Two people have lost their lives after a galamsey pit collapsed at Assin Dansame in the Central Region.
According to information gathered by Radio Fosu, the victims were not natives of the community but had travelled from Assin Praso to engage in illegal mining activities.
Their bodies have been deposited at the New Edubease Government Hospital for preservation, while a survivor is currently receiving treatment at the Presbyterian Hospital in Assin Praso.
The Assin North NADMO Director, Edward Fireson, explained that the victims were trapped when the illegal mining pit caved in during their operations.
Meanwhile, a member of the Assin North Blue Water Guard team, Richard Amoh Nketia Junior, highlighted the persistent challenges authorities face in combating illegal mining in the district.
Some residents who spoke to Adom News also expressed concern over the growing dangers associated with galamsey activities and called for intensified efforts to curb the menace in the area.
