Former Ghana Football Association vice-president George Afriyie has dismissed speculation linking him with the chief executive role at Asante Kotoko.

Reports have circulated suggesting the experienced football administrator is in line to take over as CEO of the Ghana Premier League giants ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The rumours gained momentum amid expectations that the club’s current Interim Management Committee (IMC), headed by Nana Apinkrah Akwasi Awuah, will be dissolved at the close of the 2025/26 season to pave the way for the appointment of a substantive board and new leadership.

But Afriyie has firmly distanced himself from the claims.

“No doubt, Asante Kotoko is a big club with a rich history, but at the moment, I am not in the race to become the new CEO of the club,” Mr Afriyie said.

He acknowledged that there may have been informal discussions in some circles but stressed that no official approach has been made.

“Perhaps there have been conversations around some quarters, but as it stands, no one has spoken to me to become the Chief Executive Officer of the club. I have friends there, but nothing has been discussed,” he added.

Afriyie remains one of Ghana’s most recognisable football administrators. Over the years, he has held several key roles within the local game, including a stint with Swedru All Blacks and serving as Chairman of the Management Committee of the senior national team, the Ghana national football team.
