TikToker Rita Konadu, popularly known as “Mama One,” has been granted GH¢50,000 bail with two sureties after appearing before court over allegations of making offensive remarks about President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.
The 49-year-old mother of four, who hails from Juaben in the Ashanti Region, was granted bail after being arraigned following her arrest by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET) of the Ghana Police Service.
Mama One was picked up by the police over videos allegedly posted on social media in which she made offensive and derogatory comments directed at the President and the First Lady.
Her arrest formed part of ongoing efforts by the Police to investigate and prosecute individuals accused of using social media platforms to publish content deemed threatening or offensive.
The court admitted her to bail in the sum of GH¢50,000 with two sureties while investigations continue.
She is expected to comply with all bail conditions and make herself available to investigators whenever required.
The case follows a series of recent arrests by the Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team involving individuals accused of making offensive political remarks on social media.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing, with the prosecution expected to update the court at the next hearing.
