Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has set out his approach to player selection ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, stressing that only deserving and fully fit players will earn a place in his squad.
Speaking during his unveiling at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, the experienced Portuguese tactician underlined that no player is guaranteed a spot in the national team.
“Nobody owns the national team shirt. That must be clear,” the 73-year-old said.
He added that selection would be based strictly on merit, fitness, and experience.
“The players dream to represent the country, and it is our job to give them a fair and right opportunity. My job is to be sure that the ones who wear the shirt are those who deserve to be there.
“The players I select [would be] capable, fit [and] experienced,” he added.
Ghana will feature at the FIFA World Cup for a fifth time, having been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.
The Black Stars will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
Queiroz has been tasked with guiding Ghana to a stronger showing on the global stage following group-stage exits in both 2014 and 2022.
He is expected to submit his final 26-man squad for the expanded 48-team tournament by June 1
