National Association of Small Scale Miners is unhappy with the new-twist, as far as the lifting of the ban on small-scale mining is concerned.

The Director of Research and Development of the association, Mike Gizo, says the introduction of Optimum Responsible Mining to track down illegal operations, coupled with the site management committees which have been initiated by his outfit clearly shows their readiness to cooperate with government’s directives.

President Akufo-Addo, at the NPP delegates conference at Koforidua last Saturday, said he cannot collapse small-scale mining businesses but will rather put measures and mechanisms in place to help check their activities.

But the small-scale miners say they have waited for too long and want to hear date and time of lifting the ban of small-scale mining.

Mr Gizo says the only way to achieve 90 percent success in the fight against illegal mining is to lift the ban.
