2026 U-20 WWCQ: Mercy Attobrah brace powers Black Princesses past Tunisia

Mercy Attobrah announced her arrival in style with a brace as Ghana’s Black Princesses secured a commanding 2-0 away win over Tunisia in the first leg of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers on Saturday, September 20.

The Al Ahly striker, who only linked up with the squad in Tunisia, was handed a starting role by head coach Charles Sampson.

Leading the attack alongside Linda Owusu Ansah and Zeinab Haruna, Attobrah wasted no time in making her presence felt, breaking the deadlock inside five minutes to hand Ghana the lead.

Despite creating several chances, the Black Princesses were unable to extend their advantage before halftime, with poor finishing keeping the margin narrow at the break.

Attobrah, however, doubled her tally after the restart, unleashing a superb strike from 20 yards that left the Tunisian goalkeeper helpless.

Ghana nearly added a third when Sarah Nayrko went close from close range, but her effort drifted wide.

In the end, Attobrah’s double proved decisive, sealing an important first-leg victory ahead of the return fixture in Accra on Sunday, September 28.

The Black Princesses, who are seeking an eighth consecutive U-20 Women’s World Cup appearance since their maiden qualification in 2010, will look to finish the job at home.
