato Forson is 19 per cent. Haruna is 11 per cent.”

He further advised that internal political activities and succession discussions within government should be guided by clear rules to avoid unnecessary tension.

“There should be some guidelines,” he said. “There’s nothing wrong with people doing exploratory studies or research to find out their chances. That is not campaigning. That’s about fact-finding and assessing viability.”

He added that the current tensions between the Finance and Agriculture ministries reflect bureaucratic and procedural issues that can be resolved within established administrative structures.

‘The power struggle in Mahama’s gov’t should stop’ — Haruna Mohammed https://www.adomonline.com/the-power-struggle-in-mahamas-govt-should-stop-haruna-mohammed/ Sat, 06 Jun 2026 09:25:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669804 The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, has expressed concern over the reported tensions between Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku, warning that the disagreement could undermine governance and affect Ghana’s agricultural sector.

Speaking on Citi FM, on Friday, June 5, Haruna Mohammed described the reported friction between the two ministers as troubling and urged both sides to put an end to what he termed a power struggle.

According to him, the dispute goes beyond the individuals involved and has the potential to weaken public confidence in government institutions and the country’s agricultural system.

“I’m worried as a Ghanaian, a farmer and also as a politician. Because this goes further to affect the very foundation of our agricultural system. It also affects the trust system. It also affects the power system within the governance state. I believe that what is happening now is very worrying,” he said.

Haruna Mohammed further suggested that resources intended for national development should not be used as instruments in political or administrative disagreements.

“If you have resources with me, I will sit on them and paint a picture that you refused to perform, while you have it,” he stated.

He called on all parties involved to resolve their differences and ensure a level playing field to promote effective governance and service delivery.

“The power struggle should stop, the fight, propaganda should stop, let everybody have a level playing ground,” he added.

His comments come amid a public disagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) over claims regarding the release of funds for agricultural programmes in 2026.

The Ministry of Finance maintains that it has released more than GH¢1.6 billion to MoFA, representing about 85 per cent of the ministry’s budget allocation for Goods and Services and Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) this year.

According to the ministry, releases for Goods and Services have reached 94.73 per cent, while CAPEX disbursements stand at 74.66 per cent, which it says demonstrates strong budget execution.

The ministry also explained that, with the exception of funding for the National Food Buffer Stock Company, all releases were initiated by MoFA through the Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and were supported by the necessary approval processes and documentation.

It argued that the procedure reflects standard public financial management practices applied across all ministries, departments and agencies.

However, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture has challenged the figures, describing them as inconsistent with official budget execution records issued by the Finance Ministry itself.

The disagreement has since sparked public debate over funding for the agricultural sector and the relationship between the two ministries.

Speaking amid renewed national debate over the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, Mr. Jinapor alleged that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has departed from its earlier commitment to support the bill in the form originally approved by the 8th Parliament.

According to him, Parliament successfully passed the anti-LGBTQ bill in 2024, but the legislation could not receive presidential assent due to legal challenges pending before the Supreme Court.

He contends that the NDC had publicly indicated its readiness to support and sign the bill if elected to government.

However, Mr. Jinapor argues that following the reintroduction of the bill in 2025, the governing majority opted not to preserve the original text.

Instead, he says, Parliament approved as many as 31 amendments before passing the revised bill on May 29, 2026.

“The amendments have substantially altered the character of the bill and reduced its effectiveness,” he said, adding that “What has emerged is markedly different from the legislation passed in 2024.

A central concern raised by the Damongo MP relates to changes made to provisions governing the promotion and advocacy of LGBTQ activities.

He argues that the amended version creates exemptions for a broad range of entities, including government institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), development partners, academic institutions, and other organisations involved in health-related programmes.

According to Mr. Jinapor, such exemptions could create avenues through which LGBTQ advocacy and related activities may continue under the umbrella of public health initiatives.

He further criticised the introduction of a clause stating that nothing in the Act should prevent or limit the lawful duties or functions of an institution.

In his view, the provision could provide legal cover for organisations whose activities might otherwise fall within the scope of the legislation.

“These amendments undermine the core objective of the bill, which is to prohibit LGBTQ activities, advocacy, and the promotion of what many Ghanaians regard as traditional family values,” he asserted.

Mr. Jinapor also referenced previous remarks allegedly made by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga during parliamentary proceedings, claiming they reflected a softer approach toward aspects of LGBTQ-related advocacy.

He argued that such developments reinforce concerns that the amended bill no longer reflects the intent of the original legislation.

The Damongo MP maintains that the most appropriate course of action is for government to facilitate the passage and presidential assent of the original 2024 bill without modification.

“The government should assent to the 2024 bill as passed, or reintroduce and pass the same bill verbatim for assent by the President,” he stated. “It is as simple as that.”

The anti-LGBTQ bill remains one of the most contentious issues in Ghana’s political and social discourse, drawing strong opinions from religious groups, traditional leaders, civil society organisations, human rights advocates, and international stakeholders.

While supporters argue that the legislation protects Ghanaian cultural and family values, critics contend that it raises significant constitutional and human rights concerns.

President Mahama only recently pointed to substantial work needing to be cleared to bring the bill to finality, including the need for further consultations and the possible referral of the bill to the Counsel of State for advise pending his assent.

NPP demands clarity over “Bill is dead” UK remarks by Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/npp-demands-clarity-over-bill-is-dead-uk-remarks-by-mahama/ Fri, 05 Jun 2026 10:26:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669565 A strong claim contained in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus’s June 4 statement has sparked political debate, suggesting that President John Dramani Mahama, during engagements in London this week, may have signalled to the British government that Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ+ Bill is not being treated as an immediate legislative priority.

The Minority argues that this position, if accurate, would contrast sharply with expectations built during the 2024 election campaign.

The statement referenced a public engagement at Chatham House, the London-based international affairs institute, where President Mahama reportedly suggested that his administration is not in a rush to have the Bill enacted.

More significantly, the Minority claims that “certain assurances” were given by the President to the British Prime Minister at 10 Downing Street indicating that the Bill remains far from becoming law.

“We have further been reliably informed that certain assurances were given by the President to the British Prime Minister at No. 10 Downing Street that the Bill remains far from becoming law,” the statement said. “If accurate, such assurances would represent a remarkable departure from the urgency with which the NDC pursued this matter while in opposition.”

The implications of the claim, if verified, would be far-reaching, suggesting that the President may have made private commitments to a foreign government on a sensitive domestic legislative issue without public disclosure.

The NPP, however, has not presented the allegation as confirmed fact, noting that it is based on “reliable information.” The Minority argues that the pattern of developments — including amendments, procedural disputes, and recent remarks in London — points to a broader shift in the government’s approach to the Bill.

The Minority is therefore calling on the Mahama administration to clarify its position: whether the President intends to assent to the Bill or not, and whether any assurances were indeed given to foreign governments regarding its fate.

The NPP insists the issue is not solely about LGBTQ+ legislation, but about transparency in governance and whether commitments made to the electorate are being honoured after assuming office.

NPP stands firm: Pass the original 2024 bill — No compromises as Minority rejects amended version https://www.adomonline.com/npp-stands-firm-pass-the-original-2024-bill-no-compromises-as-minority-rejects-amended-version/ Fri, 05 Jun 2026 10:18:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669559 Amid confusion over parliamentary quorum disputes, conflicting statements within the ruling party, and allegations of private diplomatic assurances given on foreign soil, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus has taken a firm position: the original Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, as passed by the 8th Parliament in 2024, must be restored and transmitted to President John Dramani Mahama for assent without modification.

In a statement issued on June 4, 2026, the Minority Caucus insisted that the original text be maintained.

“The Minority Caucus holds that the Bill passed in 2024 by the 8th Parliament, which President John Dramani Mahama pledged to assent to, must be passed in its original state and transmitted for presidential assent. That is the aspiration of the overwhelming majority of Ghanaians,” the statement said.

Signed by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the statement is notable for its firm and unambiguous tone. Unlike typical political communications that allow room for negotiation, this position leaves no ambiguity: the NPP is demanding the original 2024 version without amendments.

The Minority argues that its position is grounded in democratic legitimacy. It notes that the then-opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) made the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill a key campaign promise in the 2024 elections, arguing that the previous government had failed to assent to legislation supported by many Ghanaians.

The NPP contends that the NDC’s electoral victory now places an obligation on the governing party to honour the same Bill it campaigned on, rather than present a revised version.

According to the Minority, insisting on the original text ensures consistency and prevents what it describes as a departure from the mandate given by the electorate.

The statement also suggests that the NPP’s position is aimed at ensuring accountability in political promises, stressing that electoral commitments must be honoured once power is attained.

For the Minority, the issue goes beyond legislation. It is, in their view, a test of whether political promises in Ghana carry weight and whether parties can abandon campaign positions after securing power.

Elected MMDCEs risk development paralysis – ADC https://www.adomonline.com/elected-mmdces-risk-development-paralysis-adc/ Fri, 05 Jun 2026 08:24:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669457 The Africa Development Council (ADC) has opposed proposals to elect Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), arguing that Ghana’s unitary system requires presidential appointees at the district level to ensure policy coherence and national unity.

The position follows Cabinet’s approval of reforms that would allow MMDCEs to be elected on a non-partisan basis instead of being appointed by the President.

Dr Gameli Kewuribe Hoedoafia, Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, recently disclosed that the proposed reforms seek to amend Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution, which currently empowers the President to appoint MMDCEs subject to approval by two-thirds of Assembly Members present and voting.

In a statement jointly signed by Dr Bright Atsu Sogbey, President of the ADC, and Michael Ackumey, Scribe of the ADC Secretariat, the Council said “every district must have the President’s choice represented in the persons of MMDCEs.”

