The decision is meant to curb recurrent fire outbreaks in the various markets

The Kumasi Metropolitan Security Council has resolved to close all markets in Kumasi by 6:00pm every day.

The Council will also to set up a security taskforce to monitor the various market facilities in the metropolis.

The decision was taken at the Council meeting held on Thursday, April 24, 2019 following three market fires in three nights in the metropolis.

Public Relations Officer for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr Godwin Okumah Nyame told Class News’ regional correspondent Elisha Adarkwah that among the decision taken at the meeting was to intensify public education on fire safety.

Part of the Kumasi central market was gutted by fire on Good Friday while Asafo market was also burnt on Saturday and Sunday.

The decision taken, according to Mr Okumah, will help to curb recurrent fire outbreaks in the various markets in the metropolis.
