An Accra High Court presided over by Justice Afia Serwaa Asare Botwe has ordered lawyers for Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, to present him in court by 1:00 pm on Tuesday.

Joy News’ Joseph Ackah-Blay who was in court has reported that the judge asked the MP to be in court in person to answer the charges levelled against him as is the case in criminal cases.

The judge noted that the proceedings would not go on without the MP being present.

The Judge’s order comes on the heels of Mr Ayariga’s letter to the Special Prosecutor, telling him that he could not be present in court on Tuesday since he was an MP and will be in Parliament.

“I can come to court on any other day when Parliament is not sitting,” Ayariga wrote.

Sticking by the letter, Mr Ayariga did not appear in court when the case was called on Tuesday morning.

The Parliamentarian is being tried by the Office of the Special Prosecutor over alleged tax evasion and the procurement of some ambulances.