It described the proposal to elect MMDCEs as “counterproductive” to development.

The ADC argued that Ghana operates a unitary system where authority flows from the central government to local units, unlike federal states with autonomous regions. It added that since the President is elected to implement a national agenda, MMDCEs must serve as direct links between the Presidency and district assemblies.

“MMDCEs translate national priorities into district-level action. Electing them risks creating a parallel mandate that could clash with the President’s development agenda,” it stated.

The Council further warned that elected MMDCEs, who derive authority directly from voters, could belong to different political parties and pursue policies inconsistent with national programmes, creating potential conflict.

“In situations where disagreements arise between the President and an elected MMDCE, governance at the district level may become paralysed,” it cautioned, adding that such standoffs could delay government projects and disrupt policies on education, healthcare, infrastructure, sanitation and job creation, while turning districts into “battlegrounds for political rivalry rather than centres of development.”

The ADC also noted that unlike appointed officials who can be removed for non-performance, elected MMDCEs would enjoy security of tenure, potentially limiting the President’s ability to enforce accountability and leading to administrative deadlock.

On cost implications, the Council argued that conducting elections across all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies would require significant public expenditure on logistics, security and voter education. It suggested that such funds could instead be redirected to agriculture.

“At a time when Ghana faces numerous developmental challenges and competing demands on public resources, it is prudent to carefully assess whether such expenditure represents the best use of national funds,” the statement said.

The ADC proposed an “Agriculture Mechanisation Initiative” across all districts, using the funds earmarked for MMDCE elections to invest in modern equipment, irrigation systems, storage facilities and farmer support programmes to boost productivity, reduce post-harvest losses, create jobs and enhance food security.

The Council stressed that while democratic participation is important, governance structures must ultimately advance national development.

“A system that risks creating conflict between the central government and district administrations may undermine rather than strengthen development efforts,” it said, maintaining that retaining the appointment of MMDCEs remains the most practical and development-oriented option for Ghana.

NAPO urges Parliament to reconsider Anti-LGBTQ Bill amid controversy https://www.adomonline.com/napo-urges-parliament-to-reconsider-anti-lgbtq-bill-amid-controversy/ Fri, 05 Jun 2026 07:39:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669432 Dr Matthew Opoku-Prempeh, the 2024 Vice-Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and former Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, has called on Parliament to re-engage and reconsider the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025.

The call follows controversy surrounding the Bill’s recent passage.

He said Parliament should revisit the legislation to build broader consensus and address concerns raised by the leadership of the House over the circumstances under which it was passed.

Speaking to journalists after an engagement with students of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana under the “Time with the Politician” series, Dr Opoku-Prempeh said the matter required careful reconsideration.

“Parliament should re-engage itself on the bill,” he said when asked about the way forward.

Pressed further on what he meant by reconsideration, he explained: “Parliament should re-engage for the consideration of the bill. The passage is the last part of the consideration of the bill.”

Dr Opoku-Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, said he was surprised by developments surrounding the legislation and concerns publicly expressed by both President John Dramani Mahama and Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin.

“The way the President and the Speaker spoke out showed that something really untoward had happened, and that is why the Speaker hinted at reconsideration of the bill,” he said.

He argued that issues such as LGBTQ+ rights require broad consensus and careful parliamentary engagement.

“If the Speaker said he was not aware that it was going to end with the bill on that day, and a matter such as LGBTQ+ needs a broader consensus, then we should take a cue,” he stated.

The comments come days after Parliament passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, which prescribes sanctions for persons who engage in or promote LGBTQ+ activities.

However, Speaker Bagbin has since directed Parliament to reconsider the Bill after concerns were raised over procedural issues surrounding its passage.

The Speaker said the integrity of Parliament and public confidence in its legislative processes must be upheld, prompting renewed debate over the future of the legislation.

Dr Opoku-Prempeh also used the forum to stress the importance of leadership and political education, noting that the success of governments depends not only on presidents but also on the quality of ministers and public officials who support them.

He encouraged political actors and national leaders to document their experiences through books and memoirs to preserve Ghana’s political history for future generations.

The event was organised by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana in collaboration with the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ghana to give students the opportunity to interact with experienced political leaders and gain practical insights into governance and public service.

The Country Representative of KAS Ghana, Anna Wasserfall, said the programme seeks to bridge the gap between political theory and practice by exposing students to real-life governance experience.

She urged students to actively participate in democratic processes and engage critically with public affairs.

My remarks about Kwame Nkrumah were twisted for political gain – Napo https://www.adomonline.com/my-remarks-about-kwame-nkrumah-were-twisted-for-political-gain-napo/ Thu, 04 Jun 2026 07:27:39 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2669030 Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has said the controversy surrounding his comments about Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, during the 2024 election campaign was the result of deliberate distortions by political opponents.

According to Dr. Opoku Prempeh, widely known as NAPO, his remarks were taken out of context and used to create a negative perception of him in the public space.

Speaking at the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana on his experience as running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2024 elections, he said the backlash did not come as a surprise, describing it as one of the realities of political communication.

He argued that politicians often have their statements reinterpreted by opponents seeking to advance their own narratives.

“When I talked about Nkrumah, most of the reportage was twisted. I live in a political space, and when people want to twist your words, they will always do. But I can assure you that it will only last a short time,” he said.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh also rejected claims that he is arrogant, insisting that the perception was manufactured by critics rather than based on personal interactions.

He disclosed that before accepting the role of running mate, he anticipated some of the criticism that could be directed at him and expected political opponents to attach negative labels to his personality.

“Before I started this running mate, nobody ever went on air and said I was arrogant. But they did an analysis and tagged me as such. Every radio commentator said the same thing, but none of them had even met me,” he said.

Despite the criticism he faced during the campaign, the former Energy Minister said he remains unfazed by such attacks, arguing that attempts to misrepresent public figures are often exposed over time.

“I don’t let it bother me because those who do that are easily found,” he added.

The comments relate to remarks he made at his unveiling in Kumasi on June 9, 2024, when he stated that no president in Ghana’s history, including Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, had outperformed former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

The statement sparked widespread criticism, with many Ghanaians demanding an apology and a retraction.

Dr. Opoku Prempeh later apologised for the comments and expressed regret over the controversy they generated.

NDC elder rejects claims of meeting Mahama over third-term agenda https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-elder-rejects-claims-of-meeting-mahama-over-third-term-agenda/ Thu, 04 Jun 2026 06:41:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668987 A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders, Christine Amoako-Nuamah, has dismissed reports that the council held discussions with President John Dramani Mahama about an alleged attempt to seek a third presidential term.

She stated that she had no knowledge of any such engagement, stressing that claims of a meeting between the Council of Elders and the President on the matter were unfounded.

“I am not aware of any such meeting,” she said when asked whether the council had met President Mahama over a reported third-term agenda.

Dr Amoako-Nuamah explained that the Council of Elders primarily serves as an advisory body within the party and is not mandated to dictate decisions to party leaders or prevent members from pursuing political ambitions.

According to her, the role of elders is to offer guidance and share their experience when circumstances require it.

She argued that elders must be prepared to speak up when issues arise within the party, noting that remaining silent in difficult situations would undermine their responsibility as senior members.

“If you are home and something is going wrong and you cannot speak about it, then what kind of elder are you?” she questioned.

Speaking on Citi FM on Wednesday, June 3, Dr Amoako-Nuamah further emphasised that the council does not exist to obstruct anyone’s political aspirations, including ambitions to contest for the presidency.

Rather, she said, its members draw on years of political experience to provide counsel and direction where necessary.

“Nobody is trying to stop anybody, but we are a very experienced group of people. People who have been around for quite some time,” she added.

I’m the right person for Nkwanta South NPP Secretary position – Damba Kwesi https://www.adomonline.com/im-the-right-person-for-nkwanta-south-npp-secretary-position-damba-kwesi/ Wed, 03 Jun 2026 09:32:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668562 Aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Secretary for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Damba Kwesi, has declared his intention to contest for the position, saying he is the right person to lead the party’s administrative and grassroots mobilisation efforts in the constituency.

In an interview with Adom News, Mr Kwesi said the NPP, as an opposition party, needs experienced and committed leadership at the constituency level to strengthen its structures, energise supporters, and make the party more attractive to voters as it works to recapture political power in 2028.

According to him, the role of constituency secretary is crucial to the party’s performance, particularly in organising activities, coordinating communication, and ensuring effective engagement with polling station executives and party members across the constituency.

He therefore urged delegates to carefully consider his experience and vision, and to give him the mandate to serve as the next NPP Constituency Secretary for Nkwanta South.

The aspiring secretary also took a swipe at the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the government under President John Mahama as “scammers” and alleging that it has failed to meet the expectations of Ghanaians.

He appealed to party delegates to support his bid, insisting that with strong constituency leadership, the NPP can rebuild its momentum in Nkwanta South and improve its electoral fortunes in future elections.

We want the same bill passed and assented to –Ntim Fordjour on Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill https://www.adomonline.com/we-want-the-same-bill-passed-and-assented-to-ntim-fordjour-on-anti-lgbtq-bill/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 15:55:46 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668386 The Assin South Member of Parliament, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, has called for the swift assent of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, arguing that delays in its implementation are unnecessary and contrary to public expectation.

Speaking in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, he said Ghanaians expect laws passed by Parliament to be implemented without further delays or alterations.

“Ghanaians just don’t want any law that has been passed to be changed or delayed unnecessarily. They want what Parliament has already approved to be respected,” he said.

He argued that the original intent of the legislation, which was passed in 2024, should be maintained and promptly assented to, adding that the current approach by government risks undermining its purpose.

