New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Organiser hopeful, Ali Maiga Halidu, has identified former Tema East MP and former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, as his main contender in the party’s National Organiser race.
Mr Maiga said the contest is effectively a two-horse race between himself and Mr Glover, who is seeking the position for the second time.
“Titus Glover is my direct contender in the National Organiser race. The competition is between him and me,” he said.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Mr Maiga said although both candidates are former MPs, he believes Mr Glover should make way for younger party members to take up the responsibility of rebuilding the NPP and preparing it for the 2028 elections.
“We are both former MPs. I think he is my direct contender. This is the second time he is contesting this position and this is my first time. It’s like a two-horse race,” he stated.
Mr Maiga pointed to the age difference between the two candidates, arguing that his younger age gives him an advantage in the demanding task of nationwide grassroots mobilisation.
“At age 60, I think he is tired and should allow young men like myself, who is 45 years old, to lead the charge to recapture power for the party,” he said.
He further noted that Mr Glover had already occupied several public positions, including serving as a minister, deputy minister, CEO and deputy CEO, and suggested that the former MP should allow other party members to gain similar opportunities to serve.
“He has been a minister before, deputy minister, CEO, deputy CEO. So it’s okay, he should let us who haven’t gotten any appointment yet do the work,” Mr Maiga said.
According to him, his motivation for contesting is to bring fresh energy to the NPP’s mobilisation efforts and help the party return to power in 2028.
“He has done some, so he should leave the rest for us. Let’s do some of the work and win back power in 2028,” he added.
