A local food brand in Accra, Hausa Cuisine, has extended a gesture of compassion to inmates at the Ho Central Prisons, where about 600 male and female inmates were treated to a special “love feast” in Ho.

The initiative, led by Chief Executive Officer Sarauniya Laura Maikankan, saw a variety of meals prepared and donated to the facility as part of efforts to share kindness and support with vulnerable groups.

Meals served included jollof rice, egg stew, beans, puff-puff, and tuo zaafi, bringing moments of excitement and relief to the inmates, many of whom expressed gratitude for the unexpected gesture.

Speaking to Adom News Correspondent Odehyeba Owusu Job, Ms Maikankan said the outreach is part of her commitment to giving back to society and showing love to people in all walks of life, including those in correctional facilities.

She also appealed for support from government, NGOs, and individuals to help expand the initiative.

“I intend to visit all prison services across the country, but I cannot do it alone. I am calling on government, NGOs, and individuals to support this cause,” she said.

The Public Relations Officer at the Ho Female Central Prisons, ASP Irene Tamorah Allan, commended the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

She noted that such gestures help improve inmates’ wellbeing and boost morale.

She also used the opportunity to call on Ghanaians, NGOs, and corporate bodies to support inmates through donations, including medical supplies.

Some inmates, who could not hide their excitement, also expressed appreciation for the kind gesture, saying the visit made them feel remembered and valued by society.

The outreach highlights growing efforts by individuals and organisations to support correctional centres and promote rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates into society.