According to him, there had been expectations that the then-opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) would support the speedy assent of the bill once in government.

“When the bill was passed in 2024 and it became controversial, the NDC in opposition indicated that they would sign it when they came to power. Now that they are in government, they are saying something different, and we don’t think that is the best approach,” he stated.

Mr. Fordjour further insisted that Parliament could have quickly re-passed the original bill if necessary, instead of what he described as attempts to alter its intent.

“We are only asking that they expedite the assent of the same bill that was passed. If there were concerns, Parliament could have addressed them in a day using the same original framework,” he added.

His comments come amid ongoing national debate and legal scrutiny surrounding the legislative process of the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, including questions about procedural compliance during its passage.

On June 1, President John Dramani Mahama indicated that the bill would require further review before it could be signed into law, noting that procedural concerns mean “there’s still quite a while to go” before any final decision is made.

Inusah Fuseini defends NDC Council of Elders’ intervention to safeguard party unity https://www.adomonline.com/inusah-fuseini-defends-ndc-council-of-elders-intervention-to-safeguard-party-unity/ Tue, 02 Jun 2026 06:27:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2668087 Former Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Inusah Fuseini, has defended the recent involvement of the NDC Council of Elders in internal party matters, stressing that the move is necessary to maintain discipline and keep the party focused on governance.

His comes after the NDC Council of Elders cracked the whip on internal factionalism, issuing a stern, uncompromising warning to party members against engaging in premature presidential campaign activities ahead of the next general election.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Monday, June 1, he explained that the Council of Elders plays a crucial role in the party’s structure, serving as a stabilising force to ensure members remain aligned with the party’s mandate and the expectations of the electorate.

“The party has institutions, and the institution of the Council of Elders is very important in the organisation of the party. It is a recognition of the fact that there are people who would sit up there and watch what happens in the party and are able to bring the members of the party into line and ensure that the ultimate will of the people who have given the party the mandate to lead the country is realised,” he stated.

According to him, the Council’s concerns should be understood in the context of protecting the government’s focus, warning that early internal positioning and leadership ambitions could derail national priorities.

“This is a very important decision made by the Council of Elders,” he noted, adding that the intervention is driven by concern over discipline within the party.

Mr Fuseini further argued that internal political maneuvering, if not controlled, could distract the administration from delivering on its promises to the people.

“The Council of Elders are worried and concerned, and I would not be surprised if President Mahama is also worried and concerned,” he said.

“He’s been given a four-year mandate to rule this country and to deliver on the manifesto promise we took to the people. If one and a half years into his administration, people are already positioning themselves as a feeder, it could bring about distraction and indiscipline in the pursuit of the manifesto objectives of the party.”

He warned that without firm internal discipline, the party’s broader national agenda could be undermined. “The Council of Elders is beginning to see that if they don’t whip people into line, our march towards resetting Ghana will be derailed,” he said.

Upcoming NPP Primary: Asante Akyem South Youth urge Eric Amofa to contest https://www.adomonline.com/upcoming-npp-primary-asante-akyem-south-youth-urge-eric-amofa-to-contest/ Mon, 01 Jun 2026 15:15:11 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667938 A coalition of youth groups in the Asante Akyem South Constituency has urged NPP stalwart Eric Amofa to contest the NPP parliamentary primary.

A statement signed by the group’s spokesperson, Dr. Clement Ofosuhene, described Mr. Amofa as a visionary and youth-focused leader.

To them, their choice for parliamentary candidate has demonstrated “a strong passion for human empowerment, education, and community development.”

According to the statement, Mr. Amofa’s devotion of resources to training the youth in various skills is commendable.

“Mr. Eric Amofa, Founder and CEO of the EKAJ Educational Fund, has consistently championed education and youth development through practical interventions that improve livelihoods and expand opportunities for young people,” the statement read.

According to the release, the initiative to train the youth in technical and vocational skills is giving a lifeline to young people in the area.

In the statement, the youth groups expressed confidence that his leadership would bring renewed energy, progress, and opportunity to the constituency.

They also pledged to support his political ambition and mobilise backing across Asante Akyem South if he accepts the call to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries.

About EKAJ Foundation

Minority demands return of original anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, rejects ‘dangerous dilutions’ https://www.adomonline.com/minority-demands-return-of-original-anti-lgbtq-bill-rejects-dangerous-dilutions/ Mon, 01 Jun 2026 12:56:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667879 The Minority in Parliament has called for the reinstatement of the original Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, arguing that recent amendments have significantly weakened its provisions and undermined its intended purpose.

The caucus described the changes to the legislation as “dangerous dilutions,” insisting that Parliament should revert to the version passed in 2024.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, June 1, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who sponsored the Bill, said the amendments have stripped it of its effectiveness and deterrent power.

According to him, the revised Bill no longer reflects the original intentions of lawmakers and lacks the stronger enforcement measures contained in the earlier version.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour further argued that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) had previously supported the Bill in its original form and publicly pledged to ensure its passage without major changes.

He alleged that the amendments represent a departure from that position and accused the government of failing to meet public expectations.

“These are dangerous dilutions we should not allow to go like that. We want the old Bill to come back. The old Bill is what has the teeth, the deterrence, and the teeth to bite,” he said.

Parliament on Friday, May 29, passed the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, with several amendments, reigniting political debate over its scope and implementation.

The amended version exempts legal practitioners from sanctions for providing legal representation or advice to persons identified as LGBTQ+. Journalists and media organisations reporting on LGBTQ+ issues as part of their professional duties are also protected under the revised law.

Additionally, medical professionals offering surgical, psychological, counselling, or related healthcare services are exempt from punishment under the Bill.

The Minority, however, maintains that these exemptions and other amendments substantially alter the intent of the original legislation and has renewed calls for its full restoration.

We must build bridges to the future, not the past – Afoko rallies NPP https://www.adomonline.com/we-must-build-bridges-to-the-future-not-the-past-afoko-rallies-npp/ Mon, 01 Jun 2026 07:29:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667728 Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Awentami Paul Afoko, has called on party members, executives, and patrons to move beyond old divisions and focus on building a political culture that delivers tangible progress.

Speaking in separate meetings with Regional Executives, the Council of Elders, and Patrons of the NPP in the Western North, Ahafo, Bono and Bono East Regions as part of his nationwide consultative engagements, Afoko stressed that the party should not be held back by individuals fixated on settling old scores rather than addressing current challenges.

“We must build bridges to the future, not the past,” he said. “If we keep looking backwards, we will miss the opportunities in front of us. The youth in this party, and many of us, do not want stories about who offended whom in the past or during 2024. They want the party they believed in back in power. Focus on unity and grassroots organising,” he added.

The consultative engagements focused on strengthening grassroots structures and encouraging greater participation from younger members.

Afoko urged members to avoid language and tactics that reopen past conflicts, stressing that such divisions would not serve the party’s interests as he promotes his 3R agenda—Reuniting, Rebuilding, and Recapturing power for the NPP in 2028.

“For years I chose to work quietly behind the scenes, supporting the NPP in private,” he said. “But recent developments have compelled me to step forward. We need to get our party back into winning ways, and that starts with unity of purpose.”

He reiterated that the coming period would test whether the party could mature politically or remain trapped in cycles of blame, expressing optimism that all supporters of the party would rally behind efforts to position Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the next President of Ghana.

“The future will not wait for us to finish fighting the past,” he said. “Let’s build the bridges now.”

The Western North tour forms part of Afoko’s wider outreach aimed at reconnecting with the base and repositioning the party’s message around development and inclusion ahead of the next election cycle.

Addressing a press conference in Mampong, one of the spokespersons for the group, Isaac Owusu Acheampong, alleged that the electoral process had been compromised by the use of an unapproved voter register, a lack of transparency, and what he described as an unexplained reduction in the number of polling stations scheduled for the rescheduled exercise.

“The way we do our politics, it builds up from the polling stations. From there, you go to the coordinators, then to the constituency, and upwards to the national level. But if you allow yourself to be cheated at the polling station level, that is the end of you,” he told journalists.

The polling station elections were halted on May 14 following disagreements over the voter register to be used and concerns raised by some party members about the conduct of the process.

According to Mr. Acheampong, the Asante Mampong Constituency has 145 polling stations, with each expected to elect seven executives. He stressed that polling station elections form the foundation of the party’s organisational structure and must therefore be conducted fairly and transparently.

“When you look at Mampong, we have 145 polling stations. You multiply by seven, you are talking about over a thousand people. And these are the very people who will elect MPs during the primaries,” he stated.

Concerns over voter register

A major source of contention, he said, is the voter register being used for the elections.

Mr. Acheampong alleged that constituency executives generated a new register in PDF format instead of relying on the party’s original register, adding that there were significant discrepancies between the two documents. He warned that some eligible members could be excluded if only the generated register is used.

He disclosed that meetings involving party stakeholders and security officials, including police commanders in the Ashanti North area, were held to resolve the impasse.

According to him, stakeholders agreed that both the original and generated registers should be used to enable verification where a member’s name is not found in one.

However, he alleged that the agreement was not fully implemented before the suspension of the elections.

Mr. Acheampong further claimed that some polling station elections held before the suspension were conducted without the original register, contrary to the agreed guidelines.

Questions over scope of May 31 elections

The group also raised concerns about reports that the rescheduled elections would be conducted in only about 70 polling stations out of 145.

According to Mr. Acheampong, only two polling stations had completed their elections before the suspension on May 14, leaving 143 outstanding.

“They have done two out of 145, and now they are saying they are going to do only 70. We have not done anything,” he said.

He questioned the basis for the decision and said party members had not received adequate explanations regarding the exclusion of the remaining polling stations.

