The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 32-year-old man, identified as Akoto Nelson, for allegedly posing as a police officer during Shatta Wale’s concert at the Black Star Square in Accra.

According to the Police, Nelson was apprehended by officers from the National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit on Sunday, October 19, 2025, after being spotted in a police uniform with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and behaving suspiciously.

Upon interrogation, the suspect admitted that he was not a police officer. Investigations revealed that he impersonated an officer to gain free entry to the event, claiming he could not afford the gate fee.

Nelson further disclosed that the uniform belonged to a deceased Chief Inspector named Gyasi, from whom he obtained the police attire in 2022.

A search conducted at his residence in Taifa-Ashaiman uncovered several items, including a toy pistol, pepper spray, two mobile phones, a cutter knife, voter ID, birth certificate, and other personal effects, which were retrieved as exhibits.

Preliminary findings indicate that Nelson works as a security guard and messenger at a private company.

He is currently in police custody and is expected to be arraigned in court soon.
