Mahama vows to upgrade nursing and midwifery training colleges

-

President John Mahama has unveiled plans to upgrade selected nursing and midwifery colleges across the country into degree-awarding institutions.

Addressing supporters during his Thank You tour in the Ahafo Region, Mr. Mahama said the initiative forms part of a broader vision to improve tertiary education and strengthen healthcare delivery in Ghana.

“We will upgrade selected nursing and midwifery colleges across the region into degree-awarding institutions. And we will continue the distribution of buses to SHSs and health training institutions to help academic operations,” he stated.

The former president expressed confidence that the transformation would improve the quality of nursing and midwifery education, while contributing significantly to the development of the healthcare sector.

He also reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s commitment to closing the education gap, particularly in underserved areas.

“We remain committed to expanding tertiary education, especially in underserved regions. In line with this, the NDC government will establish a university in the Ahafo Region to offer world-class programmes in agriculture, natural resources, and health sciences,” he announced.

Mr. Mahama further assured that logistical support for educational institutions would be sustained. He highlighted the continued distribution of buses to senior high schools and health training colleges as part of efforts to ease transportation challenges and improve teaching and learning conditions nationwide.
