A major fire outbreak involving two warehouses at the Palladoor Annex in the Prampram Miotso Industrial Area has been brought under control after hours of intense firefighting by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
The fire, which broke out in the late afternoon of Friday, May 1, 2026, was worsened by highly combustible materials, strong winds, and the presence of gas and diesel storage tanks, making efforts to contain the blaze both difficult and prolonged.
According to the GNFS, a distress call was received at about 3:11 p.m., with the first fire appliance from the Prampram Fire Station arriving at the scene just eight minutes later.
Reinforcements were quickly dispatched from the Tema Industrial Area, Tema Regional Headquarters Substation, Ashaiman, and Sagge fire stations to support the operation.
Firefighters managed to confine the fire at 8:07 p.m., brought it under control shortly after midnight at 12:06 a.m., and fully extinguished it at 2:26 a.m.
The blaze affected two warehouses used for storing items including Chinese mats, doors, and mattresses. Out of six units, three were completely destroyed.
Despite the scale of the fire, emergency crews were able to salvage several properties, including two-storey buildings, three rooms, four movable container houses, barrels of diesel fuel, and six warehouses containing chest freezers, mats, and doors.
No casualties were recorded.
The Regional Fire Commander, Patrick Sallah, along with other senior officers, was present at the scene to supervise operations.
The Fire Service also commended the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and other supporting agencies for their role in managing the incident.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the cause of the fire.