Allegations of intimidation and lack of response

Mr. Acheampong also alleged that some members felt intimidated during internal electoral processes and claimed repeated petitions to constituency and regional executives had gone unanswered.

“We informed the executives and received no response. We wrote a first petition to the region—no response. A second—no response. A third—still no response,” he said.

Some members at the press conference also expressed frustration, warning that unresolved disputes could deepen internal divisions.

“We have seen that they just want to cheat us, and we will not sit down for that,” one member said.

Threat of boycott

Mr. Acheampong disclosed that many prospective contestants—estimated at over 1,000 across the constituency—had been advised by supporters not to participate in the elections until their concerns are addressed.

He suggested that some may boycott the exercise if issues relating to the voter register and procedures remain unresolved.

“We remain loyal to the NPP”

Despite their concerns, the group stressed that they remain loyal members of the NPP.

“We don’t have any other party. We are with the party,” Mr. Acheampong said.

Call for intervention

The group is calling on the national and regional leadership of the NPP to intervene and ensure the elections are conducted in line with party guidelines.

They argue that resolving the dispute will restore confidence, strengthen unity in the constituency, and prevent further tensions.

At the time of filing this report, constituency executives had not publicly responded to the allegations.

NDC Council of Elders orders halt to premature presidential campaigns https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-council-of-elders-orders-halt-to-premature-presidential-campaigns/ Sun, 31 May 2026 20:53:53 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667569 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Council of Elders has directed all party members and groups engaged in premature presidential campaign activities to stop immediately, warning that such actions risk undermining party unity and distracting the government from its national agenda.

The directive follows a meeting between the Council of Elders and President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the leader of the NDC, held on Friday, May 29, 2026.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the Council expressed concern over what it described as growing unease within the party and among the general public regarding reports of early presidential campaign activities by certain individuals and groups.

According to the Council, the NDC’s immediate priority should be supporting the government’s efforts to implement its “Resetting Agenda” and fulfil promises made to Ghanaians rather than engaging in internal political contests.

The Council stressed that the party is currently focused on governance and national development, urging members to channel their energy and resources into supporting the administration’s programmes and policies.

It further reminded members that the NDC Constitution clearly outlines the process and timeline for electing a presidential candidate.

Citing Article 42 of the party’s constitution, the Council noted that the date and venue for the election of a presidential candidate can only be determined by the National Executive Committee (NEC), and that such elections must take place at least 12 months before a national election when the party is in power.

The Council therefore emphasised that no individual, group or interest bloc has the authority to undertake or promote any form of presidential campaign until the appropriate constitutional processes have been activated and an official timetable announced by the NEC.

It consequently ordered all forms of campaigning, mobilisation, endorsements, publicity and related activities intended to advance the ambitions of prospective presidential candidates to cease immediately.

The Council also appealed to party members to remain united and focused on supporting the government to deliver on its mandate.

“The time for internal contests will come. For now, our collective responsibility is to serve the nation and successfully implement the mandate entrusted to us,” the statement said.

The intervention comes amid growing speculation and conversations within sections of the party about potential contenders for the NDC’s future presidential ticket, despite the absence of an official roadmap for presidential primaries.

NPP-USA rejects new internal election guidelines, sticks to branch constitution https://www.adomonline.com/npp-usa-rejects-new-internal-election-guidelines-sticks-to-branch-constitution/ Sun, 31 May 2026 14:39:31 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667559 The New Patriotic Party’s USA Branch (NPP-USA) has resolved to conduct its 2026 internal elections under its existing Branch Bylaws, postponing consideration of the party’s revised national election guidelines until its annual conference in July.

In a letter to the party Chairman, the Branch Secretary, Augustine Yao Agbenaza, said the decision was reached at an emergency virtual meeting of the Branch Executive Committee (BEC) held on May 27.

According to the branch, members voted 20 to 9 in favour of retaining the current NPP-USA Bylaws for the upcoming elections. Of the 36 members present, four abstained, and two did not respond.

The resolution means the branch will organise its 2026 elections in accordance with the bylaws last amended on March 7, 2021.

The branch also directed its secretariat to formally communicate the decision to the national leadership in Ghana in a manner it described as respectful and diplomatic, aimed at maintaining institutional harmony.

The vote followed discussions over a directive issued on April 8, 2026, by NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, instructing all external branches of the party to align their internal elections with revised guidelines approved by the National Executive Committee.

NPP-USA identified four major areas of conflict between its bylaws and the national guidelines.

The first relates to candidate eligibility. Under the branch’s bylaws, a member must have maintained four consecutive years of good standing at both branch and chapter levels before contesting a branch executive position.

The national guidelines, however, require two years of being “known and active.”

A second disagreement concerns voter eligibility. While the branch requires one year of good standing before a member can vote, the national guidelines stipulate two years of being “known and active.”

The third issue involves the mode of voting. NPP-USA bylaws mandate electronic voting before the delegates conference, whereas the national guidelines permit either in-person voting or the use of the party’s official electronic voting platform.

The final area of disagreement concerns the composition of the Elections Committee. The branch’s constitution provides for a five-member committee, while the national framework proposes a three-member body.

During deliberations, members advanced different views on the way forward. Some argued that the branch’s bylaws remain the supreme governing document and cannot be altered without following the amendment procedures outlined in its constitution. Others stressed the need to respect the national party’s authority while maintaining constructive engagement.

A third group proposed adopting provisions that do not conflict with the branch constitution and referring broader amendments to the annual conference.

The committee ultimately agreed that, where valid bylaws exist and have not been formally amended, they remain the governing framework for branch activities.

The branch said it remains open to harmonising its rules with the national guidelines but insisted that any amendments must follow the constitutional process, including prior notice to chapters and approval by at least two-thirds of delegates at conference.

The matter is expected to feature prominently at the NPP-USA Annual Branch Conference scheduled for July 24 to 26 in Massachusetts, where delegates will also consider possible amendments to the branch constitution.

President Mahama will not “play games” over Anti-LGBTQ Bill – Akwatia MP https://www.adomonline.com/president-mahama-will-not-play-games-over-anti-lgbtq-bill-akwatia-mp/ Sun, 31 May 2026 13:11:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667556 The Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Bernard Bediako, has voiced confidence that President John Dramani Mahama will give assent to the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2025, even in the event of fresh legal challenges against the legislation.

The controversial measure, widely referred to as the anti-LGBTQ+ bill, was passed by Parliament on Friday, 29 May.

It seeks to criminalise LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana and introduces amendments that exempt certain individuals and institutions from sanctions under its provisions. The newly passed legislative instrument awaits the president’s assent.

“He [President Mahama] will not play games with the people of Ghana. He will not, even if Senior [Manhyia South MP, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah] decides to go to court. I know that the very day President Mahama receives this, he would assent to this,” the MP said.

According to him, the bill’s passage now presents an opportunity for President Mahama to succeed where former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo was unable to. ““For me, we’ve come far. Now it’s a test case for President Mahama. What former President Akufo-Addo could not do, it is expected that President Mahama will do. He has assured us.”

“Let me put on record that it is now going to be fine-tuned. That is what happens. I mean, do the proper drafting before it’s presented to the President,” he added.

Background

The bill, formally titled the Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill, was presented again for second reading in the House on Thursday, marking the latest stage in its long and contentious journey through Parliament.

Originally introduced in June 2021 by a bipartisan group of Members of Parliament led by Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George, the proposed legislation seeks to criminalise same-sex sexual relations, LGBTQ advocacy, funding and related activities.

The bill underwent its first reading in August 2021 and was subsequently referred to Parliament’s Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee for scrutiny.

Between 2021 and 2022, the committee held extensive public hearings involving religious bodies, traditional authorities, legal experts, civil society organisations and human rights groups.

The hearings sparked widespread public debate, with supporters arguing that the bill was necessary to protect Ghanaian cultural and family values, while opponents described it as unconstitutional and discriminatory.

Western North NPP expresses concern over abandoned Sefwi Boako TVET project https://www.adomonline.com/western-north-npp-expresses-concern-over-abandoned-sefwi-boako-tvet-project/ Sat, 30 May 2026 15:29:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2667393 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Western North Region has expressed disappointment over what it describes as the neglect of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) projects, particularly the Sefwi Boako facility in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality.

According to the party, the project was initiated to enhance technical and vocational skills development among the youth and to create employment opportunities in the area. However, it says progress on the facility has stalled, leaving residents worried about its future.

Speaking to the media, the Regional Communications Director, Addo Harry, urged government to prioritise the completion of the TVET centre, arguing that the facility would play a key role in equipping young people with practical skills needed for national development.

The New Patriotic Party has also called on the Minister for Education to clarify his recent statement in Parliament suggesting that Sefwi Boako would receive a new TVET project.

According to the party, an existing TVET facility in the community is already under construction but has been abandoned. It says residents deserve clarity on whether government intends to complete the stalled project or replace it with a new one.

The NPP is therefore urging the minister to provide clear information on the status of the abandoned facility and outline government’s plans for technical education in Sefwi Boako.

You’re a true symbol of unity to the NPP – Afoko told https://www.adomonline.com/youre-a-true-symbol-of-unity-to-the-npp-afoko-told/ Fri, 29 May 2026 06:59:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666988 The hall at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regional secretariat at Damongo in the Savannah Region buzzed with more than politeness when chairman hopeful Awentami Paul Afoko walked in.

For the regional executives, Council of Elders and patrons gathered in the Savannah Regional capital, it felt like a moment of closure and a reset.

Afoko’s consultative engagement with the region quickly moved beyond standard political talk. What unfolded was a moment of reconciliation, recommitment and a sharpened focus on returning the NPP to power in 2028.

