Dennis Miracles Aboagye, an aide to New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has embarked on a tour of several ghetto communities in Accra to express appreciation to residents for their support during his recent arrest over alleged financial and procurement-related offences.
Miracles Aboagye was arrested by officers of the Ghana Immigration Service at the Kotoka International Airport on Saturday, July 11, 2026, upon his return from an overseas trip. He was later handed over to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) for investigations.
His arrest generated reactions from sections of the NPP, with party supporters gathering at the EOCO headquarters on Monday, July 13, to demand his release.
During one of his visits to the communities on Saturday, July 18, Miracles said he was deeply touched by the support and solidarity he received from residents, many of whom he had no prior relationship with.
“I came to thank all of you. I saw the love and support you showed me when I came out. Most of you, I had never met before, but your support meant a lot,” he said.
He assured the residents that he would always remember their gesture, describing the relationship created through their support as one of family.
“If not for you, I may still have been in custody. After today, we are family. I will never forget you,” he added.
Miracles Aboagye, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation, is being investigated by EOCO over alleged financial and procurement irregularities amounting to about GH¢55 million during his tenure.
After his arrest and subsequent interrogation, EOCO granted him bail set at GH¢50 million with three sureties.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing as EOCO continues efforts to establish the facts surrounding the alleged financial breaches.
