Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President George Afriyie has expressed optimism that the Black Stars’ upcoming high-profile friendly matches will strengthen the team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As part of their preparations, the four-time African champions are scheduled to face Germany in an international friendly in Stuttgart on March 30, 2026.

GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum also confirmed that the squad will participate in other high-profile friendlies prior to the tournament, which kicks off in June.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Afriyie described the approach as “the right strategy” to ensure the team is fully prepared for the global stage, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

“Playing high-profile friendly games is the right approach ahead of the World Cup,” he said.

The Black Stars, making their fifth World Cup appearance, have been drawn into Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Ghana will open its campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England on June 23 in Boston, and conclude the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After early exits in the 2014 Brazil and 2022 Qatar tournaments, the Black Stars will be aiming for a deeper run in the expanded 2026 World Cup finals.
