A final-year student of Nyinahin Catholic Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region who was involved in an altercation with a teacher has expressed deep regret over the incident, according to the Atwima Mponua District Education Directorate.
This was revealed by the Public Relations Officer of the Directorate, Eric Aboagye, in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem.
According to Mr Aboagye, the student became remorseful shortly after the incident and admitted that she wished she had acted differently.
He said the atmosphere on campus was subdued following the confrontation, which has attracted public attention and sparked concerns among teachers and education authorities.
“The school was very quiet and down on Tuesday and later on, the student was remorseful,” he said.
Mr. Aboagye disclosed that after visiting the police station to give her statement and receiving medical attention, the student openly admitted that she regretted fighting the teacher.
“She regretted her actions,” he stated, adding that the student struggled to explain what triggered her reaction.
“After she went to the Police station to write her statement and the hospital for treatment, she admitted that she regrets her actions and doesn’t know what came over her to fight the teacher,” he said.
According to Mr. Aboagye, the student’s mother was equally shocked by the incident and described her daughter as someone who is usually calm and reserved.
“The mother also said her daughter is not like that but very quiet and reserved at home so the whole incident has come as a surprise,” he noted.
He further revealed that he personally checked on the student’s wellbeing ahead of her English Language paper in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
“I engaged her to ask how she was doing and to make sure she takes her medicine because she had an English Language WASSCE paper on Wednesday morning, so I had to make sure she was in a good state,” he explained.
Mr. Aboagye said the student has reflected deeply on the incident and now wishes she could reverse what happened.
“If she could turn back the hands of time, she wouldn’t have fought the teacher,” he added.
The incident, which occurred at Nyinahin Catholic SHS, has generated widespread discussion among education stakeholders and prompted calls for calm as investigations and disciplinary processes continue.