Those present said Mr Afoko’s return to contest the chairmanship position was timely. “You have become a symbol of unity for the NPP considering what you have gone through,” one regional executive told him.

“Your second coming is a blessing to the party,” another added.

For many in the room, Afoko’s journey—from serving as National Chairman between 2014 and 2015, stepping back from frontline politics, and now re-emerging with a structured plan—has become proof that the party can absorb internal storms and come back stronger.

That theme echoed throughout the meeting. “I am inspired to put certain things behind me,” a regional executive said, noting that Afoko’s calm persistence had shifted the mood in Savannah from lingering grievances to practical strategy.

Members said they now view him as a yardstick of patience, resilience and unity, given that he remained connected to the base even when he was out of the spotlight.

Afoko, speaking on his “3R” agenda—Reunite, Rebuild, Recapture—told the gathering that unity without a plan for power is empty.

He urged the region to use the current momentum to strengthen polling station structures, improve voter data, and begin mobilisation immediately rather than waiting for the election year.

“The NPP’s strength is that we absorb setbacks and return to fight smarter,” Afoko said.

“That’s how we can take back government in 2028, and it starts with discipline in regions like Savannah,” he stressed.

He further framed the 2028 mission as non-negotiable, aimed at reclaiming power from the NDC, restoring confidence in party structures, and ensuring no region feels sidelined.

As the engagement closed, handshakes turned into chants of support. The final words from the floor were simple and unanimous: “Wish you all the best.”

For Afoko, it was more than a courtesy—it was a renewed mandate to keep pushing until the NPP returns to power.

The Savannah stop adds to Afoko’s growing tour of regional engagements as he seeks to consolidate support for the national chairmanship race. With the 2028 election cycle approaching, his message in the north remains clear: rebuild from the base up, and do it together.

Dafeamekpor explains why he keeps family life private despite wife’s political career https://www.adomonline.com/dafeamekpor-explains-why-he-keeps-family-life-private-despite-wifes-political-career/ Thu, 28 May 2026 06:34:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666709 South Dayi Member of Parliament Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has explained why he has largely kept his marriage and family life out of the public domain, despite his wife also being actively involved in politics.

Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews PM Express, the Majority Chief Whip said he intentionally shields his family from the intense scrutiny and attacks associated with Ghana’s political space.

His comments follow widespread reactions on social media after he publicly celebrated his wife’s birthday in a post that unexpectedly went viral.

“I just wished my wife a simple birthday, and somehow this spiralled out of control,” he said during the interview.

Many social media users were surprised to learn that the outspoken National Democratic Congress (NDC) MP was married to a fellow politician and former parliamentary candidate, a relationship he had largely kept out of the public domain.

According to him, the decision was deliberate and informed by advice he received early in his political journey.

“In public service, part of your public life is ensuring that you insulate your family, your children and loved ones from the turbulence of national politics,” he said.

“You know, your children can get hurt, your family members can get hurt.”

Mr. Dafeamekpor said senior political figures, including former President Jerry John Rawlings, advised him to protect his family life from unnecessary public exposure.

He disclosed that he had previously deleted photos of his children from social media after friends and associates cautioned him about exposing them online.

“One of my adult sons today is 21 years old and a third-year Computer Engineering student at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,” he said while wishing him a happy birthday during the interview.

He added that although he occasionally posts birthday tributes to his wife, this year’s message attracted unusual attention because social media users connected it to an earlier birthday message she had posted for him.

“So somebody went back to connect the link,” he said.

The Majority Chief Whip described his wife as “hardworking”, “articulate”, “brilliant” and “smart”, adding that despite their political involvement, they prefer to maintain “an undisturbed domestic life.”

He stressed that public office holders do not always need to put every aspect of their private lives in the public domain.

“These are not things you deposit on billboards or run around with,” he stated.

Give credit to Akufo-Addo for starting E-Visa system — Minority tells gov’t https://www.adomonline.com/give-credit-to-akufo-addo-for-starting-e-visa-system-minority-tells-govt/ Tue, 26 May 2026 07:50:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2666106 The Minority in Parliament is urging government to acknowledge the role of the former New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration in laying the groundwork for Ghana’s electronic visa (e-Visa) application system, which was officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on Monday, May 25.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM, the Deputy Ranking Member on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, said the groundwork for the system dates back to 2020, when the Akufo-Addo-led government signed a technical support agreement with Swiss technology firm Orell Füssli to develop the e-visa infrastructure.

“That company has the equipment, the machines, the technology for building this e-visa system. That was how we began,” he said.

According to him, successive governments should build on existing national initiatives rather than present ongoing projects as entirely new.

He commended the current Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and government for rolling out the system, but insisted credit should also be given to the previous administration for starting the process.

“I have maintained and said that when you come and find something your predecessor has done which is good, you continue it. You do not discontinue it because someone started it.

“My only problem and sharp disagreement is when it comes to play or the impression is created as if it came from the blue, it came from the skies, nothing of this sort was existing, and it was not a build-upon,” he said.

The new platform enables foreign nationals who require visas to enter Ghana to apply online, eliminating the need for paper-based forms and reducing reliance on physical submission of documents through mail or courier services.

Let’s get the NPP back into winning ways – Afoko rallies minority MPs https://www.adomonline.com/lets-get-the-npp-back-into-winning-ways-afoko-rallies-minority-mps/ Mon, 25 May 2026 07:31:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665653 Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Paul Afoko, has urged the party’s Minority Caucus in Parliament to lead efforts to return the NPP to electoral victory.

Speaking at a closed-door meeting with the MPs, Afoko unveiled a new political strategy dubbed the ‘3R Agenda’, focused on Reuniting, Rebuilding, and Recapturing power for the party.

He described the initiative as a roadmap to restore unity, strengthen grassroots support, and position the NPP for future electoral success.

“For years, I chose to work quietly behind the scenes, supporting the NPP in private,” Afoko said. “But recent developments have compelled me to step forward. We need to get our party back into winning ways, and that starts with unity and purpose.”

Afoko stressed that Minority MPs have a critical role to play, both as lawmakers and as unifying figures within the party.

He warned that without a concerted effort to rebuild internal cohesion, the goal of returning to power would remain a mirage.

Drawing on his tenure as National Chairman, Afoko highlighted the NPP’s 2014 presidential primaries as a model of internal discipline and unity.

“We conducted primaries where every candidate accepted the outcome, and no one broke away to run independently,” he said. “Leaders like Sammy Awuku can attest to the level of organization and trust we had at the time.”

He noted that the party’s electoral base has eroded over the years, particularly during periods in government when internal competition for positions often breeds division.

“Historically, even in opposition, the NPP has outperformed the NDC in vote percentages,” Afoko said. “That tells us our base is strong, but it has weakened. The question now is: how do we win it back?”

According to Afoko, the answer lies in the 3R Agenda:

Reunite – Heal internal divisions and restore trust across factions.
Rebuild – Strengthen party structures from polling stations to the national level.
Recapture – Re-engage the base and present a credible, united front to Ghanaians.

Afoko appealed to party members to rally behind the vision, citing his track record as evidence of his ability to deliver results.

“My record speaks for itself. I am result-oriented, and with collective support from the party, we can achieve this,” he said.

He concluded by calling on the NPP to move past internal rivalries and focus on the bigger goal: winning the trust of Ghanaians and returning to government to deliver development.

Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’ is the proper one, not the ‘curtain raiser one’ – Haruna Iddrisu https://www.adomonline.com/mahamas-thank-you-tour-is-the-proper-one-not-the-curtain-raiser-one-haruna-iddrisu/ Sat, 23 May 2026 11:10:00 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2665260 Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has taken what many see as a subtle swipe at Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, describing President John Dramani Mahama’s post-election outreach as the “proper” thank-you tour of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speaking in Sawla in the Savannah Region on Friday, May 22, Mr. Iddrisu appeared to distinguish President Mahama’s tour from another recent outreach initiative by the party chairman, insisting that Mahama’s was the official appreciation tour.

“I recall when President Mahama came for his thank you tour — not the other thank you tour — the proper thank you tour of President Mahama as President and flagbearer,” he said.

In comments already stirring political debate within the governing party, he added: “What cannot be said? We can say it. A proper thank you tour of President Mahama, not the curtain-raiser one.”

The remarks came on the same day Mr. Asiedu Nketiah defended the parliamentary leadership reshuffle that saw Mr. Iddrisu replaced as Minority Leader by Cassiel Ato Forson, arguing that the changes played a key role in the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general election.

The reshuffle, announced in January 2023, led to a complete overhaul of the Minority leadership as part of what the party described as a strategic reorganisation ahead of the polls.

During his recent thank-you tour in Tamale, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah maintained that the NDC needed a new “forward line” in Parliament to strengthen its chances against the then-governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Despite the backlash and tensions that followed the decision, the NDC went on to secure a decisive victory in the 2024 elections, with both Mr. Iddrisu and former Chief Whip Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak later appointed to senior positions in the Mahama administration.

Although Mr. Iddrisu did not directly explain what he meant by the “curtain-raiser” remark, his comments are expected to fuel further discussion within the NDC over lingering divisions, reconciliation efforts, and the political consequences of the leadership shake-up.

Speaking during his ongoing thank-you tour of the Tolon Constituency in the Northern Region, Mr. Asiedu Nketia expressed appreciation to the people of Nyamkpala for their commitment and support before, during and after the elections.

According to him, the community played a key role in the NDC’s campaign efforts to return John Dramani Mahama to power and secure victory for the party’s parliamentary candidate.

