Ghanaian sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah was unable to secure a second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal after finishing seventh in the men’s 200 metres final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The Team Ghana captain crossed the finish line in 20.50 seconds, falling short of the podium after entering the final with high expectations.
Amoah had impressed in the semi-finals by clocking a season’s best time of 20.24 seconds to qualify, sparking hopes of matching or improving on the bronze medal he claimed at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Reflecting on his performance, the 28-year-old expressed disappointment, insisting he was capable of delivering a better race.
“I feel very disappointed. I think I should have done better,” Amoah said after the final.
Although satisfied with his lane assignment, the Ghanaian admitted the cold conditions presented a challenge but refused to use the weather as an excuse, acknowledging that his competitors produced stronger performances.
“I had a good lane. The conditions were not the best, but sometimes we train in conditions like this. The other guys were better today,” he added.
Amoah was Ghana’s sole representative in the men’s 200m final after compatriots James Dadzie and Mustapha Bokpin failed to progress beyond the semi-finals, bringing Team Ghana’s campaign in the event to an end.
