The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has averted a major fire disaster after successfully containing a blaze that broke out at Abasraba in Winneba in the early hours of Friday.

According to the Service, a fire crew led by Station Officer II Amoah responded promptly to a distress call and managed to bring the situation under control before it could escalate.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire started in the kitchen of a four-bedroom self-contained apartment. The flames quickly engulfed the cooking area, causing extensive damage.

However, due to the swift intervention of the firefighters, the blaze was prevented from spreading to the rest of the building.

While the kitchen was completely destroyed, the four bedrooms and other sections of the house were successfully salvaged, sparing the occupants from a more devastating loss.

The GNFS is yet to determine the exact cause of the fire, but officials say investigations are underway.

The Service has meanwhile urged the public to observe basic fire safety practices, particularly in kitchens, to help prevent similar incidents.
