The Ghana Shippers’ Authority has activated a series of 24-hour operational systems aimed at supporting government’s flagship 24-Hour Economy Policy through continuous monitoring, digital complaint management and real-time support services for shippers and logistics operators.

According to the Authority, the interventions are designed to improve cargo movement, reduce delays at the ports and strengthen Ghana’s position as a regional logistics and transit hub in West Africa.

A briefing note shared by the Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, with the sector minister, has explained that the shipping and logistics sector naturally fits into a 24-hour operational model because global trade activities run continuously across different time zones.

As part of the interventions, the Authority has operationalised the “ShippersApp,” a digital platform that allows importers, exporters and other port users to lodge complaints at any time of the day.

The app enables users to report issues such as excessive port charges, cargo delays, poor service delivery and operational bottlenecks for immediate attention.

The Authority said the app is available on both Play Store and App Store platforms.

To strengthen responsiveness during night operations, frontline officers and complaint-handling executives have also been equipped with dedicated mobile phones to provide 24-hour support services.

The Authority announced two hotlines — 0206622080 and 0206022081 — to enable port users and shippers to report urgent operational concerns in real time.

In addition, the GSA has tailored an electronic platform to monitor challenges along Ghana’s transit corridors, particularly complaints involving delays at checkpoints, unofficial charges and harassment of cargo drivers.

The Authority said complaints can also be lodged through the regional trade barrier platform, which supports faster stakeholder engagement and resolution processes.

As part of efforts to ensure continuous regulatory oversight, the Authority has intensified night-time monitoring activities at the ports and airport cargo terminals.

According to the GSA, officers in reflective SHIPPERS-branded apparel now undertake overnight monitoring exercises to identify operational bottlenecks and ensure compliance with service standards during continuous port operations.

The Authority believes the measures will support faster cargo clearance, improve vessel turnaround time and reduce the cost of doing business at the ports.

It further indicated that efficient 24-hour logistics operations are essential to positioning Ghana as a preferred maritime gateway for neighbouring landlocked countries.

However, the Authority acknowledged challenges including high operational costs, security concerns, inadequate infrastructure and limited inter-agency coordination.

Despite the hurdles, the GSA maintained that it remains committed to supporting the successful implementation of the government’s economic transformation agenda through efficient and responsive shipping and logistics services.
