The Director of Marketing at the Ghana Football Association, Jamil Maraby, has expressed strong belief that the Ghana national football team will finally reclaim continental glory at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.
Ghana national football team, four-time African champions, have endured a prolonged title drought since their last triumph in 1982, falling short in finals appearances in 1992, 2010, and 2015.
In remarks published on the GFA’s official website, Maraby backed the current generation to rewrite that narrative, citing their growing experience and cohesion.
“I am very confident and feel Ghana will win the next AFCON,” he declared.
Maraby highlighted the stability within the squad as a major factor behind his optimism, noting that a large portion of the team has remained together over several years, gaining exposure at both continental and global levels.
“About 60 to 70 per cent of the squad remains intact. Many have played in two World Cups, and some have featured in three AFCON tournaments. By 2027, they will be at their peak—around 27 to 28 years. It’s a natural cycle.”
He also placed Ghana’s ambitions within the shifting dynamics of African football, suggesting that the dominance of recent champions could soon give way to a new era.
“Ivory Coast had their chance and took it. Senegal are at the top now, but cycles change, and Ghana will rise again.”
Before their 2027 AFCON campaign, the Black Stars are set to compete at the FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The 2027 AFCON tournament will be co-hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya.