“We thank the good people of Nyamkpala for your effort during, before and after the 2024 general elections. I came here with the team and we visited several places to appeal for votes to return President Mahama to power and also to get an MP elected on the ticket of the NDC,” he said.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia noted that both the party and residents of Nyamkpala worked hard during the campaign period.

“We did our best and I know the people of Nyamkpala did their best,” he stated.

The NDC Chairman, however, acknowledged the loss suffered by the community following the death of Haruna Shaibu during the elections.

“In the process, we lost one of our brothers, Alhaji Haruna. We are still pursuing that matter,” he said.

According to him, the people of Nyamkpala deserve more than appreciation because they lost a respected member of the community.

“The people of Nyamkpala need even more than our thanks because, apart from the campaign, you also lost a very good son,” he added.

Mr. Asiedu Nketia assured the family and residents that the party remains committed to seeking justice.

“So I am here to assure you that your son will not die in vain. We will continue to pursue the matter,” he stressed.

He further thanked traditional leaders and residents for their prayers, advice and guidance throughout the election period.

“So we want to thank everyone, including the Chief, for the prayers, advice and guidance,” he added.

Aggrieved NPP Tarkwa Nsuaem members protest over alleged favoritism https://www.adomonline.com/aggrieved-npp-tarkwa-nsuaem-members-protest-over-alleged-favoritism/ Thu, 21 May 2026 14:52:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664606 The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Tarkwa Nsuaem Constituency is facing growing internal tensions, as some aggrieved members staged a demonstration over alleged favoritism and claims of attempts to hijack the party structure for the benefit of a single individual.

The demonstration saw the participation of youths, former constituency executives, some current party officers, and founding members of the party in the area.

Speaking to the media, the convener of the protest, Nana Sulley, said he has been a member of the party since 1992 and previously served as a constituency executive. He alleged that internal challenges began when George Mireku Duker expressed interest in contesting the parliamentary seat.

He further claimed that instead of allowing internal elections to be freely conducted within the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency, some executives were allegedly imposed through selection rather than election, which he described as contrary to party procedures.

Spokesperson for the aggrieved members, Amporful Adu Nakaa, also said they have lost confidence in both constituency and regional executives, alleging that several petitions submitted to them have gone unanswered.

A founding member of the party, known as Auntie Hannah, expressed disappointment over what she described as the declining unity within the constituency, urging national leadership to intervene.

The aggrieved members are therefore calling on the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NPP to intervene in the situation and direct the constituency leadership to properly reorganise polling station elections to restore internal democracy.

We have all seen it – Kwakye Ofosu confirms early race to replace Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/we-have-all-seen-it-kwakye-ofosu-confirms-early-race-to-replace-mahama/ Thu, 21 May 2026 06:48:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664294 Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu has openly acknowledged growing manoeuvring within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over who could eventually succeed John Dramani Mahama.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express on Monday, he said concerns raised by Callistus Mahama about early succession politics distracting the government were legitimate and could not be ignored.

“We are, we have all seen it, and his question is timely. What he said is absolutely true. He’s spot on, and I’m on all fours with him,” the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said.

Kwakye Ofosu argued that the NDC’s future electoral fortunes would depend more on government performance than on personalities seeking to lead the party.

“You see, the thing that will convince Ghanaians to give us another mandate is the performance that we put up. It doesn’t matter who you bring to contest,” he stressed.

“Indeed, I have come to believe that personalities no longer matter unless some defining quality sets them apart from others.”

According to him, Ghanaian voters have become more sophisticated in assessing governments and are increasingly interested in results rather than campaign excitement.

“The Ghanaian people assess the performance of governments and decide whether or not to renew the mandate,” he said.

“So you are better off putting up your very best performance, so that in the end, whoever emerges out of your internal process to lead the party has a good story to tell.”

He warned that even the most attractive candidate would struggle if the government’s record disappoints voters.

“You can bring an angel, but if the story behind that angel is sordid, he’s not going to get a pass, and people will not vote for him or her,” he stated.

Kwakye Ofosu said Dr. Callistus Mahama’s comments should serve as a warning to individuals already positioning themselves for the future.

“Dr. Callistus’ admonition is timely. Then I’m sure that those who have ears would have heard.”

Pressed on whether the President could act against officials believed to be quietly campaigning, Kwakye Ofosu said many had not formally declared any ambition, making direct action difficult at this stage.

“Some of them may not be office holders, so if you ask them, what would they be stepping aside from to begin with?” he said.

He described current activities as largely exploratory, noting that no official declarations had been made.

“At this stage, they are engaged in exploratory activity, but they have not said anywhere that they are going to contest elections,” he explained.

Still, he indicated there would come a point when such political activity could no longer coexist with government responsibilities.

“A time will come when those activities will not be tenable in relation to their positions in government, and then it should be obvious that they have to step aside.”

Kwakye Ofosu recalled how former President John Agyekum Kufuor once asked ministers with presidential ambitions to resign from his cabinet, suggesting that similar principles could become relevant if succession activities intensify.

Evalue Ajomoro Gwira NDC members petition party leadership over alleged electoral manipulation https://www.adomonline.com/evalue-ajomoro-gwira-ndc-members-petition-party-leadership-over-alleged-electoral-manipulation/ Wed, 20 May 2026 15:22:27 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2664184 Concerned members, branch executives and grassroots supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira Constituency have petitioned the party’s regional and national leadership over what they describe as intimidation, manipulation of delegates’ lists and interference in the constituency’s internal electoral processes.

In a petition addressed to the Regional Executive Committee of the party in Sekondi and copied to the National Executive Committee, Functional Executive Committee, National Elections and IT Directorate, as well as the Council of Elders, the petitioners accused some constituency and branch officials of undermining the integrity of the ongoing internal processes.

The petition specifically named the constituency secretary, branch chairmen from Bamiankor A and B, Anibil A and B, GPRTU Axim, the Branch Organiser of Attakrom, the Zonal Coordinator of Northern Gwira and others, alleging they were manipulating party structures in favour of selected individuals.

According to the petitioners, “Reports and incidents emerging from branches including Bamiankor, Anibil, Attakrom, GPRTU Axim, all 19 branches in Northern Gwira and other branches clearly indicate a calculated attempt by some party officials to manipulate the internal democratic process in favour of selected individuals while suppressing the legitimate rights of other members and aspirants.”

They further alleged intimidation and harassment of members perceived to support opposing candidates, unlawful alterations of delegates’ lists and party registers, and withholding of branch registers from stakeholders.

“The actions of the officials are not only disgraceful and divisive, but they also constitute a direct assault on the democratic values, fairness, transparency, and unity upon which the NDC was founded,” portions of the petition stated.

The petitioners are demanding an immediate independent investigation, verification and auditing of branch registers, sanctions against any officials found culpable, and deployment of impartial officers to supervise the remaining electoral processes in the constituency.

They warned that failure to address the concerns could undermine party unity, credibility and electoral strength ahead of future elections.

Stop spreading false reports on Constituency Secretary’s death – NDC Chairman https://www.adomonline.com/stop-spreading-false-reports-on-constituency-secretarys-death-ndc-chairman/ Tue, 19 May 2026 20:03:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663809 The Akropong Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Daniel Awere, has called on the public to disregard reports claiming that the party’s Akuapem North Constituency Secretary, Isaac Basta Hamillin, died while engaging in sexual activity at a hotel.

According to Mr. Awere, although the party has indeed lost its constituency secretary, the circumstances surrounding his death are still under investigation, and it is wrong for people to circulate unverified information.

Speaking on the incident, he explained that the late secretary was on official duty when the unfortunate event occurred.

“We were trying to reach him several times, but there was no response. We later went to the hotel where he had lodged and asked the hotel management to open the door. When the door was opened, we found him lying dead in the room,” he stated.

Mr. Awere said the police were immediately informed after the discovery, and the body has since been handed over to the authorities for further investigations.

He condemned the circulation of rumours suggesting that the deceased died during sex, stressing that such claims are false and disrespectful to his memory.

“Our culture and traditions demand that we show dignity and respect to the dead. It is very unfair for people to speculate and spread false information about the cause of his death before investigations are concluded,” he added.

The NDC chairman further appealed to the public to stop sharing the reports and instead sympathise with the party and the bereaved family during this difficult period.

Bole Traditional Authority remarks put spotlight on Asiedu Nketia https://www.adomonline.com/bole-traditional-authority-remarks-put-spotlight-on-asiedu-nketia/ Tue, 19 May 2026 11:37:23 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663636 Comments made on behalf of the Overlord of Bole, Bolewura Sarfo Kutuge Feso I, during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s tour of the Savannah Region have sparked renewed political speculation about the veteran politician’s future within the governing party.

Speaking during Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s stop in Bole as part of his nationwide “Thank You Tour,” Tingawura Seidu Abudu Sampson, a member of the Council of State, delivered a message on behalf of the Bolewura and suggested that the NDC Chairman could one day rise to the highest political office in the country.

The Bolewura, who was unable to personally receive Mr. Asiedu Nketia due to another engagement in Tamale, was said to have expressed gratitude for the Chairman’s longstanding support for President John Dramani Mahama throughout his political journey.

According to Tingawura Sampson, the traditional ruler acknowledged Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s role in supporting President Mahama “from the beginning up to this point” and encouraged him to continue his support for the President and the governing NDC administration.

The remarks, however, attracted attention after the Council of State member suggested that those who help others rise politically may also be rewarded in return.

“Any son who supports a father to rise to the highest level will also receive prayers and blessings to rise to that same level, and possibly even surpass it in future,” he stated.

He further indicated that the Bolewura believed Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s contributions to the party and the country would not go unrewarded, adding that traditional prayers and blessings were being offered on his behalf.

The comments have since generated political discussion, especially within NDC circles, over possible succession dynamics beyond President Mahama’s current administration.

