The Western North Regional Minister, Wilbert Petty Bentum, has revealed that several communities require major engineering interventions to address flooding challenges.

The Minister made the observation when he joined residents of Aowin in the National Clean-up Exercise following the devastating floods that affected parts of the municipality in recent weeks.

Addressing residents during the exercise in Enchi, the capital of the Aowin Municipality, Mr Bentum said significant engineering works are needed to improve drainage systems and reduce the risk of future flooding in the area.

He assured residents that the government remains committed to implementing measures to address the challenges exposed by the recent floods and improve community resilience.

The Regional Minister also urged residents to support efforts to prevent flooding by avoiding the indiscriminate disposal of waste into drains and waterways.

He stressed that responsible sanitation practices are critical to protecting lives, property and the environment.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Stephen Morcher, says flooding in Enchi is very common, as it happens annually. However, he indicated that the assembly would provide a lasting solution to the problem in the community.

Also, some of the residents shared their ordeal with the media about how they were affected during the flooding.
