Each household hosted at the National Disaster Management’s (NaDMO) designated safe havens will get a monthly stipend of GH₵535.
This is part of the World Food Programme’s (WFP) support for victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage after donating food items, water, medical kits, toiletries, sanitary pads, among others.
Country Director of World Food Programme, Barbara Tulu Clemens told Adom News reporter Shine Acquah that, as part of saving lives, “the WFP is giving each household this money as food assistance and will continue for the next 3 months”.
The distribution of the money started at the Agbetikpo D/A Basic School in the North Tongu district, where over 1,500 people are lodged.
It shall be extended to over 6,000 people in all safe havens across the eight affected districts.
Meanwhile, Deputy Representative UNICEF, Ghana, Fiachra McAsey, said UNICEF’s assessment indicates that, there is a need to establish short-term learning facilities for pupils affected by the spillage.
The Director General of NADMO, Nana Agyeman Prempeh who received the donation, expressed gratitude for the support.
He assured victims of government’s readiness to bring them respite.