Although Mr. Asiedu Nketia has not publicly declared any intention to contest the presidency, observers and critics have increasingly linked his nationwide “Thank You Tour” and grassroots engagements to broader political positioning.

Some critics have suggested the tour could be helping to build momentum for a potential future presidential bid, though these claims remain unconfirmed and have not been addressed by the NDC Chairman.

Popularly known as “General Mosquito,” Asiedu Nketia remains one of the most influential figures in the NDC, having served in several leadership roles, including General Secretary before becoming National Chairman.

His ongoing regional tour focuses on thanking supporters, engaging traditional authorities, and interacting with grassroots members following the NDC’s return to power in the 2024 general elections.

During the Savannah Regional tour, he met chiefs, opinion leaders, and party supporters across Salaga, Kpalbe, Buipe, Daboya, Damongo, Sawla, and Bole.

Felix Kwakye Ofosu reveals why Ghana still has no defence minister https://www.adomonline.com/felix-kwakye-ofosu-reveals-why-ghana-still-has-no-defence-minister/ Tue, 19 May 2026 08:17:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663519 Government spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu says President John Dramani Mahama has not appointed a substantive Defence Minister because the ministry is operating effectively without one, and the President sees no urgency in filling the role.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express on Monday, the Abura Asebu-Kwamankese MP said the absence of a dedicated minister has not compromised Ghana’s security in any way.

“There’s not been any lapses, as far as I know, in terms of Ghana’s defence architecture,” he said, adding that conditions in the sector are actually improving. He pointed to ongoing equipment acquisition and retooling as evidence that the ministry is on track.

Kwakye Ofosu also suggested that having the Finance Minister serve in an acting capacity at the Defence Ministry may be an advantage. “Perhaps it helps that the man who has to bankroll it is also the one who is in the acting capacity at the Defence Ministry. So everything is on track,” he said.

When pressed by host Evans Mensah on why no replacement had been named since the death of Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Kwakye Ofosu was firm that the decision rests entirely with the President.

“It is the President’s prerogative to appoint ministers, and once he deems it necessary to do so at any moment, he will communicate it to me, and I will communicate it to you,” he said.

Tarkwa-Nsuaem NPP members announce protest over alleged electoral irregularities https://www.adomonline.com/tarkwa-nsuaem-npp-members-announce-protest-over-alleged-electoral-irregularities/ Mon, 18 May 2026 14:03:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663249 Some members and stakeholders of the New Patriotic Party in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency have announced plans to stage a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, May 21, 2026, over alleged irregularities in the party’s internal electoral processes.

In a statement signed by Ampoful Adu Narkaah, the group said the protest is intended to draw national attention to what they describe as widespread manipulation during registration, nomination, vetting, and polling station elections.

According to them, several party members were unfairly excluded or disqualified despite established guidelines meant to ensure transparency and fairness within the process.

“The entire process within the constituency has been compromised,” the statement alleged.

The concerned members further accused some constituency executives and their agents of intimidation and unfair treatment during the exercise. They added that complaints submitted to the regional leadership of the party had not received adequate attention.

They argued that the situation poses a threat to unity within the constituency as the party looks ahead to the 2028 general elections.

“As concerned members of the party, we believe that the NPP requires unity ahead of the 2028 general elections. However, unity cannot prevail amidst injustice, lack of transparency, intimidation, exclusion, and unfair treatment,” parts of the statement read.

The group is demanding the annulment of the polling station election results, an independent investigation into the process, and fresh elections to be supervised by the party’s National Elections Committee.

The planned demonstration is expected to begin at UBAS Junction in Tarkwa and end at the Tarkwa Market Circle at 7:30 am.

Organisers say the protest will be peaceful and orderly, with assurances to both the public and security agencies.

NPP should have disciplined Abronye long ago – Nana Yaa Jantuah reacts to detention https://www.adomonline.com/npp-should-have-disciplined-abronye-long-ago-nana-yaa-jantuah-reacts-to-detention/ Mon, 18 May 2026 12:02:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663179 Presidential staffer, Nana Yaa Jantuah has reacted to the detention of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, stressing the need for discipline and decorum in public discourse.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, the former General Secretary of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) said she does not support the use of insults in political communication, regardless of who is involved.

“Anybody at all wants to insult President Mahama. I don’t like insults, no matter who you are,” she said. “When we were little, my father taught us not to insult, and there are some words we simply do not use. Even now, I avoid certain words.”

She added that political leaders should focus on constructive criticism rather than personal attacks.

“You can criticize a person, but raw insults are bad,” she stated.

Nana Yaa Jantuah further described the situation as a matter of discipline rather than politics, arguing that every political party has internal mechanisms to deal with misconduct.

“This is not political. It is about indiscipline, and the party must discipline him,” she said. “Every party has a disciplinary committee, so I am surprised the NPP appears not to be using its disciplinary structures.”

She referenced previous disciplinary actions within the party, adding:

“When it came to Adjoa Safo, you said you were dragging her to the disciplinary committee. When it comes to someone else, you think he was not treated well.”

According to her, political parties must ensure consistency in enforcing rules to maintain credibility and order.

“The party should have summoned him long ago. There should be decorum in public discourse,” she said.

Nana Yaa Jantuah expressed surprise that the issue was being politicised, insisting it should be treated as a matter of conduct.

“I am shocked they are making politics out of it,” she said.

She compared the situation to poor upbringing and discipline, adding:

“It is like a child who was not properly raised and goes out insulting people regardless of status. That is what Abronye did, and he is facing the consequences of his actions.”

Her comments come in the wake of Abronye’s arrest and detention, which has generated public and political debate across the country.

I will run for President in 2028 election – Rev. Tweneboah Kodua declares https://www.adomonline.com/i-will-run-for-president-in-2028-election-rev-tweneboah-kodua-declares/ Mon, 18 May 2026 11:55:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663191 Ghanaian entrepreneur and farmer Rev. Tweneboah Kodua has declared his intention to contest the 2028 presidential election as an independent candidate.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi, Rev. Kodua said his decision was driven by concerns over what he described as the country’s direction under successive governments.

According to him, the two major political parties have had enough opportunities to govern, yet many challenges facing Ghanaians remain unresolved.

“I will run as an independent candidate. The political parties have had their chance to lead this country, but Ghanaians are still struggling with issues that should have been solved long ago,” he said.

He also suggested that President John Dramani Mahama’s efforts to reform the country face internal challenges.

“President Mahama intends to develop the country and fix the system, but faces resistance from within his party,” he added.

Rev. Kodua appealed to citizens who are dissatisfied with the traditional two-party political system to support an independent alternative.

He criticised the country’s economic direction, arguing that Ghana has not achieved genuine independence because it continues to rely heavily on external support.

“Ghana has not yet achieved true independence. We cannot claim to be independent while continuing to rely on foreign nations. We should be using the resources God has blessed us with to develop our nation,” he stated.

The aspiring presidential candidate also argued that parts of the 1992 Constitution no longer serve their intended purpose and instead benefit a limited section of society.

He said constitutional reforms would form a major part of his administration if elected.

Outlining some of his policy priorities, Rev. Kodua said his campaign would focus on agricultural modernisation, youth employment and reducing Ghana’s dependence on imported goods.

As a farmer, he disclosed that he has cultivated 120 acres of maize and intends to donate the harvest to support the government’s school feeding programme.

“My background as a farmer and entrepreneur gives me practical understanding of the problems and how to solve them. That distinguishes me from other candidates who may contest the 2028 election,” he said.

He also pledged to reduce the financial burden on Ghanaians by abolishing electricity bills and establishing mining centres across the country to create jobs and ensure responsible mining practices.

“If I become President, Ghanaian households will not pay electricity bills because we have resources that can cover the costs. I will establish mining centres in all regions to employ the youth and ensure proper mining practices,” he stated.

Rev. Kodua further criticised Ghana’s education system, describing it as overly theoretical.

He proposed introducing a “Ghana School” model focused on technical and vocational education to equip students with practical skills and reduce dependence on government employment.

He said he plans to begin nationwide consultations in the coming months to build support ahead of the 2028 election campaign.

Speaking on behalf of the Bolewura during Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s tour of the Savannah Region, Tingawura Sampson explained that the traditional ruler had intended to personally receive the NDC Chairman but was unable to do so due to prior engagements in Tamale.

The statement was made during Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s ongoing “Thank You Tour” of the Savannah Region, where he has been meeting traditional leaders, party supporters, and residents following the NDC’s victory in the 2024 general elections.

According to him, the Bolewura expressed deep appreciation to Mr. Asiedu Nketia for his long-standing support for President Mahama.

“The Bolewura asked me to personally thank the National Chairman for the support he has given to his son, President John Mahama, from the beginning to this point,” he said.

He further noted that the Bolewura encouraged Mr. Asiedu Nketia to continue offering his guidance and support to both the President and the party.

Tingawura Sampson added that the Bolewura believes the efforts and sacrifices of party leaders working towards the growth of the NDC and national development will not go unrewarded.

He also relayed a message of goodwill, stating that continued dedication and support for the President would yield positive outcomes.

“Any son who supports his father to rise to the highest level, the father will also pray for him to rise even higher,” he said, adding that the Bolewura believes Mr. Asiedu Nketia’s efforts are not in vain and will be duly rewarded.

He further conveyed greetings from the Bolewura to the Savannah Regional executives of the NDC, commending them for their commitment and contributions to the party’s activities in the region.

Robert Ajene, former headmaster of Bawku Secondary School, said he first encountered Afoko in the 1960s when he admitted him into Form 1.

Speaking from his experience as Afoko’s headmaster, Ajene said he witnessed the qualities that set him apart even as a young student.

