Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has dismissed suggestions that the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) interfered in the selection of players for the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His comments follow growing public debate after head coach Carlos Queiroz named his 26-man squad for the tournament, with some selections sparking controversy within the football community.
The omission of Joseph Paintsil and Derrick Köhn has been at the centre of discussions, with sections of supporters and pundits alleging possible external influence on the final squad list.
However, speaking to TV3 Sports, the Buem MP insisted that no evidence has been presented to support such claims.
“I have no evidence that the GFA influenced the coach in the selection of the players,” Kofi Adams stated.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars are continuing their preparations in the United States ahead of their World Cup opener next week.
Ghana, making their fifth appearance at the global tournament, have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.
They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field, before facing England on June 23 at Gillette Stadium. Their final group match will be against Croatia on June 27.
The team will be hoping to advance beyond the group stage for the first time since their historic quarter-final run at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
