Sarah Adwoa Safo’s team appears to have outwitted both police and rival family members to ensure her father, the late Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, was buried as planned, despite a court injunction and confusion over which vehicle actually carried his body.
The former Dome-Kwabenya MP has been locked in a bitter dispute with her brother, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, over control of their father’s funeral. The Accra High Court granted a 10-day interim injunction on July 29, 2026, restraining Adwoa Safo from proceeding with the burial while a substantive case over the arrangements remained before the court.
Despite the order, thousands of mourners gathered at Gomoa Mpota in the Central Region on July 30 for the funeral.
Videos and reports soon spread on social media claiming police had intercepted a hearse carrying the Apostle’s body as it was leaving Transitions Funeral Home.
But speaking on Neat FM the day after the burial, Adwoa Safo’s spokesperson, Seth Kofi Kissi, flatly denied the claims. He said the body was never kept at Transitions, and that Adwoa Safo had personally assigned him to collect it from where it was actually being held before it was taken to the funeral grounds.
“Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s body was never at Transitions. I was honoured when Adwoa Safo personally entrusted me with the responsibility of bringing the body from where it had been kept,” Kissi said.
According to him, Adwoa Safo arranged for a brand-new, previously unused vehicle to transport her father’s remains, and had the casket packaged and disguised to look like building materials.
Speaking separately to Okay FM, Kissi went further, revealing just how convincing the disguise was.
“Those who took the casket out of the car didn’t even know it was a casket they were carrying. The package looked like building materials. It was a complete, polished pallet in disguise with the casket well-parcelled inside,” he said.
“It was when the burial rites were about to begin that those around realised it was the body that had been carried out of the car,” he added.
The mission was so secretive that Kissi himself did not know it was the late Apostle’s body he had been sent to collect until he arrived at the location where it was being kept.

Background to the dispute
The confusion over the casket is the latest twist in a bitter family dispute over Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka’s funeral.
His son, Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena I, head of the Kantanka family and the Kristo Asafo Mission, has accused Adwoa Safo of denying him access to their father’s remains and ignoring parts of the will.
Adwoa Safo has maintained that the burial arrangements were properly concluded after consultations with the Asantehene and former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
With the dispute unresolved, the Accra High Court granted Akofena’s side a 10-day interim injunction on July 29, 2026, to halt the funeral, but Adwoa Safo pressed ahead regardless, and the burial went forward at Gomoa Mpota the next day.