“I bear witness to his leadership qualities because I admitted him to Bawku Secondary School, and there were times he stayed with me,” Ajene said. “I am bearing testimony to his distinguished integrity, an integrity that can be of great help to the NPP.”

Mr. Ajene’s endorsement comes as Afoko, a native of the Upper East Region, officially informs the NPP Council of Elders, regional executives, and patrons of his intention to contest for the NPP National Chairman position.

According to Ajene, Afoko is also seeking the wise counsel of the party’s elders and leadership as he prepares for the contest. He argued that the NPP has the political potential to return to power, but only if the party prioritises unity over division.

“NPP has the potential, and the only way to harness that potential is through unity,” he said. “Let’s get our acts together.”

Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, he stressed that the party’s biggest challenge has been self-inflicted and can be resolved through tolerance and a stronger democratic culture.

“The biggest problem is unity,” Mr. Ajene said. “We need a large heart of tolerance in democracy. The challenges were self-inflicted, and we know them one by one.”

Ajene’s comments add to growing calls within the NPP for reconciliation and internal cohesion as the party prepares for its next electoral cycle. For him, Afoko represents the kind of leadership grounded in integrity and service that can help rebuild trust and broaden the party’s base.

Annoh-Dompreh petitions Mahama over dumsor, cocoa prices and food shortages https://www.adomonline.com/annoh-dompreh-petitions-mahama-over-dumsor-cocoa-prices-and-food-shortages/ Mon, 18 May 2026 07:28:07 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2663007 The Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has formally written to President John Dramani Mahama raising concerns over a number of pressing national issues affecting livelihoods and state institutions.

In the letter, the lawmaker highlighted what he described as the return of persistent power outages, worsening conditions facing cocoa farmers following reductions in producer prices, and growing institutional challenges at the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA).

He also drew attention to what he termed a troubling situation where food gluts in farming communities are occurring alongside food shortages in Senior High Schools across the country.

According to Mr. Annoh-Dompreh, failure to address these challenges urgently could lead to serious economic and administrative setbacks with long-term consequences for ordinary Ghanaians.

The MP said he proposed practical reforms and interventions aimed at protecting jobs, improving food security, strengthening environmental governance, and stabilising the economy.

He stressed that leadership must speak out whenever the welfare of citizens and the credibility of national institutions are under threat.

Mr. Annoh-Dompreh further warned that neglecting early warning signs surrounding these issues could escalate them into major financial and governance crises that may derail national development efforts.

He therefore called for urgent executive attention and broader engagement with affected groups in resolving the concerns raised.

Abronye’s arrest and treatment a constitutional disgrace — Afenyo-Markin https://www.adomonline.com/abronyes-arrest-and-treatment-a-constitutional-disgrace-afenyo-markin/ Mon, 18 May 2026 06:51:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2662982 The Minority Leader in Parliament, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has described the arrest and detention of the Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, as a “constitutional disgrace.”

Addressing a press briefing at the party’s headquarters, Mr. Afenyo-Markin criticised what he described as the treatment meted out to Abronye following his arrest.

According to the Minority Leader, although the NPP does not support unguarded public comments by its members, the circumstances surrounding the charges against Abronye do not justify the manner in which he was allegedly treated.

He argued that criticism of the conduct of a public official should not be interpreted as a constitutional offence warranting intimidation or harsh treatment.

Mr. Afenyo-Markin further maintained that Abronye’s comments regarding the conduct of a judge did not amount to a constitutional breach deserving of the actions taken against him.

He also stressed the need to protect democratic freedoms and ensure that state institutions act within the confines of the law when dealing with political actors and matters of public expression.

Ejisu NPP executives clash over alleged interference in polling station elections https://www.adomonline.com/ejisu-npp-executives-clash-over-alleged-interference-in-polling-station-elections-2/ Mon, 18 May 2026 06:50:02 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2662980 Some constituency executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Ejisu have reportedly clashed over alleged interference in the party’s internal electoral process ahead of the upcoming polling station elections.

The disagreement is said to centre on allegations against a regional executive representative, Kwame Owusu Bampoe, whom some constituency executives accuse of undermining the party’s electoral guidelines.

According to the aggrieved executives, the alleged actions threaten transparency, fairness and unity within the constituency as preparations intensify for the internal polls.

Ejisu Constituency Secretary, Prince Asare, alleged that the regional representative had on several occasions overridden decisions collectively taken by constituency executives.

He further claimed that some directives being enforced were allegedly backed by regional authorities despite concerns raised by the local party leadership.

The development is said to have heightened tensions within the constituency, with some executives calling for strict adherence to the party’s laid down procedures to ensure a credible and peaceful electoral process.

The NPP is expected to conduct polling station elections across the country as part of preparations for future internal and national political activities.

Team Obour rejects allegations linking him to Juaso incident https://www.adomonline.com/team-obour-rejects-allegations-linking-him-to-juaso-incident/ Sun, 17 May 2026 18:08:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2662922 The communications and legal affairs team of parliamentary hopeful Mr. Bice Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Bice Osei Kuffour, has strongly rejected allegations linking him to the recent hooting incident involving Kwaku Asante-Boateng during polling station elections in Juaso.

In a statement signed by Afoakwah Albert Jnr on behalf of Team Obour4Parliament, the team described claims suggesting Obour orchestrated, sponsored, or encouraged the incident as false, malicious, and politically motivated.

According to the statement, Obour has never supported acts of intimidation, disrespect, or indiscipline against any member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), including Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng.

The team argued that the allegations were aimed at damaging Obour’s reputation, stressing that his growing influence and grassroots support in Asante Akim South continue to gain attention.

The statement also criticised some party communicators for allegedly engaging in personal attacks and divisive commentary instead of promoting peace and unity within the party.

Team Obour maintained that the aspiring parliamentary candidate remains committed to democratic values, party unity, and the development of Asante Akim South.

The statement further rejected claims that Obour had abandoned the constituency, insisting he has maintained long-standing relationships with residents through philanthropy, youth empowerment initiatives, educational support, and community engagements.

While acknowledging the contributions of Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng to the constituency, the team said political competition within the party should not be turned into hostility, intimidation, or character assassination.

The statement further warned that legal action could be pursued if what it described as false and damaging publications against Obour continue.

Team Obour called on party members and supporters to remain calm, respectful, and law-abiding while urging members of the NPP to embrace reconciliation and unity.

RESPONSE TO FALSE, MALICIOUS, AND DIVISIVE STATEMENT AGAINST OBOUR

Our attention has been drawn to a politically motivated statement circulating under the title “Strong Condemnation of the Hooting of Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng in Juaso.” The statement, regrettably filled with inflammatory rhetoric, baseless accusations, and deliberate attempts to sow division within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asante Akim South, seeks to unfairly drag the name of Mr. Bice Osei Kuffour (Obour) into an incident with which he has absolutely no connection.

As representatives of Obour, we categorically reject and condemn the false allegations suggesting that he orchestrated, sponsored, encouraged, or had any involvement whatsoever in the unfortunate events that occurred in Juaso during the recent polling station elections.

At no point has Obour endorsed acts of disrespect, political intimidation, or indiscipline against Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng or any member of the NPP. Such claims are not only reckless and defamatory but also appear to be a calculated attempt to tarnish the reputation of a man whose growing influence, humility, and grassroots appeal continue to resonate strongly with the people of Asante Akim South.

It is deeply unfortunate that individuals who claim to be communication officers of the party would resort to personal attacks, insults, and divisive propaganda instead of promoting unity, maturity, and democratic tolerance within the constituency.

Obour remains fully committed to peaceful democratic engagement, party unity, and the advancement of Asante Akim South. His political journey has consistently been guided by respect for party structures, service to people, and a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully to the development of the constituency.

Contrary to the misleading narrative being pushed, Obour has never abandoned Asante Akim South. He has maintained longstanding relationships with constituents over the years through philanthropy, youth empowerment initiatives, educational support, entertainment advocacy, and community engagement long before expressing political interest in the constituency.

It is important to remind all party faithful that democracy allows every qualified member of the NPP to contest for leadership positions and to offer themselves for service. Contesting a parliamentary primary does not make one an enemy of the party or an enemy of the sitting Member of Parliament. Political competition within a democratic party should never degenerate into hatred, intimidation, character assassination, or deliberate misinformation.

We acknowledge and respect the contributions of Hon. Kwaku Asante-Boateng to the development of Asante Akim South. Public office is ultimately about service, and every leader who contributes positively deserves recognition. However, development projects funded by taxpayers and executed through government institutions should not be weaponized to suppress legitimate political participation or differing political opinions within the party.

The attempt to portray every disagreement or expression of dissatisfaction by constituents as being orchestrated by Obour is dishonest, unfair, and politically irresponsible. The people of Asante Akim South are politically aware, independent-minded citizens capable of expressing their views without manipulation.

We are particularly concerned by the dangerous and defamatory nature of the accusations made against Obour without a shred of evidence. We wish to serve notice that while our client remains committed to peace and internal party harmony, we will not hesitate to explore all legal remedies available should the continuous publication of false and damaging allegations persist.

The NPP has always stood for rule of law, tolerance, freedom of expression, and internal democracy. We therefore urge all party members and communicators to desist from inflammatory commentary capable of deepening divisions within the constituency.

This is a time for reconciliation, reflection, and unity — not propaganda, scapegoating, and internal hostility.

Obour remains focused on supporting the growth of Asante Akim South, empowering the youth, strengthening party unity, and contributing positively to the future of the constituency and the New Patriotic Party.

We encourage all supporters and party faithful to remain calm, respectful, and law-abiding as the party continues its internal processes.
