The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has reiterated his resolve to pursue his Right to Information (RTI) request from the Ghana Maritime Authority through formal legal and institutional processes.
Mr. Awuku explained that although he initially filed an RTI application and later withdrew it, he subsequently submitted a fresh request seeking specific details.
He expressed concern that the withdrawal letter had been publicized in a manner that distorts the sequence and intent of his actions.
In a Facebook post responding to the Authority’s recent press statement, the lawmaker argued that the GMA failed to adequately address the eleven questions contained in his latest RTI request.
He stressed that he expects a comprehensive and formal response that directly tackles the issues raised and provides the public with all relevant facts.
“For clarity, I initially submitted an RTI application which I later withdrew. I then filed a new request seeking specific information. It is therefore concerning that the withdrawal letter has been publicized in a way that misrepresents the sequence and intent of my actions,” he stated.
He added, “After reviewing the Authority’s statement, I must state that it does not adequately address the eleven (11) questions raised in my RTI request. I expect this response to fully address the issues raised and present all relevant facts to the public.”
Mr. Awuku reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the matter through the appropriate legal and institutional channels, insisting that due process will be followed to ensure accountability.
